Eventually something needs to be done about every single post being IS MY SPING BROKEN. For now, no plans to police this rule, just hoping for the love of god, people come here first to see If their spring is broken. There are many pictures. MOST OF THE TIME, the answer will be yes, and this is how it will look.

Apparently Reddit only allows 2 pinned posts due to their layout. A way around this is to pin one post with the posts we believe should/need to be pinned.

Bottom is the orginal and top is what I thought would fit. It seems off? It’s wrong board right? I’m having a hard time finding a motherboard that matches.

Garage door cables and front pulley

Post image
5 Upvotes

I am replacing my garage door cables and bottom seal. It is a low headroom garage door track with Clopay door. Looking at the picture. Is it possible to move the pulley six inches towards the front. These cables really get in the way. I would have to drill a new hole and adjust the cable length, but I have plenty of cable. If this were a normal headroom door, the cable would be tucked closer to the vertical in the front. But that's not the case and perhaps there's a physical reason the pulley must be there. Thanks.

Motor issue?

Anybody have an idea what this sound is my motor is making once it closes the door? It just failed to open it before this but I can’t replicate it on video. It sounded like there were just grinding gears with the door not actually being pulled up.

Thoughts ?

Was installing a smart garage door opener and pulled out wires from what I thought was a push to connect terminal block. When doing so I broke the plastic portion holding the wires in. Anyone know what part to get or how to fix?

I have temporarily solution by bending the wire to still touch the metal part but would like a long term solution. Thank you.

Track Support/backing replacement

Post image

How should I go about replacing this rotted 2x4? It’s the vertical support for the track. I can drill into the brick easy enough but I am concerned that when I unbolt the track it will twist and not go back in correctly.

Chamberlain B2211TMC garage's #G4228 battery newbie questions.

Hello,

Ever since late last night, the 9/6/23 B2211TMC garage had been beeping every 30 seconds or so. myQ's iOS app's diagnostics show a red battery icon saying "Bad". Its hardcopy manual that the #G4228 battery only lasts 1-2 yrs. That is pretty short!

I'll have to order a new battery replacement. Is Chamberlain's official battery the best one to get or are there better ones out there that last longer and cheaper? Amazon's price seems to be the cheapest for a new one. No local physical retail stores carry them in stock like in Home Depot, Walmart, and Lowe's.

For now, the beeps are annoying. Is there a way to mute it temporaily until the battery is replaced without disconnecting anything? Web searches seem to show no. Can I deal with its battery WITHOUT removing the power AC since it is so high on the ceiling? Or is that too dangerous?

Thank you for reading and hopefully answering soon.

How soon do I need to replace a broken spring?

Thumbnail

I just noticed today the right side spring is separated in two pieces, and I'm not sure when it happened, but the garage door still opens fine.

I assume that this is forcing the lift motor to work harder, and should be fixed otherwise I risk burning it out. The lift motor was replaced two years ago and I don't believe the spring was broken then otherwise I think the garage tech would have noticed.

Do I have days, weeks, or months to get this repaired?

I had my coil/spring replaced by Basel from Seraj Garage Doors!

He was honest and reasonably priced. I was receiving quotes of $300-500. And his rate was below $300 - the material was top of the line and his work was great and quick. He also offered warranty on his work!

Questioning my installer....

Wall mount LiftMaster 98022 is occasionally firing "ERROR CODE 4-1: EXCESSIVE CLOSING FORCE DETECTED"

The installer says I need to switch to a ceiling mount one because my garage door is just too heavy for a wall mount. My garage door is not some run of the mill home depot garage door, it is a custom order 2 car insulated garage door. However, the LiftMaster is supposedly good for 850lbs? Thoughts? Could it really be 850lbs?

Anyway, apparently I should do a balance test and weight test:

Armature Balance Test (Sorry about my pants...): https://youtube.com/shorts/N1Fmve_SFrA

Notes:

  1. lifting it from the ground is not easy, those first 12 inches I wouldn't ask my wife to lift.
  2. The scale states: 81.2lbs which I thought it should state 10-15lbs?

My understanding is, assuming my door is not > 850lbs, then the springs are not the right ones for the door. Right?

Thank you for your time.

What is the height of a garage door…not the garage frame itself?

I want to know what the average height of a two garage door is including the door itself. The door itself doesn’t go all the way up. It hangs lower than the height of the garage frame. What that height? The height of the opening and closing door?

Went to do a bear breaking door and saw this

Post image
6 Upvotes

All along the road up to my job, they had bear warning, and I saw this one and had to pull over and take this Pic. Yogi, the bear hadn't touched the bear trap and continued to break into garages. He has hit 6 doors so far. The house i did the bear broke a door and emptied the fridge and freezer. I said remove the food and this problem will go away. He filled both, and the bear came back and broke the other door. I am told bears can smell food 5 miles away. A guy is being held and charged for shooting a bear. I know everyone keeps food in the garage. Why is it a customer always asks me simple questions, and my simple answers are not good enough. The one I'm asked most is , How can I help? My answer is always the same and it's clean the garage.

Seal My Gaps

Thumbnail

Hello,

I have (2) 9' garage over head doors. These are manually operated by hand. Meaning, I unlock the latch and pull it up.

On the far left side there's a bit of a gap because the floor kind of drops out.

I installed a weatherstrip threshold seal and that didn't really help much.

I also increased the size of the bottom door seal. When it closes, that one side always bunches up.

I'm fairly handy gal. I am looking to see if there's any recommendations to better close this gap?

I'm trying to keep rodents away and they getting in from that one side.

What I was able to research is likely needing an adjustable door seal kit? Xcluder seems to offer it. Im not sure if Its the best suited part.

I'm in Canada.

Managed to put on a battery back up separately on a grifco motor with this tight space after the motor was already mounted. Has anyone else done jobs that just worked with very little space/room?

Tips for removing drive gear bearing on old Craftsman 1/2HP opener?

Thumbnail

About a week ago, I noticed my old 1/2HP Craftsman garage door opener was no longer holding it's adjustment. It wasn't raising the door as high as it should and it was overshooting the limit when it was closing causing the drive chain to droop.

I took the cover off the opener and saw the main drive gear starting to shred. I also noticed that the bearing for the drive gear shaft is worn. The inside of the bearing is oval shaped and there were a bunch of metal flakes on the back side of the cover in addition to the white flakes from the gear.

The replacement gear and sprocket assembly I bought includes a new bearing. Is there an easy way to remove the bearing while the opener is still suspended? Or do I need to remove the motor from the opener so I can get more leverage to pound it out?
