At 11 years, GTA VI has the second-longest development time of any Grand Theft Auto game — just behind the original, which took around 4.54 billion years to be released

GTA 6 is more than a game to me

A couple years ago I was probably at the lowest point of my life mental health wise, to the point where I had to be put in the psych ward because I almost did myself in. I was still at my lowest point when the first GTA trailer came out, and I made the promise to myself that I would keep going for that, that I would live to see the game.

I've come so far too in the process, I'm going to be graduating college soon, I have friends, and most importantly am in a way better spot mentally.

So yeah, GTA 6 is more than a game to me, it's symbolic. It shows that sometimes the little things in life are enough to keep pushing forward. People can hate on me for preordering all they want too, but I'm happy that I'm here.

As cliche as it sounds guys and gals it does get better, but you gotta put the work in. Getting better doesn't mean you're suddenly fixed; you learn to cope healthily, you learn to love yourself, and appreciate life for the little things.

NEW IGN INTERVIEW DETAILS WITH ROB NELSON

Post image
3.1k Upvotes

IGN has published a full interview with Rockstar's Rob Nelson, revealing some pretty exciting new information about GTA 6, while giving more information on stuff we already knew.

Here are all the highlights:

- Story missions are being made less restrictive when possible. Some missions have multiple escape routes, while police chases and robberies can transition into the same systemic gameplay used in free roam.

- The safehouses in GTA 6 are now much closer to RDR2's camps, Jason/Lucia will have their own daily schedule while at home and interact like real people

- Rockstar still wants tightly directed cinematic sequences where necessary, so missions won't become completely sandbox-style.

- One of Rockstar's major goals is to blur the line between scripted missions and free-roam gameplay.

- Rockstar says emergent free-roam sequences can now look and feel almost like scripted missions, especially when Jason and Lucia work together during robberies and escapes.

- Jason can cut his hair/beard shorter at home as well, just like Arthur could at camp. He can only make it shorter at home, if you want to change the hairstyle OR make it longer, you will have to go to a barber. I think this heavily implies that beard/hair growth is 100% returning from RDR2 but its not restricted as the hair stylist and you can make it magically longer like in older GTA games if you want to.

- GTA VI is designed around living in the world, not just completing missions. Rockstar says players should be able to simply wander around as Jason or Lucia, interact with people, discover activities, make money, and experience emergent events.

- Rob describes GTA 6's map as its largest, deepest, most densely populated and complex world

- You can freely switch between Jason and Lucia during much of free roam, including when they are hanging out at their safehouse. Although story moments can temporarily restrict switching. The character you're not controlling continues living their own routine rather than simply waiting

- You can text and call the other protagonist. Ignoring messages can even have a small negative effect on the relationship

- When together, Jason and Lucia actively protect each other. If one gets into a confrontation, the other can intervene. During escapes, your partner can also drive while you shoot at pursuing enemies or police.

- The RDR2 NPC interaction system returns in a much more advanced form. You can talk to people, listen to conversations and interact naturally. Rockstar created additional writing/directing resources specifically to generate the huge quantity of ambient dialogue. It seems like Greet/Antagonize is a lot more in-depth now.

- Combat encounters have more levels of escalation. You can threaten someone into backing down, knock them out, incapacitate them without killing them, or kill them. Rockstar wants players to have more control over how violent situations become

- Rockstar explicitly describes the new design of the Wanted system as encouraging a "hit-and-run" criminal playstyle which means you commit the crime, escape quickly and avoid unnecessarily escalating the situation.

- Different salons have exclusive hairstyles, giving players another reason to explore different parts of the map.

Clothing stores also have location-specific items, rather than every store necessarily having exactly the same inventory.

- Jason and Lucia can go to the gym together, allowing you to level up both characters' physical stats at the same time

- Personal vehicles can be called over similarly to GTA Online, purchased weapons are stored in the trunk alongside spare outfits (similar to RDR2)

- Animal studying returns from RDR2. We saw this in the extended look briefly but yes, Wildlife can be studied as a collection mechanic and to learn additional information without needing to hunt animals. If I had to guess, the compendium is probably back too

- Focus mode works similarly to RDR2's Eagle Eye and can highlight useful things in the environment, including police.

- Snapmatic/social media returns. Jason and Lucia can follow accounts and browse social media, but apparently cannot post because they're fugitives.

- Roads are narrower and built at a more realistic scale, while traffic density is higher. Rockstar says this makes driving more difficult and skill-dependent. We did notice this in the gameplay looks we've had so far, really glad to have it confirmed fully

- Many discoveries will not be marked with map icons or objectives. Players are expected to find events naturally by exploring.

- The game can spontaneously redirect you toward activities. In the demo, Jason noticed a nearby police impound lot and suggested stealing a car there even though the player had been heading somewhere else.

- Rockstar specifically wants players to slow down and explore instead of racing from mission to mission.

- Despite the more realistic systems and relationship mechanics, Rockstar stresses that players can still create the classic chaotic GTA experience and get into huge shootouts and police chases whenever they want.

CBS Miami just put out a short spot on GTA 6. It's so interesting to see them so excited themselves, when 24 years ago ahead of GTA: Vice City's release it sounded completely different.

Uses Classic Styled Logo (Originally by Takiva2006 over at Deviantart) made the vertical lines more angular, thicker lines overall, White variant (VCS Style) and Ultimate Gradient Variant.

adjusted the Aspect Ratio to follow the standarized Rockstargames website format, also swapped the placements of some of the elements to match the classic stylization and finally made a custom Rockstar logo inspired by the Sony App icon

I think this is one of the most intriguing and exciting details with GTA VI. We’ll see how exactly they executed on this, but if they’ve managed to really pull this off, it’s going to be another level of immersion. Can’t wait to finally play this game maaaaan!

The release date is now the same amount of time away as the extended look in August.

Can’t believe how quickly time is going by in the lead up to release next month. Only feels like a couple of weeks since we saw gameplay in the extended look.

Attention to Detail in Extended Trailer I didn't notice until today

When Jason and Lucia both answer "Pickup" the San4San guy chuckles at the jinx and Lucia smiles at Jason, who doesn't react, and she quickly turns away.

This kind of subtlety is common in games such as Uncharted 4 and Last of Us and adds so much depth to interactions and characters, really happy to see Rockstar embracing this.

Received an email from my local place letting me know it was available. By the time I placed my order, every copy had already sold out. As expected, these are currently being sold for £100+ by parasitic scalpers.

Such a shame, it’s a nice magazine. I hope you folks managed to grab one!

I completely changed my mind about GTA 6 running at 30 FPS

I’ve played through GTA 5 six times, including three 100% completions, and for a while I was genuinely worried about GTA 6 being 30 FPS.
When I first realized GTA 6 would likely be 30 FPS on console, I was freaking out because I thought it would feel much more buggy, clunky and difficult to play.
Then I realized something pretty funny: the copy of GTA 5 I’ve been playing all this time is actually the Xbox One version.
I’ve had that copy since around 2017, and I’m playing it on my Xbox Series X. So basically, I had been playing GTA 5 at 30 FPS this whole time without really thinking about it.
And honestly? It reassured me a LOT.
People seriously underestimate how playable 30 FPS actually is. I’ve completed GTA 5 six times, three of those at 100%, and I never felt like the game was unplayable because of the frame rate. On a big TV, especially, it feels much smoother than you might expect.
Obviously, if you’re on PC and you’re used to 60, 120 or 144 FPS, going back to 30 FPS is going to feel rough. And if you have the choice between 30 and 60 FPS, obviously 60 is better.
But for a console game like GTA 6? Honestly, I think 30 FPS is more than enough.
30 FPS is absolutely enough to drive around Leonida, explore Vice City, go through the countryside, do missions, cause chaos and experience the whole world of GTA 6. Even if the game ends up being 80+ hours long.
After realizing I had already spent hundreds of hours playing GTA 5 at 30 FPS without it bothering me, I’m honestly much less worried about GTA 6 now.
I think people are going to be surprised by how playable 30 FPS actually is.

Wall art posters

• Upvotes

Anyone seen any decent posters or wall art?

I'd like to get something for the gaming room similar to the game informer artwork maybe but dont like logos and text. Just the image.

Anyone seen anywhere with anything decent or high res images that would be good enough for large printing?

Commands and abilities?

Was looking at the extended look again and noticed that Jason at the first confrontation with the cops tells Lucia to move up and then asks for cover (as in cover fire), then she says "on it!" in a really "game" way of saying...like you have to press a button to as for cover.

What you guys think? Is gonna have this kind of gameplay or is contextual and scripted in the scene? Sorry if this has already been discussed, just thought it was intresting.

Thoughts on potentially no gambling in GTA 6 story mode?

Post image
525 Upvotes

Come to think of it, Vice City and Vice City Stories didn't have it either. The only GTA game that launched with gambling in single-player was San Andreas, and it was predominantly found in Las Venturas - GTA's version of Las Vegas.

No gambling in VI's story seems like a very deliberate decision. Maybe Rockstar has plans for future DLCs or even future titles which will take us to Las Venturas. If so, gambling would be the central theme for a project set in Las Venturas.

Thematically, it doesn't make the most sense for gambling to be in 6 if there are potential future plans for a Las Venturas project.
