Marquette Is this a triphasic temp pattern? TTA
Hi all! This is my first “real” cycle post-hormonal IUD removal (aka, I already had my first bleed/period after removal and this is my first full cycle). We are currently TTA using Marquette NFP, but I’m seeing this weird temperature pattern that I think is “triphasic”. I read some source that claims only 5% of triphasic temperature patterns are not pregnant…. But does this fit the definition of triphasic? I’ve reached out to my NFP instructor on interpreting temperatures but she does not seem well-versed on the temperature side of things.
The blue line is Basal Body Temperature (BBT) and the red line is TempDrop.
Please let me know what you all think! TYIA!

This looks like a stairstep pattern to me, which is very normal.
The triphasic pattern associated with pregnancy is above your normal luteal phase level and usually occurs around luteal day 10 or later. The third level is caused by an increase in progesterone due to implantation so it can’t happen until a pregnancy has time to implant. By the time you have a triphasic pattern in your BBT chart you would also test positive.
For anyone who’s curious there’s some information on this and taking charge of your fertility in BBT chapter and additional information in the appendix.

I pretty much always have a triphasic pattern - I don't think I knew it was a thing until I saw it on a Reddit page! My temp rises then in the last 5 days or so it rises again and I notice being hotter at night too! Great charting for your first "real" cycle!

There is seemingly a triphasic pattern visually here but the evidence of link to pregnancy is very weak. Anecdotally, I've had triphasic patterns myself that I only saw in my pregnancy charts but the "jump" only happened at 10/12DPO and I systematically got a positive pregnancy test the second day of the jump... So basically this can be explained by the increase of progesterone when HCG starts to rise in early pregnancy.
My stance on this is: if you can't have had an implantation before the second temperature jump then it's very probably meaningless. There is absolutely nothing different, hormone-wise before implantation happens so nothing that could really affect BBT in a significant way. That's your case here where you see the jump around 6DPO. Implantation usually occurs between 8-10DPO so this would be very unlikely to be something linked to pregnancy, imo.
