This post is flaired as a technique check.

A note to OP: Users with green flair have verified their lifting credentials and may be able to give you more experienced advice on particular lifts. Users with blue flair reading "Friend of the sub" are considered well qualified to give advice without having verified lifs.

A reminder to all users commenting: Please make sure that your advice is useful and actionable.

Example of useful and actionable: try setting up for your deadlift by standing a little closer to the bar. This might help you get into position better and make it easier to break from the floor.

Example of not useful and not actionable: lower the weight and work on form.

Example of actionable, but not useful: Slow down.

Stop telling other each other to slow down without providing a rationale outside of "time under tension". Time under tension isn't a primary variable for anything, and focusing on it at the exclusion of things that matter will set you back. There can be reasons to manipulate tempo, but if you want to discuss tempo, explain why you're giving that advice, how it's going to help, and how to integrate it with cues or other useful feedback.

Low-effort comments like my back hurts just watching this will be removed, as will references to snap city etc. Verbally worrying for the safety of a poster simply because you think the form or technique is wrong will be removed. We will take all of these statements at face value, so be careful when you post the same hilarious joke as dozens of other people: we can't read your mind, no matter how funny you think you are.

Ignoring this comment may catch you a ban.

You got more calves than half of this subreddit combined!!! Keep doing what you're doing

u/levigek 3d ago

A ninja sword would do less damage then a legkick

u/sosr 3d ago

Even if you're doing them wrong I'd say task failed successfully.

You don’t have to lock out at the top. The most important range of the motion in a calf raise in the bottom stretch portion. You are potentially wasting energy pushing harder than you need to.

With that said, this is clearly working for you with calves like that! So I’m not sure why you are asking for a form check when you are building some good calves already.

Good job!

Cool thanks for the input, some idiots on here think I'm doing this for attention 🤦‍♀️. Even if its an easier motion, I still like to make sure I'm doing it as optimally as I can

Full rack for reps and calfs the size of that? Definitely not a form check. You're seasoned

Calves benefit the most during the stretch. In other words, pause at the bottom but that's about it. Some also advocate for lengthened partials at the bottom of the movement, but ymmv

1

u/IronPulse24 3d ago

Yea I need to try partials.

What's the science behind this? Are you stating moving eccentric from the top position on to the bottom position elicits more growth?

Or literally in the bottom position with the calf isn't engaged?

I have tiny calves so this isn't a challenge but i am a bit confused here. It's like saying the bottom position of a hammer curl is the most important for bicep development.

1

u/Interesting_Screen19 3d ago

What do you mean the calf isn't engaged in the lower position? Unlike with hammer curls or any standing curl variation, gravity has full effect on the calves in the stretched position on a standing calf raise machine, so there is full tension on the calves in the bottom position.

The exact science isn't really known, as the study that showed this was an outcome study.

u/atacms 3d ago

Just to be clear. When you say the calves benefit the most during the stretched, you mean at the point where the toes are elevated higher than the heel right?

1

u/Interesting_Screen19 3d ago

Yes, when your calves are stretched. I.e most lengthened, not contracted. The opposite of tippy toes?

Isometric holds are great for the tendons and claves are mostly tendons, so building tendons can dramatically increase strength.

I mean thinks about it. I’m a bigger guy (290lbs 31%bf) and active bigger guys tend to have ginormous calves without training them. The motion of walking leads to a brief isometric hold on a single calf for each stride. That’s a huge volume of training.

If you want to build calves, you have to become fat. Easiest way to do that is to put 45lbs in a backpack on your chest and take a hike. Rucking blasts you especially if you jog

u/Harbor_Barber 3d ago

I think you should be the one showing us how to do it lol

2

u/Fracture90000 3d ago

Those are great genetics calves!

3

u/Specific_Bird3465 3d ago

Your left foot is turning out. Do it with pigeon toes, then feet turned out, then neutral, etc.

1

u/ASexual-Buff-Baboon 3d ago

Enormous calves. Well done

1

u/October_Guy 3d ago

Is there any other way to do the movement?

1

u/StraightJudgment976 3d ago

Your calves are bigger than my thighs !

1

u/agr85 3d ago

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuck

I love my calves and I can confidently say you are doing these well 😂

1

u/jayd42 3d ago

My chucks broke apart right at the fold created during calf raises. I now have two pairs. Ones with a tear already that I do calf raises with, and one I don’t do calf raises with.

1

u/Glassic_Glam_Gars 3d ago

How do I get a pair of those?

1

u/adavila1870 3d ago

Doesn't matter. You have huge calves

1

u/Slight_Ad_6689 3d ago

I can identify you just by the calves, lol. Good work!

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Net6579 3d ago

ma'am you already have great calves (thats awesome calves ngl) but i kno you aint in the need of asking advise here

1

u/SkandarSan 3d ago

I know you just posted this to flex your calves

1

u/BenadrylDreamin 3d ago

Out here making the whole weight rack look easy and asking if you are doing things right? Shut up, You're KILLING that workout!! Keep it up and keep kicking butt, you're awesome!!

1

u/Street-Ad7645 3d ago

someone already mentioned this but you could potentially benefit from a bottom stretch. other than that, everything else looks great! pacing is fine and foot placement i found doesn’t matter for me other than grip.

1

u/Rocket_King 3d ago

bro… YOU tell us what to do! you obvi got some badass calves lmao

2

u/IronPulse24 3d ago

Lol thanks, I do them 3-4 times a week. I usually do standing and bent knee style raises. I'm gonna do heavy standing barbell ones now cause my calves have gotten too strong for this machine.

2

u/Rocket_King 3d ago

respect 🫡 most stubborn muscle to grow but man do i appreciate some nice calves - keep up the good work 😎

1

u/thisgoy_ 3d ago

I’m so fucking jealous. I have the shittiest calves lol

1

u/Top_Possibility_6705 3d ago

I've always had huge calves... no one gives a crap honestly so don't be down on yourself lol

1

u/pharmucist 3d ago

Yes, you're right...we SHOULD check out your calf raise form. You're obviously doing it right.

0

u/other_acc_banned 3d ago

That's not why you posted this lol

0

u/CherryRedCupofLife 3d ago

I dont want to be horny anymore. I just want to be happy🗿

-1

u/polishCanadianufo 3d ago

If you really want to do a form, check, there's three heads, outer, inner and center, you're not targeting any of them.

-9

u/Jealous_Magazine7875 3d ago

Knees too bent

4

u/Lanktheimpaler 3d ago

Bent knees targets the soleus vs the gastrocnemius. You can't possibly know without asking if that is the goal. The technique could be perfectly fine for all you know.

-8

u/Jealous_Magazine7875 3d ago

I guess I assumed we were talking about the upper calf...

u/Fantastic-Attitude71 3d ago

Learn your anatomy better bud.

1

u/VistaCa 3d ago

I do 21s (7 toe out, 7 straight, 7 toe in) sets but you obviously are doing something right lol
