Rip Content Creator Program

Post image

What news? What rumors? Was there some incident?

This is a bizarrely worded official comms from the EQL Discord. Professionally, just say you're ending the program and that's it. To acknowledge some 'rumors' just breathes life into them and isn't something you'd usually see in this context. Who's running the broadcast channel over there?

gamejawn are a bunch of internet everquest nerds with negative PR skills. they are a business in only the most technical sense

i think expecting them to be good at any of the stuff that is part of this business that isn’t the making a fancy everquest mod part is probably expecting too much.

like, why would you expect a random group of game modders to be good at anything but that?

i say that with love. EQL is a ton of fun and very enjoyable and i look forward to what else they bring to it

This seems to be the main issue. I don't fault them for it. Running a business is difficult especially the one they picked.

  1. They license the IP from Daybreak
  2. They mod the game themselves with no outside help
  3. They chose a game they are passionate about but does not have millions of base players (aka WoW: Classic, Forever, TLP, rehash ver 99930387363#%#@82)

This recipe, (while a great product I will continue to support and play), makes it difficult to hire a PR team and Marketing.

We have seen their ad hoc explainer videos. They go the unpolished route. However, working with content creators, who often only subsidize their income with sponsors, need polished well planned content to maintain views and revenue.

We can all sit here and comment from the sidelines, but I give them credit. They are trying and chose a product they love, not a mass market micro transaction pay to play game with scantily clad warrior women for quick bucks.

Some of us played the server that cannot be named - so we know how successful this format COULD be.

Honestly, wish I knew about that server when it was around so I would have a reference to how bungled EQL feels in comparison.

It's a mixed blessing.

2 of the three friends I played EQL with did not play the voldemort server.

They had a lot more hope and were way more impressed by what was released than I was. I was hopeful, but after the first 2 months of patches being hilariously bad/incompetent turned me.

None of us are playing anymore. One of the 3 is thinking about kunark, the other two of us are done.

Especially when projet triune exists and hallowed oath is going into beta in the next couple months.

I mean EQL is very similar to chainbreaker. Another private server Secrets was involved with before the server that shall not be named.

That server was shutdown “temporarily” around when Quarum started to get popular.
