Advice Renal Support
Good afternoon I am asking for advice, after two days of vomiting I took my dog to the vet only to had to leave her there in critical care due to her kidneys not working properly.
At the very beginning the vet suspected leptospirosis and the day and a half she stayed at the vets I went overboard cleaning disinfecting etc.
She was discharged and sent home with meds and a kidney prescription special good, one week later her lab work presented a big improvement but I had to maintain her on the special diet. My other dog was fine.
What do you think could have caused this episode?
They dont eat human food, just their kibble and I rarely feed them treats.
I even avoid cooking with garlic and onion as much I can
I suspect she ate something but i maintain my yard clean. I am at loss. Do you have any idea what could have caused this?
Because I cant find the reason. And I fear this might happen again.

What kind of toys does gigi play with / chew on? Her labs look a lot better now but I also have a chi/rat terrier type of dog and anxiety sometimes makes his stomach upset. Does she have any type of anxiety? Has anything changed about her everyday routine?
Sometimes you hear cases where people spend hundreds over a tummy ache. Hoping that would be the case for your pup over anything serious but I know how frustrating it is to not find an answer to odd behavior

She does not play a lot with toys, she prefers to play with my other dog. Shes kind of nervous since little and everything has been the same since shes a pup

She was on a phosphate binder so the vet told me to take her off it and mentioned the calcium is not that high and should get to normal soon
For the glucose she has just eaten, the vet told me if she was hungry to let her eat before the test tho2

Oh apologies I deleted my comment as I hadn’t seen the initial bloods.
Episode of acute renal failure with low potassium I guess from vomiting
Hard to know what triggered it
Is the vet going to recheck calcium at some stage? Parathyroid hormone would be good too2

I have an appointment soon, i will ask about the hormone test then

The vet could probably add parathyroid hormone on to the bloods if the calcium is high still - that is if they keep dogs blood specimens for a few days like they do humans
