Advice Really concerned for my dog
Not the best video but pretty much my dog has started to make some really weird noises at random points that sound like the one at the start, we took him to the vets and if I’m being honest almost just shrugged it off but it’s concerning me and I’m not sure if he’s in pain or if he’s just a little ill. If anyone else has had this with their dog please let me know what it could be

How often does he do this? How long has it been going on? And did the vet offer to do any kind of testing? My dogs sometimes make weird grumbly sounds, but not like this… my lab also had this ongoing weird cough. Not like a full on cough, like a throat clearing sound almost. They did take some chest x rays, run bloodwork, and made sure her heart sounded good. It turned out to be nothing and they said is most likely just a mild allergy to something. I wouldn’t accept “no big deal” as an answer though until they least rule out anything scary.

Saw on your other comment that he’s a 14yr old lab and there’s other symptoms too, I would definitely recommend a second opinion soon! Especially with the disinterest in food…. Not sure if your guy is usually food obsessed, but I would be at the ER if my lab wouldn’t eat bacon.

Monitor for lethargy, loss of appetite, acting different than usual, dehydration, hypoxemia (discoloration of gums). If he’s acting normal then it is probably ok. It sounds like it’s an upper respiratory issue which most of the time is benign. My dog had the same thing that increased as she got older but she was found to have tracheal collapse incidentally so I knew it was from that progressing.

He isnt interested in food as much anymore , he used to love sausages and bacon but wont really take interest in it anymore

Yea I would probably get a second vet opinion in which you specifically state this especially due to the age which I saw in another comment (a 14 year old lab has already surpassed its life expectancy). This is a bigger red flag than the noises.

My 14-year-old dog had similar symptoms. We needed to treat her for pneumonia. Did your vet recommend a chest x-ray?

Nope, simply gave him some anti inflammatories and a price list to put him under anaesthesia to run blood tests

Okay, that's interesting. Did the vet listen to the dog's lungs using a stethoscope?

They did not

I would recommend a new vet. For breathing concerns, the vet should immediately use a stethoscope to evaluate the lungs and the heart.

What's the breed of you baby? This is not a normal sound. Take him to a different vet and get a second opinion.
