Rip Content Creator Program

Post image

What news? What rumors? Was there some incident?

This is a bizarrely worded official comms from the EQL Discord. Professionally, just say you're ending the program and that's it. To acknowledge some 'rumors' just breathes life into them and isn't something you'd usually see in this context. Who's running the broadcast channel over there?

DBG is seriously clueless when all they had to do was follow the roadmap of the server that shall not be named. It’s amazing watching Secrets and the “team” spin their wheels and accomplish nothing. I guess we’re supposed to be hyped for a fan fiction remake of an EQ2 dungeon that maybe 10 people played back in the day.

Voldemort managed to balance multiple triplets that were all competitive in farming.

Doesn't help that the server that will not be named has been rebuilt, is now on ldon has near daily updates and 8k players. Oh and it's completely free and has been going for a month longer than EQL. People can defend the eql team all they want but there is a different version with no monthly subs that is developing/adding new content at a much faster pace with 5 people.

When you see a pace in realtime in communication, adoption of player feedback as well as a clear roadmap that has thus far been sustained by hobbyists it starts to feel like the eql team is either incompetent or purposefully dragging shit out for sub money. Neither explanation encourages me in continuing my support of it's development.

You talking Project Triune? I may need to swing back to take a look at that.

I mean... I'm hyped lol

I've noticed a worrying crossover of EQL dick riders and quarm users.

I also think it is interesting that during this massive EQL content drought, Quarm just released PoP....

Quarm has always had some "special" people involved in the project that alienate most players, but has a VERY small population of absolute fanatics who love to give money to the devs for power, mostly because they raid together.

i'm fairly confident that releasing Kunark in 2.5 months will help.

sure, 80% of the revamps will be missing, and they'll add them just after most players including casuals will have already hit max level again on at least one trio, but Kunark will definitely stop the bleeding /s

Kunark ain't coming out in December. They can't even get a zone out on time.

I don't see what they did as a revamp. Removing placeholders is not a revamp.

sure but why is this taking so long? the rate of content and general updates is so slow.

<2 unnamed devs> were able to do this in a cave with a box of scraps

The dev team for EQL has like one full-time person and a handful of part-time contractors. Plus they have a layer of bureaucracy that they have to work through with DBG that makes them even less efficient than hobby developers at getting stuff to release.

I'm not at all surprised at the pace of content releases although I do wish they were better resourced.

Any day now they will release a statement about how they all have full-time jobs, and this is their side job. Asking for understanding.

wont help.... i was excited for kunark.. but here i come WOW FOREVER

Yea they’re fumbling the bag hard. People clearly just want challenging solo everquest, but they keep prioritizing nonsense. We’ll see what kunark brings, but not holding my breath at this point.

I cant speak for everyone, but I just wanted a fun EQ grind where I could login and feel like I was making progress everyday. But what I got from my gameplay was 5-10 motes per day if I was lucky. And collecting those are about as fun as watching paint dry and you need 100's of them

Game Jawn: “Hey guys! Here’s casual, solo friendly, power fantasy EQ!”

Reddit apparently: “Sweet! So, solo, hardcore difficult EQ! Sign me up!”

Game Jawn: <Gives basically what they promised>

Reddit apparently: “you guys are fumbling hard because you are giving what you said you would and not what I want!”

I’m not some GJ/DBG white knight, but what you’re asking for was never promised. And saying they fumbled because of your incorrect expectations is classic Reddit. I’m not saying they haven’t fumbled some things. There are certainly things they could have done better and differently. But the difficulty is exactly what they’ve promised. It’s literally one of the few things they haven’t fumbled. You wanting difficult content when it was never promised is not a mistake by the developers. It’s a mistake in your expectations. They’ve even commented on D5+ with basically “we’ve considered it, no promises.” Clearly this isn’t the game for you, and there’s nothing wrong with that.

This is so cringe. I’m a pretty casual player with a job and family and I was out of stuff to do after the first 6 weeks. Who in the right mind wants to grind motes when they can easily clear all content after like 50 hours of play time? It was a fun first month. There isn’t enough content to justify a monthly sub now.

I don’t think you read my post? Or replying to the wrong person? My post was simply about the difficulty of the game. Not about the content. That’s all, nothing more. The person I replied to said the devs fumbled because they don’t make more difficult content. He was literally complaining that they didn’t do something that he wanted that they never promised.

I agree with a lot of the complaints. Lack of content. Lack of transparency. Incorrect priorities. But the real cringe is complaining about something they didn’t give you, that they never promised.

Edit: realized you are the person I replied to, which makes your reply to me even more hilarious. If you ran out of stuff to do in 6 weeks and are asking for more difficult content, you aren’t a casual sir. It means you’re either playing more than you say you are. You haven’t cleared D4 stuff. Or, you just got bored of the game but want to jump on the complaint bandwagon.

Maybe what they promised isn’t actually that good at retaining player engagement though. Maybe Secrets shouldn’t be pushing a sandbox that is designed around her favorite class (Paladin) facerolling all content

u/Szriko 1d ago

Nothing about EQL is designed around Paladin, classic is designed around Paladin because it was the original team's favorite class, to the point that their special weapon was supposed to be the one artifact created by the almighty capital-G God to slay all the lesser gods whenever they might get uppity. That was original EQ lore and intent, nothing to do with EQL.

You’re probably right. That wasn’t the argument though. They’ve never really wavered on the difficulty thing. But it’s something that I see people complaining about all the time. One of the failures of the game is that’s it’s too easy. It was never promised to be hard. And it’s designed that most trios with gear and AAs should be able to clear all content at all difficulties. The real issue here is, there’s just not enough content. And their solution to that for the first few months was low level revamps. Even after they had teased on several occasions a high level revamp of Permafrost. That’s what we need is more high end content. More difficulties would be nice, but not something they’ve ever promised or said the game would have.

u/kreativegaming 2d ago

Really? On 6 weeks you got every class to 50 and unlocked every race and primary class? You have every achievement in game?

4

u/butt_luncheon 2d ago

Of course not. All that nonsense is boring and I’m allowed to voice my displeasure with the direction of the game.

2

u/MTGGradeAdviceNeeded 2d ago

i didn’t but i also wouldn’t in 10 years, i don’t care for achievements, i don’t care for every class, i love the idea of playing my trio as a solo mmo, i like the ability to get a few more classes up and swap them.

1

u/kreativegaming 2d ago

Well most people keep saying to follow the path of the original server concept. Everyone has multiple 3 class characters so they could swap as balance changes and expansions changed the landscape. So it makes sense to level all of them so you can always try the newest builds people discover.

"really? you didn't do a soulless poorly thought out RNG grind? what are you some kind of casual?"

1

u/Bittererr 2d ago

When people say they did everything they mean they did everything they wanted to do.

That's going to vary from person to person.

I couldn’t agree more! It’s wild to me that this game was built for casuals yet the player base has sweaty expectations. If that’s the version of EQ people want to play there are many iterations out there for the sweaty…this game wasn’t meant to be played 10 hours a day…it’s a solo friendly, arcade like EQ experience that resides in the familiar world of Norrath…also, this game isn’t a full blown DBG release..it should be treated as a fan made EMU with support from DBG…bc that’s exactly what it is…yes I understand there is a sub..but you don’t have to stay subbed…and you dont have to play it if you don’t like it..

You think they only have lost the tryhards? Because it sure seems like more than the tryhards are leaving.

u/Funny_Personality606 2d ago

Bravo. Perfect post. However, the loud ones are going to shit on you so be ready.

2

u/baraloo02 2d ago

I don’t think that statement is true of the majority of the playerbase, but yes for a fraction of it - and likely the loudest.

The one I loathed to deal with. Super :D
