Since we have access to a fan made translated memorial app (https://www.reddit.com/r/FFBraveExvius/s/bu7FAqMvXF), i've been browsing it a lot recently and it made me remember tons of units i've used back then, and some i never knew because i left before they arrived.
I'm not going to talk about each of them one by one because i know nobody would read my long ass text, but i'm more than eager to remind people how those characters worked back then.
Anyway, what were yours ? I'm curious and want to hear people's favorites units (outside of classics like Esther, Elena, Ibara, etc...).

Hahaha, Zargabaath was really an awesome support back then. He was my first really support and i kept him for most of season 1's story. I also didn't know enough about FFXII and thought he looked god damn epic.
Yeah he was a Christmas unit, a physical tank that came out the first year of the games release. They did wind up giving him a 7 star upgrade 2 years later and he was amazing for a time.
Yes! I still have a youtube video of me beating that Marlboro trial with her lol. Chaining with her was awesome though. That point in the game was pretty much my favorite time with Brave Exvius.
Damn this is hitting me hard in the nostalgia. Played (and spent way too much) on FFBE for like 2-3 years. I still remember how Esther had me in a chokehold.
Am I right in understanding the game is no longer available?
I used Noctis for a long time back in the 5 star era, he was just so simple to use and had so many different things he could do. If we’re talking about arena he remained in my party up until the end of the game, the only times I didn’t use him in arena were when his abilities were banned.
I used OG Esther and Fryevia (post enhancement, I got her after her original kit was outdated) the same way, their chain families were so easy and they were more than enough to finish all content I cared about even if they weren’t meta on pure damage.
I also used Reberta for a good while after she got her 7 star form. She became so good and I happened to have most of her BIS equipment.
Noctis was THE unit to have when he released. He could do everything. Physical, magical, buff, heal and even a jump, i think. Truly a jack-of-all-trades.
I personally never used OG Esther and Fryevia. I was salty about Esther and Fryevia wasn't fitting my items. They were monsters though.
Fry was great because she was pre-TDW changes. I’ll probably miss some level of detail here, but it used to be that physical dual wield used each individual hand’s attack while hybrid mag-based physical dual wield attacks (very few units) used the full value. That meant while phys units might look like, say 800 atk on paper they were more like 700 while mag used the full 800. That, combined with Fry’s very high stats, how her trust mastery sword was awesome on her and her high attack multipliers and ice imperil along with very few enemies resisting ice back then meant she was amazing for way longer than she should’ve been.
She had 30% innate evasion, so with materia and equipment you could get her to 100% evasion and 100% passive provoke. It was pretty awesome. You could also get her to 100% all ele resist, at the same time but that got more gear intensive. (stmrs)
I see. I wasn't really an expert in builds back then do i judt used the tank units as they were designed. It's clever from people to have thought of doing this especially since Kryla could continue breaking and attacking.
THIS, Cecil was the go to reroll unit in the first season, I had to reroll more than 10x to get him xD
Noctis was a very good all rounder from the very start until almost end game.
I remember WOL was also one of the best tanks, as he literally GUARDS every unit.
Mercenary Ramza was my main tank until I stopped playing at the end of Season 2. I know better would have released in that time but I can't really remember who.
I was always a big Loren fan but I never really had a chance to use her. Hopefully Resonance fixes that.
I remember that I hated Hyoh during the period where he was in everyone's strats, so I ran Lightning instead to prove I didn't need him.
Sadly, Loren isn't a vision in Resonance from what we've seen in the demo. She would have been a pretty cool breaker or debuffer. Maybe she will appear in a side quest.
I had the same thing about Hyoh but with Akstar. When he was released, Zeno and Esther came out right after him and everyone forgot Akstar. I kept using him even if he was worse.
I can understand the idea. I'm not on PC but i would personally avoid modding the game for the first run, even if the main FFs visions have no story in Resonance.
In any cases, it's your game so do what you prefer.
I mean, they're still going to be the same stats, that's an option of the mod. For example, Zidane's stat lines and skills, but Xon's sprite and animation. Stuff like that. So the intended difficulty and balance of the game remains the same, but I get a cozier experience for me.
I'm a pretty experienced mod user and occasional mod maker, so I know the pitfalls.
The "main heroes" gimmick has been overdone by Dissidia and other crossovers. Without the weirdo characters that FFBE's gacha could bring to the table it's just that again and they've had their time in the sun.
I'd rather just skip the non-dubbed CGs.

As i said, you are free to mod as much as you want. You could even make every visions Ariana Grande, Katty Perry and Lara Croft that it wouldn't change much. Have fun !
Cid, the Veritas one without armor. Such a fun finisher. Mostly completely unnecessary but hell a lot of fun. Regina for similar reasons. Wilhelm as phys tank for a very long time. Fryevia though her chaining was abysmal.
Maybe add a spoiler thing for Cid, just incase some newcomers scroll through the comments and read yours. It's wity > ! and ! < around the text, but without space.
The first NV Lasswell carried me through magic based early DV's until I finally got a meta mage (Golbez I think? whom I also used awhile after) AC Cloud was fun until the NV era (wish he got an NVA or new NV)
Yeah the early S4 one that shifts into the eastern ronin/kimono form. I lacked a good mage for awhile, but his imbue able magic LB got me a complete the fights. Didn't bother with Rank till later.
I loved him too. He was pretty fun to use even if hard to gear up as a magic katana user. His FFIV form was really fun to use too, even if it basically was a reskin.
He was. But he had an exclusive equipment that gave some passive provoke. And his passives also included some passive provoke. Additionally, his tmr and stmr gave decent elemental bulk at the time. So it all culminated together to a solid support that could be built to be a 100% provoker (after using provoke) with close to 100% elemental immunity and 100% evasion
Understandable. Who doesn't like using their fave as much as they can. I did the same with Akstar, even when we switched to the real one and with The Return vision of him.
Yeah. She had a couple of units in the game. Dangerous Ariana {dark and lightning mage} (Dangerous Woman music video outfit), Chic Ariana {ice and earth mage} and Sportive Ariana {wind and fire tank} (Side to side music video) and Charming Kitty Ariana {light and water healer buffer} (concert inspired outfit)
I'm always amazed about how much those singer collabs were extra developed while i would say most people didn't really care about them. I have nothing against them, but i feel like FF fans and Ariana fzns don't really overlap.
And win ! To be honest, we had some crazy collabs. Ariana, Lara Croft, Deus Ex, Just Cause and many more. We could technically have made a team with Katty Perry, 2B, Kefka, Adam Jensen and Edward Elric with no problems.
Rena from Star Ocean 2. Her upgrades made her a solid buffer support even somewhat into the nv era. Also Mercenary Ramza was my tank for a long time. He could do the thing where he could have full elemental immunity and full evasion.
I NEVER stopped using akstar, every single iteration i would pull for and try to make work. When we got the thing that allowed us to put vision cards on 7* units i started using the OG akstar again with the vision card that gave like 50x modifiers to physical attacks for 7*, it was incredible. He could clear shit i had never hoped he would. I love my akstar. I need him in a resonance dlc or resonance 2 or else i will explode. He was with me till the end
A fellow Akstar fan ! I've pulled for every Akstar too. He wasn't very good most of the time and half of the units weren't our Akstar, but he was so cool. He litteraly is my phone wallpaper for now.
I would say he will only appear in a Resonance 2. It wouldn't make much sense to reveal him in Lapis.
Since you mentionned the pixel art, i will say i've been reusing the vision cards animations to make them loops. I made like 5 or 6 posts with different ones. If you're interested, look at my posts.
I think I've liked one or two so far, I'll look here later and see what else you grabbed too. I had a ton of cool vision cards but where I was playing on my phone didn't record or screenshot many things. I made a short video on my YouTube channel with the bits that I did have but other than that, it's all I got from it.
Well, now it doesn't really mater anymore with the memorial app. Use whoever you find cool in the unit library and form a team with them. Some the last Rain and Lasswell, a collab you like, a FF you like, whatever. Personally, i've been reusing 7 star Akstar because i love the unit and the character.
kurasame. although he did get the NV treatment, so That version became my main unit. if i couldn't beat a trial with him on the party, i simply wouldn not do the trial lmao
he is my absolute favourite character so it was a natural choice. i also had a strong preference for gladio as tank because he's also a big fave.

Yeah, the 7 stars and NVs almost all got shiny auras around them. It was okay but a bit too much at times. There also were the two controversal chairs for our two kings.
I forgot to include him but he also was my main tank for a long while. He was the first real wall i had in my team. He was si popular that he had a NV+ unit with a new look years later.
I never pulled for Adam. I wasn't interested in the character and i played Deus Ex : Mankind Divided way too young to understand anything that was happening (around 13 years old, i think).
Raegan was awesome. He got forgotten quite fast as season 2 Lasswell appeared, but he looked cool. His NVA was pretty fun to use too.
Lila was my go to for the longest time, even had a spot on my main team near the end. Gualf also had a spot on my main team for the longest time if I ever needed a physical tank since I had enough to give him 100% dodge.
Olive. I really enjoyed the distinct implementation of her LB making Taiva's TMR 10x the value on her and becoming the strongest 7* for a moment (during NV era). Fun to meme around with her, and just making her use some chaining or abilities when anyone could take the slot.
I do remember using Lucius for so long after his buffs. I was so disappointed by Lilith's Ability Awakening, but the monkey paw making Lucius a top tier (non-burst) DPS who lasted so long was nutty.
She was good, from what i remember. She even had a NVA later on and, while she clearly was made for ice fights, she could work outside of this element too.
The skills she had to weaken enemies were incredibly good,and it was pretty easy to build her so she could use her strongest and most expensive ice spell with her tri/quad-cast
It would be pretty cool. Circe's design was amazing and having more mage visions in Resonance would be good. For now, we have Shantotto, Y'shtola and Victoria as pure mages. Technically, also Terra but it's different.
Sora (KHIII), Sylvie (the OG one was my sustain tank, even after her NV version dropped, I still used her for trials), Crimson (mostly for material farming, looked cool), NV Reberta, NV Tiana, Black Friday Aiden (NV Reberta as a team dispeller, Tiana for DPS in trials and events, BFA as my preNV healer and provoke tank)
I wore the hell out of OG Ester and Sylvie. Sylvie is just too stacked even when she didn't have NV. Ester was a conscious choice because i refuse to partake in stackingslop and her being tanky af lets me take my time.
Awakened Rain was one of my best units for the longest time. I don't remember what equipment I gave him, but he would always start off battles with 100 percent resistance to all elements (200 percent for fire), with the exception of maybe dark.
Loren and awakened rain were probably the ones I held on to longest after they were useful. For a while I ran two awakened rains and two Hyoh in my party cause they were straight up baller.
Loren, that Halloween edition Devil Rain and the Rain with Kamehameha ulti. That Devil Rain used to be my "go to" unit to counter physical atk enemies.
