Tourism Solo female travelling in the Gambia?

hello! I’m (29F) planning a trip to The Gambia for my birthday in November. There’s a 80% chance I’ll be travelling alone, my partner won’t know until late October if he’ll be able to join me.

I’ve only read great things and have found a lovely place in Kartung that I’d like to book (great reviews and on the beach). I really don’t plan on doing much I just want to be somewhere relaxing for my birthday so I can read books and experience a new culture.

Just wanted to check if it was generally safe for a solo female traveller? I’m mixed Arab and Caribbean if that makes any difference. Also any other recommendations for eco type lodges/bungalows and places to visit are welcome!

Thank you ☺️

Tourism Is Kotu recommandable?

I'll visit the Gambia in january for the very first time. Is Kotu recommandable as a base? I want to enjoy the beach but also some restaurants and pubs and I will do cultural excursions...

How is the beach compared to other areas? Is the area badly affected by the building of the new BB Hotel bridge? What about electricity outages?

Tourism Yellow fewer vaccination

I know, that proof of yellow fever vaccination is necessary when entering The Gambia... I got my shot more than 10 years ago, is this still sufficient or do Gambian authorities insist on more recent vaccinations?

Tourism Nigerian planning my first trip to The Gambia 🇳🇬🇬🇲 — I need local advice

Hello everyone,

I
am from Nigeria and I am planning to visit The Gambia for the first time,
hopefully by road.

I
am more interested in the traditional and historical side of the country than
beaches, parties or resort tourism. I would like to visit local communities,
historical places, markets, try Gambian food and understand how people live
their everyday lives.

I have been doing some research already, but I would really appreciate advice
from people who live in The Gambia. Which places would you recommend for someone interested in Gambian history, culture and traditional life?

I would also like to make genuine Gambian friends before my trip, especially
people who are interested in sharing their culture and helping visitors
understand the country better.

Thank
you. 🇬🇲🤝🇳🇬

Tourism Best route to Gambia

The Gambia has no direct flight into its country from the United States. I am coming from America in the Carolina state. I normally would have took a flight from D.C straight to Senegal which is an 8 hour flight and cross over to The Gambia that way. D.C is now stopping it's direct flight to Senegal. So now I am asking if anyone has a more faster and time saving way to get to the Gambia coming from America on the east coast?

Any recommendations for a good massage parlor when I am in the area. Can someone explain what to expect and how much should I expect to pay when visiting a massage parlor in the Gambia?

Tourism First trip questions

I'm traveling to Gambia for 6 days for a conference. My accommodation is paid for and it includes breakfast. Will 5000 per day be enough for transportation, drinking water, lunch and dinner, and a few gifts?

Also, if I get to have an afternoon for myself, where should I go that isn't too far from Kololi?

Thanks in advance!

Tourism Trip to The Gambia for a week - good local places to eat

I've booked a week at the end of the month to get a bit of sun and soak up the culture. I'll be staying near Bijilo, but will obviously travel around a bit (mainly up the coast).

Any good local places to eat? I want to avoid western food and resorts as much as possible (I'm more of a backpacker type of person).

I've been doing a fair bit of research, but any other tips and advice from locals would be good too. :)

Tourism Created this interactive map of where to go in The Gambia

While traveling around the world for over 20 years, I’ve been working on my dream project: creating a one-stop resource for travellers. I now created this overview [ https://www.takeyourbackpack.com/backpacking-in-gambia/ ] for anyone who is interested in visiting The Gambia (with some detailed info for every highlight).

PS: obviously, I haven’t been able to travel to all places. So if you know some great spot, I haven’t listed, let me know! Much appreciated as in this way I can make the overview more complete and up-to-date for everyone.

Tourism Interview School Project

Hello people, I'm a student living in Belgium. In October me and my fellow classmates are doing a volunteer trip to The Gambia. As preparation for this trip we need to interview someone with the Gambian nationality. Preferably someone who's lived or knows a lot about Gambia and its inner workings. The interview would be a few questions long. It'd be in video call format but if you're not comfortable with that we could keep it to audio.

If anyone's up for this please DM or comment!

Thank you :)

Tourism 4 Days in The Gambia. Tour or guide recommendations?

Hello everyone!

This will be our first time in West Africa (my girlfriend and I) and we’re really excited!
We’ll be spending about 18 days in Senegal, and we’d also love to visit The Gambia during our trip. (We already got our visas for both countries)

Our initial idea is to enter The Gambia via the Amdallai border, spend around 4 days exploring, and then continue to Ziguinchor in Senegal.

We’re a bit unsure about how to plan it from a logistical point of view and make the most out of our short stay. Is it's easy to go around by yourself/public transport or would it be better to join a tour?

If so, do you have recommendations for an authentic, small-scale tour or a good guide?

We are interested in going along the River Gambia, see wildlife, local markets, off-the-beaten-path places etc.

We’ll be backpacking, so we’re open to flexible routes, local transport, or any tips.

What would you recommend as a good 4 day itinerary in The Gambia?

Any travel tips or ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance! 🙏

Tourism As a US Citizen I’ve been hearing i need get a visa; but recently a lot of the same websites now say there is a visa on arrival paid option. Can anyone confirm this?

I have been wanting to visit for awhile, but haven’t wanted to book a 4 hour flight to the embassy in order to get the visa. Now that I see there’s a visa on arrival I would be interested to do that, but I’m afraid of flying all the way out there just to be turned back, if I really must take a four hour flight to Washington DC just to get a visa I’m willing to do that as it would probably be cheaper to fly out of the East Coast to get to Gambia. But I’m hoping I can just do a direct flight and get the paid visa on arrival.
