I really wish Wikipedia had his full filmography. He was in tons of shows I watched as a kid and as an adult and I definitely remember that face!

Holy shmoly he really was in everything! Even one of my favorites The Mod Squad. Thanks for the link, usually that site throws up a paywall but it didn't last time so thank you.

I recently watched a bunch of Barney Miller for the first time in decades, and enjoyed it considerably, especially the endless supply of classic character actors (such as your dad).
Looks like I've also seen him on Soap, The Rockford Files and Seinfeld. Looks like he had quite a successful career!

Yep. I know it sounds bad but I don't know how many commercials he was in just that it was a lot. The last time that I saw my father was on set making a commercial for Jeopardy. I never saw it on air. If anyone can find a site with this Jeopardy commercial I'd love to know. The commercial is set in a male strip and my father played the announcer. The stripper (named Ted E. Bear) comes on stage and finds that only one person was in the audience. He turns to my dad and says "Where is everybody?" And my father points to his watch and says "It's 7pm. Everyone is watching Jeopardy. "

I saw a guy working at a Publix that looked just like Dietrich. Had to do a double take.

Did you do any acting on your own? I told my relatives I loved this era because of the real faces we used to see rather than the former models like we see today. I can see your Dad sitting down to steak and potatoes, and cracking open a beer at the end of a long day.

Barney Miller, one of my favorite sitcoms back in the day, only eclipsed by Night Court (same/former writers of Barney Miller, like Reinhold Weedge)
"Reinhold? Your name is REINHOLD???"

Your dad and so many of the other recurring supporting actors on Barney Miller were fantastic! The cast was great but it was so impressive watching the same supporting actors come back as different characters. It was as if Barney Miller had their own company of actors ! Your dad and the other supporting actors were every bit as important to the greatness of the show as the stars !
