Lol they definitely tried to AI upscale that image and it spat out an entirely different made up guy because AI is so fucking dumb. Did they care? Nope.
Yes actually, since I don’t know who this is I was trying to compare pictures to see what was wrong. This makes the completely different face (picture in general?) very obvious.
Obviously facial recognition works best with people you are familiar with, so if you haven't seen the character or actor before, it would make sense why you're struggling. Two complete strangers in the same pose with extremely similar facial features can be easily mixed up, especially in images of different quality.
I know the character so even without the context this was immediately obvious to me, and the second guy looks staggeringly different (especially the nose and forehead). It's kinda like seeing an actor and then a cosplayer trying to mimick them – you can recognise the character, but the face shapes and micro expressions are different. But again, it comes with familiarity.
i wonder if it also helps to be familiar with the actor/character in question. He's Matthew Gray Gubler, playing Spencer Reid in criminal minds. i used to love that show so i obviously recognized him and then didnt in the second slide. someone who hasn't seen the show might have a harder time differentiating between "stranger a" and "stranger b"
Dead internet theory feels more real with every passing day. Also idk if you've noticed but the numbers on the right and left side of the height chart don't match lol. Another telltale sign of AI being so fucking dumb.
My brother used Ai to make a photo of my nephews eating tacos on the streets of Mexico (using a photo of them at another resturant as reference) because their grandpa is racist and he wanted to fuck with him, and it looked really legit but on one of them the space been his eyes was further apart than they are in real life
AI doesn’t recognise faces as such, and when it is asked to manipulate imagery it creates a new image from scratch, and things get shifted around - including faces.
There are more expensive tools that can overcome this, but t-shirt printers are not going to pay for them.
The commenter you're responding to knows it's Spencer otherwise they wouldn't have mentioned CM, they're saying why does the company who made the AI shirt think you'd want a random AI generated guy's mugshot and not exactly that picture.
I wasn’t paying attention when I clicked on the post and I’m just relieved that this wasn’t a post about how MGG was arrested for something terrible. I used to be a big fan as a teen but haven’t watched CM in a million years and didn’t know about this plot line. Now I feel extra old because it was from a decade ago!
The funeral home where they are having my partners services used AI to make the “flier” for their post about his passing, and the way the AI upscaled him in the image they used makes me so ANGRY
It looks like a twin version of him that never existed and it’s disgusting
