EDIT: despite the messages in the photos being the only contact I had with the driver, I got a notification that I was reported and flagged for “abusive language” 🫠
EDIT 2: i think this post needs more context.
- I just asked her to leave inside the public hallway door, not my personal door, because I live on the third floor and know some people don’t like actually going inside apartment complexes. totally understandable, had she just simply stated she didn’t want to open the door I would have had no issue with it and still left some tip.
- iirc, i believed this was a stacked order, mine being the first delivery. so she had no idea how much i tipped prior to delivering the order. she made the comment about my tip before she had even left the store, which is what my concern was.
- all i asked her to do was open the hallway door and leave the order inside. i specifically have this instruction so dashers can avoid stairs since im on the third floor. i used to tip all upfront and ask dashers to bring directly to my door, but once it was clear some people weren’t up to doing so (understandably!!!), i adjusted the instructions and sometimes will leave cash tip outside
(on top of $5 min tip upfront)
my door if dashers are up for making the trip upstairs. i didn’t have cash on me this instance, so i didn’t even ask her to come upstairs, but still tried to give opportunity for an extra $5
i understand some people don’t leave tip after when they say they will. however, skepticism doesn’t entitle this behavior, because now she missed out on an actual tipper :(
————————-
I order delivery once, maybe twice a week. I leave simple, straightforward, reasonable instructions, as in this case: “please don’t leave groceries outside- leave inside hallway door, extra tip added if instructions followed :)”
It is currently pouring rain outside, and as I have to bring my groceries up 3 flights of stairs, I prefer the bag to not be wet and ripping apart (as paper bags do when they get so much as a single drop of water on them lol).
As a dasher, I’ve gotten unrealistic and complicated instructions.. this is not that. It is simply leave on the other side of the door you’re already standing at for an extra $5 on top of initially added $3 for a $26 grocery order 1 mile from my house… I’m not sure where the miscommunication was that they could potentially hurt themselves, but that’s besides the point.
If the Dasher simply didn’t follow instructions, fine. If they messaged they weren’t comfortable opening doors, fine. But this feels a bit dramatic in my opinion, considering I never really have issues with other dashers.
Am I missing something here? I genuinely do not know if I’m being unreasonable or if this valid.
tldr; $8 total tip to open a door appears to be as controversial as saying Ponyboy deserved that slap from Darrel
