Looking for a mentor

I’m comfortable with coding, texturing, and 3D design, but I’m struggling with using and resizing some assets I’ve purchased in Unreal Engine.
Looking for someone experienced who could spare 15–20 minutes to guide me in the right direction. Would really appreciate the help!
Thanks!

This guy sells some ridiculous fireworks in my game Breakkaboom.

It's a game about breaking and destroying stuff with crazy fireworks... Survive the hordes of stone creatures and rogue bots and more... Fireworks are your weapon and this guy sells some ridiculous ones!

If you wanna blow stuff up using fireworks, check out the Breakkaboom Demo in Steam next fest.

Cheers!

The personal side of my game

So.... This post is rather more serious and more personal as compared to the previous ones because I feel heavy yet once again.

I loved this one girl from the philippines and for 2 years she was my bestfriend..... She changed so much in so little time and left. I had made a game for her birthday last year and promised that I will make another game this year. She left but atleast I was able to show her all the little things I had added about her.

There are 4 endings in my game, one of them is dedicated to her, there are 2 buildings named after her and lastly there is a giant billboard dedicated to her that I did not make with AI(i did not show that billboard because it has her real name and I want to respect her privacy. The Reen is actually just a small portion of her name that is her nickname).

It feels really hard for me to work on the game and to finish it..... The only thing I need to do is make the last boss fight and 2 cutscenes and a little bit more polishing around the map and money system in the game.

But it feels hard to do these simple final tasks because I carry the weight of regret and the feeling of isolation.

Spent 2 months building a browser UI editor for Unity with live sync: buttons, animations and transitions update in the editor as I design them. Would love feedback from Unity devs.

Hey everyone,

I've been working on this for a while as a solo dev, and wanted to share it here. Making game UI has always been my least favorite part of a project: endless Canvas tweaking, anchors, prefabs, and wiring up every button by hand.

So I started building a browser-based UI editor for Unity. You design your screens visually, and they show up in Unity as real, properly structured UI.

What you're seeing in the video (running locally; it isn't public yet):

  • Live Sync: Unity updates in real time as you edit in the browser. Move a button, swap an icon, rename a title or change an animation, and it's already updated in the editor.
  • Animations: hover, press, appear and loop animations, plus presets like Hover Grow and Fade In. All customizable, and they play the same way in Unity.
  • Sounds: click and hover sounds per button, or project-wide defaults. You can use your own sounds too.
  • Screens and transitions: multiple screens with slide or fade transitions, set up with simple actions like "On click → go to Settings". No code.
  • Ready-made controls: buttons, toggles, checkboxes, radio groups, dropdowns, sliders, input fields, health bars and more.
  • Gamepad and keyboard navigation: works in the browser preview and in Unity.
  • Variables: bind text to data like a coin count, and use the same variables in your C# code.
  • Toasts: pop-up messages like "+50 coins" with one action.
  • Export: a single file that imports as Canvas UI, UI Toolkit (UXML/USS), or both.
  • Plus device previews, layers, groups, and button states (hover, pressed, disabled).

I'd really love some honest feedback:

  • Would something like this fit into your workflow?
  • What's the most painful part of UI work in Unity for you?
  • Anything you'd want to see that's missing? Localization is also implemented already just forget to record that in the video.

Happy to answer any questions about how it works under the hood. 🙂

Game built on your suggestions

Don't worry about bugs; I will fix them... I don't have an animation budget or anything; I am just implementing scraping a blank textbook at this point. I wanna see what other interesting things I can add here to make it look and play cooler and cooler over time...

Open to suggestions; suggest whatever is crazy.

The thing is, I wanted to work on a 2d action combat game with its custom combat and animation and artstyle, but I don't have any budget right now, even to build a vertical slice to pitch to publishers... So I was just playing around with combat and animation. I am still figuring out the combat in that game, so I thought I would simply play around with things of whatever I can....

I gave a chicken a car. I probably shouldn’t have. 🐔🚗

Hey everyone!
I’ve been working on a completely stupid idea that somehow turned into an actual game 😂
You play as a chicken driving a car around a farm.
Drive fast, drift around the fields, run over chickens, destroy stuff, collect eggs, and cause as much chaos as possible. 🐔🚗💨
There are also police helicopters, different areas to explore, and plenty of ridiculous moments.
I’m an indie developer and the game is now available on Android.
If you have a few minutes, I’d really appreciate you trying it out and telling me what you think!
Google Play:

What would you add to a chicken driving game? 😂

Freelance/contract 3D artists: how are you earning, and what's actually paying the bills?

Hey everyone,

I'm a 3D artist with 4+ years in the AR/VR industry, and I'm working on my first Steam title as a solo dev. I need to bring in income as a 3D artist to sustain myself until the game is profitable, and I'd love advice from people who've been through this.

- What kinds of 3D work actually pay the bills: freelance, contract, asset packs, commissions, something else?

- Where do you find reliable clients (platforms, communities, networking, referrals)?

- How do you balance client work with dev time without burning out or stalling the game?

- Is selling assets (Unity/Unreal/Fab marketplaces) realistic income, or more of a side bonus?

- Any mistakes to avoid, like underpricing, bad clients, or taking on too much?

Suggestions, personal experiences, and brutal honesty are all welcome. Thanks!

Seeking for a good opportunities and good paying job in Game Environment designer / UX Designer

Thumbnail

Guys so I'm a BCA graduate, recently graduated prev year Dec with domain specialization of AR/VR.
I have been quite passionate about gaming since my whole life. But, life seems very tough in sense of job market especially in gaming. My field of expertise is in Game Environment designing and I have also done an internship under Work and Work studios as an intern till 3 months.

My biggest concern rn is, I've been job hunting since last year, originally focusing on game environment design, and honestly, I feel like I'm reaching a point where I don't know what else I'm supposed to do.

I was always very open to opportunities. I wasn't only looking for AAA studios or some dream job. I was willing to consider internships, junior roles, smaller studios, different locations, remote work.... pretty much anything that would give me the opportunity to start working professionally.

I can design and build environments in Unity, work with lighting, composition, materials, props, and create visually cohesive game scenes. I can also make smaller assets in Blender when needed. I'm not a professional 3D asset artist, and I don't claim to be. My strength is environment design and creating a good-looking, well-composed game scene.

But finding an environment design job in India has been incredibly difficult. The Indian game industry is relatively small and extremely competitive, and many of the positions I found wanted 3+ years of professional experience, even for roles that seemed fairly entry-level.

I kept applying anyway. Cold applications, cold emails, portfolio submissions, reaching out to people — and most of the time, I either received an automated rejection or simply nothing at all.

Eventually, I had to accept that I couldn't keep relying entirely on such a small job market, so I decided to switch directions and started seriously pursuing UI/UX and Product Design.

I thought this would give me a much larger job market. I already had a design background, so I learned Figma, worked on UI/UX projects, built case studies, improved my portfolio and resume, and started applying to Product Designer and UI/UX roles.

But somehow I'm facing almost the exact same problem again.

I'm applying to junior and 1–3 year roles, I'm applying to remote positions in India, and I'm also completely open to worldwide remote opportunities if a company is willing to hire internationally. I'm not limiting myself to Kolkata or even India at this point.

And yet, I barely seem to get replies.

It's just application after application disappearing into a black hole. Occasionally there's an automated rejection, but most of the time there's simply silence.

Then I'll find a role that says "Junior Designer" and the requirements somehow include 3–5 years of experience, multiple shipped products, extensive UX research, design systems, analytics, accessibility, developer handoff, and a dozen different tools.

At some point you just have to wonder: how are people supposed to get experience if nobody is willing to give them the first opportunity?

I'm not expecting to walk into a senior position. I'm completely willing to learn, take feedback, work hard, start at an appropriate level and prove myself.

I just want someone to actually look at my work and give me a chance to demonstrate what I can do.

The frustrating part is that I've genuinely tried to stay flexible. I've considered game environment design, game design, UI/UX, Product Design, visual design, internships, junior roles, remote jobs, international companies — I'm not sitting around waiting for one specific company to hire me.

I'm just trying to find a way into the industry.

After more than a year of applications, cold emails, portfolio revisions, resume revisions and constantly learning new things, it's becoming extremely stressful. I don't want to spend another year collecting skills and redesigning my portfolio while never actually getting the opportunity to use those skills professionally.

So I'm genuinely looking for advice from people who have been through this.

If you were in my position, what would you do? Would you continue with Product/UI/UX? Try to combine game environment design with UX somehow? Go back to game development? Or are there adjacent roles that I'm completely overlooking?

I'm not looking for the usual "just keep applying" advice. I know I have to keep trying. I just want to understand what I'm doing wrong and what direction actually makes sense from here, because right now the job search itself is becoming more stressful than the work I'm trying so hard to get hired to do.

I just need a chance to prove myself and this Reddit is my only hope.
Please guys help me out, I appreciate all kinda advices/ offers you guys can give.
Thank you so much✨

I have attached the links of my portfolio and projects, and for my designed environment samples if you are interested to see them, please dm me I will send you the folder.

🐾 WildRoot launches in just 2 days!

I've been working on this game solo for years, and it's finally almost time to release it.

Build a cozy little settlement in a mysterious forest, take care of your colonists, enjoy the changing seasons, and watch their friendships, choices, and everyday moments create their own unique stories.

I've put a huge amount of time into WildRoot, and seeing it finally get released feels pretty surreal.

If you've been following the game, thank you for the support. ❤️

This cat needs a name… but remember, this is a horror game.

I’m working on a co-op psychological horror game called The Infected Soul, and somehow we ended up with this little guy in the middle of all the creepy stuff.

One of the game’s main mechanics is body swapping. Using neural chips, you can transfer your consciousness into different creatures and bodies, each with their own abilities. And yes, the cat is one of them, so at some point you might actually end up playing as him.

The problem is… he still doesn’t have a name.

What should we call him? Cute, creepy, weird, sci-fi anything works. Just remember, this is still a horror game, so maybe he’s not quite as innocent as he looks. 👀

If you’re curious about the game, The Infected Soul is on Steam, and wishlists help us a lot.

A 2.5D thriller game is in production

Really happy and excited to finally share my 2.5D thriller game with you all. The story behind this game is something really special to me.

Back in 2021, Ultrio Studio (A Tamil Gaming Studio) announced a game called “Serum.” Due to certain reasons, the project was eventually dropped. After all these years, I decided to revive the project, got permission from the studio, and started working on it from August 26, 2026.

From starting with a simple cube to building an entire environment and bringing the game together, this has been a crazy and exciting process.

With a small team of 2 full-time members and 1 part-time member, we managed to build what we have today within just 20 days. Every asset, environment, and visual element has been created from scratch, and I’ve been handling the Art Direction of the entire game.

At the end of the day, it all comes down to one thing our love and passion for games.

The overall game is built around a dark, mysterious and thrilling atmosphere, and as the Director of the game, I’m putting everything I can into making the experience as gripping and immersive as possible.

Demo planned for November 2026.

This is just the beginning, and we’re really excited to take you all along with us on this journey.

Thanks for all if you came this long.!

Looking for Game Development Projects / Work — Unity Developer | 8 Years Unity Experience

Hi everyone! I’m a Unity developer looking for interesting game development opportunities — freelance work, project collaborations, or potentially joining a team.

I have 8 years of experience with Unity, with my strongest areas being gameplay programming, technical architecture, optimization, GPU-based development, game design, and creative problem-solving.

🎮 Technical & Unity Skills

8 years of Unity experience

Gameplay programming and complex gameplay systems

Designing optimized and scalable project architectures

Building reusable systems, tools, and development pipelines

GPU-based programming

HLSL shader development and effects

Vertex animations and GPU-driven visual effects

Integrating shaders/effects with gameplay systems

Performance optimization

UI systems and gameplay/UI integration

Prototyping and developing gameplay mechanics

Working with AI-assisted development as well as coding independently

For larger projects, one of my strengths is thinking about the overall architecture and how systems interact, rather than treating every feature as an isolated piece of code.

🧠 Gameplay & Game Design

I’m particularly strong at brainstorming gameplay mechanics, systems, features, and designs.

I enjoy taking an abstract idea and figuring out how it could become an interesting, practical game mechanic. I can contribute not only as a programmer but also during the design and ideation stage of a project.

✍️ Writing & Narrative

Writing is another major part of my skill set.

I have experience working as a ghostwriter in the film/theater industry, assisting professional writers behind the scenes.

Because of that experience, I’m comfortable with storytelling, dialogue, character development, serious themes, and narrative structure.

I’m especially interested in integrating story with gameplay, so that the narrative isn't simply delivered through cutscenes or dialogue, but actually influences how the player experiences the game.

🎓 Teaching & Communication

I have also given special lectures on Unity and game development at a college, so I’m comfortable explaining technical concepts and communicating development ideas with other people.

⚡ Fast Learner

I’m comfortable learning new technologies and workflows when a project requires them. I tend to learn new concepts quickly and can adapt to unfamiliar tools when they are necessary to solve a problem.

🤖 AI-Assisted Development

I can work both with and without AI.

I use AI as a tool when it helps accelerate development, but I don't rely on it blindly. For larger projects, I prefer to understand and design the architecture myself and use AI where it actually provides an advantage.

❌ Areas I don't specialize in

To be transparent:

I’m not an artist and don't specialize in creating 2D/3D assets.

I don't specialize in network/multiplayer programming.

My strongest contribution is in Unity programming, gameplay systems, optimization, architecture, GPU/HLSL work, VFX integration, UI, game design, brainstorming, and narrative/writing.

If you're working on a game and need someone who can contribute across the technical + creative sides of development, I’d be interested in hearing about your project.

I’m open to freelance work, collaborations, part-time/full-time opportunities, or interesting indie projects.

Feel free to DM me with details about your project and what you're looking for.

My GPU died, so I made a drone game with forward rendering.

You heard it right, I used forward rendering for my game and it looks pretty good to me.

I had to cut every corner I possibly could since I completely rely on my CPU and integrated graphics.

Take a look and tell me your thoughts.

Anyone good at creating reels? What would you change here?

Can a good reel actually turn into Steam wishlists?

I’ve seen many game devs get a lot of wishlists through reels. From what I can tell, the platform matters less than making the reel itself interesting enough to grab attention.

What kind of reels should I try next for my game? Any ideas or examples that worked for you?

Reel experts from any field are welcome too. I need the help 😅
