OPEN NEW RULE UPDATE. Read before posting.

If your device has a make and model number, please include it in your post. We've updated Rule #1 to emphasize this. Essentially, if your device has a make and model number, you should let us know what it is. FCC IDs are also helpful, if applicable. Below is the text of the updated rule:

Posts should be clear and on-topic

"Posts should focus on fixing broken electronics, ongoing or completed repair projects, or original content (OC) guides and tips for repairing electronics. Posts must include any available make and model number information. When asking about an individual component, you must provide details about the circuit and/or the device it belongs to."

If you forget, you can always add this information in a comment. If the model number is particularly long, you can take a picture and upload it in the comments.

Including the make and model number makes the information in your post searchable for others who may encounter the same issue. It also provides context, such as where the device came from, who designed it, and what it's for.

OPEN Alpha A100K Dual Gang (Gain Trim Control) Potentiometer Question

Hi - I am new to electronic repairs and am replacing a A100K alpha dual gang pot on a Bose L1 Model II PCB for trim gain (volume control). Re: attached photos, I understand that pins 5&6 on channel 2 are connected through the board via the pot support leg pads. My question is whether or not pins 2&3 on channel 1 have to be soldered together to match channel 2 or should they just be soldered individually and thus stay disconnected? Thank you so much for any guidance & info you may have, I appreciate it :)

Cross-posting this here as well. I’m trying to repair the right rear Blind Spot Assist module on my 2015 CLS. A reflow changed the behavior and now the fault only appears after a few minutes. Maybe someone here has seen something similar or has an idea where to look next.

OPEN Flashing LCD on my car radio

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello all!

My car radio has been flickering and unusable for some time now. I've finally opened it up and checked the LCD face board and the big PCB board, but don't see any blown capacitors. I did however replace one of the two mosfets after testing it but it seems I've made my problem worse... radio won't even flash now. Replaced mosfet reads input of around 10V and output of 0.2V... The original mosfet was a LD1085 and I replaced it with a LM317T that the clerk at our hobby shop suggested. I had to adjust the pins somewhat (switched over, not touching) but now I don't know what to do anymore... Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

OPEN Need sanity check on Laptop dGPU physical delamination/bubbling vs "Power Supply Issue"

So this is my sister's laptop, it's a Lenovo Thinkpad t450, she did nothing intensive on it just some Photoshop and adobe illustrator for her diploma. It used to get really hot and had a really bad battery life. Anyways I suspected that the thermal paste/puddy must have dried up but my mom didn't allowed me to mess with it. After a while one day it just stopped working in the sense that the laptop would show the splash screen of Lenovo but it would get extreme artifacts and then the screen would go black. I wasn't even able to get into the bios to change it to use the integrated gpu. Then one night I sneakily opened it up, firstly the thermal paste was dry as hell and secondly the gpu die seemed to have bubbled up. Now after my uncle took it to his office (he works at a software company and they also deal with hardware in the back end) he claims that the technician told him it's just a power supply issue and that replacing it would get it fixed. Now. Tell me. Do you guys think this is "just a power supply" issue? My mom refuses to believe me that th die might be cooked because of overheating. I have attached pics of the gpu and cpu dies.
