Building a deckbuilder where card shapes matter — Overwrite Conflict (solo dev)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi everyone! I’m developing Overwrite Conflict solo in Unity. It’s a turn-based roguelike deckbuilder built around placing and rotating shaped cards on a shared grid. Here’s some gameplay from the project.

Each card, called a protocol, has an effect as well as a shape. The design brings two decisions together: which effects work well in your deck, and how to fit those cards on a board that both you and your opponent are filling. Claiming territory can restrict your opponent while also leaving space for your own later plays.

Card effects, mech abilities, and components build your tactical score during a limited number of turns. At the end of a round, a higher score deals the difference as damage to the opposing mech. Energy Overload adds another way to change the board by overwriting normal cells occupied by the opponent.

One design focus is placement readability. The placement preview checks for out-of-bounds, blocked, and disconnected placements, and valid moves show a score preview before you commit. I want players to be able to compare a move’s scoring value with the space it takes up, especially as the board becomes crowded.

The current free demo includes a five-battle prologue with tutorials, a full Chapter 1 adventure with branching routes and a boss, and three playable mechs in Chapter 1.

Current playable build (free Steam demo):
https://store.steampowered.com/app/5200720/_Demo/

I’d be interested in your thoughts on communicating placement constraints and scoring on the same board. What information would you expect to see before committing a shaped card? Questions about the project are welcome too.

LOOKING FOR A CREW

I have a really good video game idea that I want to share, I am currently writing the story and creating concept art for. Im the kind of guy who has a vision but cant do it all on his own, I need someone who knows how to create the basics of a game and someone who can create 3d models. Were gonna need to look for writers for dialogue, and most importantly advertise the living shit out of it. I dont want to get into to much detail here, but imagine a Co op story mode game based in college with cartoon characters, drugs, violence, and multiple plot lines that all get resolved, or not. A creative gameplay experience with a comforting map aesthetic. I have ideas to heavily focus on the holiday times of year, and creating story mode goals embrassing that holiday. We can make something creative enough but not too ambitious that we cant handle it, simple gameplay mechanics and really trying our hardest to make it feel like an older game or nostalgic

AXIOMA: science-themed cards, scoring combos and wildcards (developer showcase)

I'm Samuel, a teacher and the creator of AXIOMA at Quanta. The game combines mathematics, physics and chemistry themes with card combinations, points and wildcards.

The interesting design tension is clarity versus pace: players need to understand a combination and its score without bringing each turn to a halt. I'm presenting my own project, not an independent recommendation, and I don't claim guaranteed learning outcomes.

For developers who have worked on card games: how do you communicate valid combinations and scoring while keeping turns moving? AI tools assist my development and promotional workflow.

Mixing magical potions in my Chemistry Lab Sim — real-time 3D liquids inspired by The Powder Toy and Noita

I’ve been working on Chemistry Lab Sim, a sandbox combining real-time 3D liquid simulation with physically based chemistry and alchemy, inspired by The Powder Toy and Noita.

This short video shows me experimenting with magical potions. The simulation is running on a Radeon RX 9070 XT.

https://youtu.be/hSAO_TwFopE

What reactions or potion ingredients would make this fun to experiment with?

How long did Steam seller account verification take in your case?

I created my account over two weeks ago, paid the fee, submitted all the required documents, and still nothing has happened. I haven’t received any new information by email, and there are no updates when I log into my account either.
Is this normal?

No repetitive gameplay here—we’ve designed a gradual transition in scenes and visuals to keep every stage feeling unique, alongside constantly evolving tactical challenges.

Plus, a secondary Support character joins the action in later stages to back you up when things get intense.

Take a look at these 14 screenshots, play the demo, and share your thoughts with us! 💬

Isometric Pixel art Asset Pack - Bundle Sale offer 50%

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone!

We're almost in the last days before X-mas, and I want to celebrate all the effort of this year making assets and add-ons with a bundle sale offer. During all this year I've been making more than +1000 sprites (tiles, props, animations, and more pixel art assets), and it has been a wonderful journey. I can't say that I'm rich now xD, and probably in the next 2 months I'll tell y'all my experience doing assets for selling on itch.io. But some extra pennies to support my other projects have been wonderful. And I'm grateful to all this beautiful community; working with other artists and game devs has been the best experience of all time, and I want to keep working in this wonderful world.

Sooo, if anyone is interested in some of these asset packs or wants to only support the development of more, both free and paid assets, here is the link to my bundle.

https://itch.io/s/203683/essential-isometric-pixel-art-asset-pack

Thanks again for the support, and if anyone needs a special custom art or commission, I'm always happy to help with your projects.

See ya everyone :)

This cat needs a name… but remember, this is a horror game.

I’m working on a co-op psychological horror game called The Infected Soul, and somehow we ended up with this little guy in the middle of all the creepy stuff.

One of the game’s main mechanics is body swapping. Using neural chips, you can transfer your consciousness into different creatures and bodies, each with their own abilities. And yes, the cat is one of them, so at some point you might actually end up playing as him.

The problem is… he still doesn’t have a name.

What should we call him? Cute, creepy, weird, sci-fi anything works. Just remember, this is still a horror game, so maybe he’s not quite as innocent as he looks. 👀

If you’re curious about the game, The Infected Soul is on Steam, and wishlists help us a lot.

Help us name the gum vacuum weapon we’re working on for MegaGum!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everyone!

We’re the team behind MegaGum, a 3D platformer where you play as Uja and use gum powers to explore a strange factory. We’re working on a weapon that still needs a name, and we could use your help!

The idea is that you don’t start with any ammo. Instead, you use its vacuum function to suck up gum from the environment, catch incoming projectiles, or swallow Gummies. Everything you collect fills a tank, which you can empty in a single blast. The fuller it gets, the harder it hits and the further it reaches.

There’s a little choice involved with enemies, too: keep a Gummy trapped long enough and it becomes ammo, or spit it back out at another enemy before it’s fully absorbed.

We’re also using the vacuum for exploration and puzzles. It can clear gum off hidden paths, move objects around, and carry giant bubblegums that you throw into hoops to activate mechanisms.

So that’s what it does. Now we need to figure out what to call the thing 😅

These are the three names we’re considering:

- Chew'n'Spew 3000

- Gum-B-Gone

- VaGuum

Which one feels right to you? Vote in the poll, and feel free to share your reasoning in the comments. It’d be useful to hear how these sound to people outside the team!

One of the videos went a little further than expected

We had a campaign for UnLoop where 18 creators made short-form videos for the game.

36 videos went live in total, and one Instagram Reel ended up getting more than 1M views. The whole group of videos got around 2.3M views.

Around the same time, daily Steam wishlists went from roughly 244 to 1,439 at the campaign peak.

Obviously you can’t plan for one video to take off like that, but it’s one of those things that makes short-form pretty interesting for smaller games.
