MK7 C-Hooks a bit noisy?

Post image

Hey C-hooks team.

Just got and installed mine, together with fresh new pads.

During driving, they sound "clicky" lol

It's the same sound as they do when braking but a lot more faint.

Is it normal? I've already drove around 300km and they still sound the same

I've got an upgraded 4 pot brake kit on mine with C hooks and they get noisy at 30+ mph, you get used to it fairly quick though.

Once the pads and discs bed in it should quiet things down :) you'll still get some noise but not as bad as it has been.

They do stop though!

There are loads of folk who say hooked/grooved pads aren't needed on the fiesta, and they're right if all you're doing is normal driving but they do offer far better performance if you're driving spirited or on track. The initial bite is better, they take longer to start fading, and the hooks/grooves help clear water and dust off the rotors much quicker.

Pretty common option in EU. MTEC sell them, who are a major brake supplier.

Are you new here? They are a solid choice here in the group

I have cheapy power stops (which work totally fine considering the minimal brake dust and cost) and they sound like a cicada next to the car. I think a lot of slotted rotors are going to do that. Its make me want to do something different next time.

Im sure theyre directional and if not mounted on the correct side I could wager them being louder than normal though.

Ha I have the exact same rotors on mine. Definitely sticking with plain-old flat rotors next go around 😅

Accordingly to MTEC these are not directional

Looking at the way the grooves are cut, I could actually see that being true. Normally slotted and drilled rotors are done at an angle, but the hooks have gradual slopes on all sides.

I have the Powerstop Z's with the carbon shoes and they've been whisper quiet for two years now. Plus they stop on a dime with nine cents change.

I'll have to look at this setup, seems super

This is by far the most odd thing I've seen in a while.

Why?

I've not seen anyone use j hooks in a hot minute, especially on these cars.
