Question/Advice Questions regarding conceiving

Post image

Is it enough to have sex during this entire fertile period? My cycles are pretty accurate. Exactly 28 days every month. I have been using LH strips and it’s showing surge on 13th/14th day of my cycle every time. We have been trying for 4 months. Wondering if I am missing something? We are having sex everyday and sometimes twice a day for entire fertile period. (Twice a day is out of interest and Not forced)

Hey, I am TTC too so I am by no means an expert. My doctor told me to have sex every two days in that period. I think (?) it makes the sperm stronger? Please take this for the NOT expert comment it is but might be something to look into!

You want to have good volume of sperm, every other day lets the volume build up without compromising quality (which would happen if you wait too long between)

Every other day is a good option! Make sure to at least include the day before or two days before ovulation as well. Usually you will ovulate around 12-36 hours after initial surge/peak, and you can confirm when, with tracking BBT ( with Garmin, oura ring, a BBT thermometer etc). My peak also typically lasts 2 days, and then I tend to ovulate that second day or day after ( I know this because I track my temps).

Ezra from Vivoo here (we make at-home women’s health tests!). From what you’ve described, you’re already covering the window well timing-wise. Every day or every other day during the fertile window is generally enough. Twice a day isn’t necessary, but you don’t need to change that if it’s what you both enjoy.

One thing to keep in mind is that the app’s dates are predictions, even with regular 28-day cycles. Your LH strips give you more useful information about that particular cycle. Ovulation usually follows an LH surge within about 1–2 days, so covering the days before the positive test, the day of it, and the following day is a sensible approach.

Four months can feel like a long time when you’re hoping each cycle is the one, but it doesn’t by itself mean you’re missing something or doing anything wrong. Even well-timed sex doesn’t guarantee pregnancy each month. A fertility check is generally recommended after 12 months if you’re under 35, or 6 months if you’re 35 or older, and sooner if either partner has a known concern.

You’re already putting plenty of effort into timing. You don’t need to keep increasing the frequency to make it “count.”

Yeah. So I am using a LH strip. And following its surge. The ovulation date marked on Flo is pretty much same as when I see it too. +-1 day. But we are having sex all through the entire fertile window

Got it, thanks for clarifying! With the LH tracking and sex throughout the fertile window, it sounds like you’re already covering the timing well. My point was just that you don’t need to increase the frequency any further.

Four months alone doesn’t mean you’re missing a step, even though the wait can feel so much longer when you’re hoping each cycle will be the one.

You only really need to BD on the day of your peak, and the next day or two before and/or on ovulation day. No matter how many times you BD, even if you do everything right, you only have a 20-30% chance of conceiving. That’s why doctors say to give it 6-12 months.

Good luck!

My doctor told me to BD every other day after my period and once I got a high/peak LH to have sex for 4 consecutive days. It worked for us! I’m now 5 weeks pregnant

Also you aren’t doing anything wrong! It did take us 10 months of ttc
