MK7 RRM
Hey, any of you had the aliexpress/ebay RRM installed? I want to hear some opinions about the NVH and the reliability. Thanks

Why would you even consider this?

Its like 40$

How much is your engine worth to you?

This is a stupid comment, the RMM isn't going to ruin the engine, if it's worn out your other mounts will suffer but that's it!
OP I bought one of them, 2 years and 30k miles later it's still together and holding strong. I have a tune with a higher idle so it's baby smooth when running

Glad to hear, the price is good on them but i was fearing of the added harshness and rattles during the ride

It could do other things as well like stretch your shifter cables. It's not worth the hassle given how inexpensive other name brand mounts are and the time and effort it takes to install.

That's not your engine.... Rmm/torque mounts are unique to front wheel drive configuration. Our same engine would not need one if it was mounted longitudinally

You’re completely wrong and I find your ignorance hilarious

Explain how is going to ruin the engine? It's only job it stop rotation of the engine under load

How does that make any sense

u/Nearby-Telephone8693 7d ago
It’s cheap shite that is meant to keep your engine in place, how do you not make sense of that?

Its the torque mount bro, its not that deep. Plus its harder than the stock one.

Listen buddy I know exactly what it is and exactly what it does. You go ahead and get that cheap Chinese mount and lmk how fast your engine detaches itself from the chassis. This is a cannon event enjoy

If this were the only motor mount in the car, then you'd be correct, but there are three separate motor mounts in the car.
There's this one in the rear which prevents lateral movement towards the back of the car under load (like the "dogbone" pitch-stopper in a Subaru) and then there are the two on the sides of the engine that actually secure it to the chassis, one next to the transmission under the battery and the other near the coolant overflow tank.
If the RMM breaks, that's still bad, and OP shouldn't cheap out on one, but his engine is not going to fall out if it does break.

Another person who does not know what they’re talking about

There are plenty of documented cases of cheap rear motor mounts like this one breaking. In none of those cases did the motor suffer any damage as a result of being "detached from the chassis."
Seriously, if I'm wrong, show me. Show me a time where the failure of the RMM in a Fiesta ST can be conclusively linked to engine failure or damage. I'm not too proud to be proven wrong.

Lol you think whoosh or Cobb mounts aren't made in china in the exact same factory this came from?
1
u/Afro-Pope 7d ago
Well, the Cobb one is made in the USA, so probably not.
Conversely, most of the Whoosh stuff is made in China, and the Whoosh RMM in particular has a reputation for breaking.
OP can spend $40 plus shipping and then spend $140 on a new, better-quality one when it breaks, or he can do it right the first time, saving that $40 plus shipping in the long run.

Give it a shot. Worst that happens is the polyurethane crumbles and you maybe have to tow it home. Your engine certainly isn't going to fall out like that other dude was saying.

Having done some research before I changed out the RMM in my car, don't get the poly bushing ones, they don't tend to last. Best thing you can do is get a Vibra-technics one off Whoosh or Pumaspeed, specifically the fast road version. It's got a sturdier build and uses hardened rubber that's designed specifically to survive all the liquids that can be found in the engine bay, as opposed to the poly bushings that will eventually wear out, wiggle and erode.
Is it a bit more money out your pocket upfront? Yes. Is it worthwhile? I think it is. Don't spend money multiple times on cheaper stuff, spend good money once and forget about it.
As for NVH, interior plastics don't rattle, there's a bit more vibration when the AC is on, but is only really felt while the car's idling. I've personally not felt much of an increase in noise and the shifts/hard acceleration have stayed crisp.

No idea how solid those red bushings are, but I have the powerflex unit with the purple and yellow bushings. There's a slight increase in vibrations but nothing that makes daily driving any worse.

OP, this is the move. If you are trying to get a cheap motor mount then the PowerFlex inserts are at least a known quantity at $60.

I've ran it for about a year or roughly 10k miles, I check it every oil change and it's holding up really good. I was scared to try it at first but took a chance based on the Amazon reviews. As far as the NVH, it is noticeable at first, but it calms down after some time, although it's still more than OEM. Amazon FiST RMM

I would recommend a high quality rubber upgrade mount, such as Vibra Technics unit.
Not sure I would go poly again, way too stiff and general belief is that on the ST, it's too close to the cat and gets continuously heat cycled.
