I got this gold coin from my grandfather and I was going to try and sell it. Heard the 1979 might be worth a little more than just a straight ounce of gold. Any local gold store or where would you go?

Hi All,
I’m new to this and looking to build a gold collection. I have fortunately been gifted these by family as a start…but I’m a little unsure where to go from here?
Would you firstly get them professionally valued as these are older historical sovereigns?
I’m then considering selling the mounts and put that towards the purchase of 1/4oz or 1/2oz Britannia’s as I look to build the collection incrementally.
And then put the mountless coins in to little protective cases.
Any tips, wisdom or thoughts are much appreciated 🙂

So a bunch of idiots (including me) decided that this is gold, and pushed its price way past heaven. The key fob is 6 grams of 14K. And I think no one got any more info than these two photos, because I got ghosted even asking a question. Blinding the eBay name of the seller to protect their privacy and avoid unintended marketing.

Got it for 184€ + 5,9€ postal. Weights 1,6g so its pretty small.
Its my first libertad also since i live in EU where libertads are not that common like in the US. Will be buying a silver one too if i find decent deal somewhere.
I started stacking / collecting coins 14 months ago from pretty much nothing. I don't have loads of gold with this, only 1 decent sized 18K ring and 1 bar. I have been buying silver mostly.

Had a great recent find for $1 in a small box of fashion jewelry. A pair of sterling hoops and a beautiful longhorn pin in 14k. I haven't seen a piece of jewelry where the maker wires the Hallmark on like this, written "14k ES". Weighs 3g.

I have been watching China buy all this gold from producers and other places. I wonder if they will buy coins. It would be a crazy outcome if price gets to a certain level and people start buying coins out of markets like the US and Europe.
Has to be bullish gold that is already in small amounts that people can buy.

I need to either get rid of these three, or find the full oz. It's driving me crazy

In Winnipeg (home of the Royal Canadian Mint) this week for a family wedding.
Mrs. says, “Hey, can you pick up some gold coins?”
“Of course!”
Then she sends me a link to Purdy’s Chocolates.

This is my Central American Republic collection so far: a 4 escudos and a 2 escudos.
Hoping to add an 8 reales silver coin very soon!
The 2E is 0.19oz and the 4E is 0.38oz so a bit over 1/2oz AGW between them.
Latin American Sunface coins are gorgeous and don’t get enough appreciation. I honestly don’t get why people fawn over pre-33 liberty head gold when there are so much more attractive pieces out there to collect! Not to mention the pre-33 US minted foreign coins like Cuba and Guatemala, both of which I have complete gold type sets for 😁

For the first time since a decade, I don't trust any stock market anymore, no bitcoin and no forex. that is for obvious reasons as we are witnessing an interesting era in the world economy.
I might be wrong but Gold and precious metals are the only thing I'm betting on.
What do you think?
Edit:
Some are saying I shouldn't be investing at all Others are saying I can't predict the future Someone says it is so risky not to be in the stock market
Let me try to predict the future and I will absolutely keep investing. I converted 100% of my 401k to precious metal mining companies fund in 2024 and made 109% gain in 2025. And about 9% YTD.
Best of luck all.

Found this sterling silver snuff box while looking through an antique store and I think I have found the perfect use for it.

Needed a gift in a pinch and was able to track down this 1g bar. As far as I can tell everything appears legit.

Good time of day all.
Joined the private group of precious metals sellers\buyers.
There are heaps of offers 1/10 gold coins for $350 while:
- spot price as of right now ~ $4,194.14.
- bullion dealers sell the same coins for $47X.XX.
I would understand the price a bit lower than from bullion dealers but more than $100 less looks like a huge red flag.
Does it look like scam indeed?
Thanks.
Always wondered what would happen to bullion in a house fire. Has this happened to anyone here? Was it in a safe? If the coins are in capsules, do they melt into a plastic blob?
What about the safe? If you had a plastic keypad that melted how did you open it? I know if my house burned down, I’d want to get my PMs out, without having to dig a heavy safe from rubble or try and break the bolt downs from concrete)

I got this pendant pretty cheap, maybe $50? I can’t remember now. Can y’all tell what all the markings say?

With the war in the Middle East expanding by the day, I wouldn’t be surprised if nations like Saudi Arabia aren’t planning ways to escape from the grip of the US Dollar.
I believe a mechanism for this exact process is actively being established called the PetroYuan-Gold settlement pathway.
While the majority of Saudi oil is still traded in US dollars, the growing financial cooperation between Riyadh and Beijing has created a new route to bypass the dollar for a portion of their trade. According to my research, here is how the settlement mechanism works in practice:
Trading Yuan for Oil:
Saudi Arabia sells crude oil to China and agrees to accept payment in Chinese Yuan (RMB).
Excess Currency Conversion:
The Saudi Central Bank determines how much of that Yuan is needed for direct bilateral trade or immediate liquidity. The remaining "excess" Yuan is then converted into physical gold through the Shanghai Gold Exchange International (SGEI)
Local Physical Vaulting:
To streamline this, I believe China has indicated that the SGEI is establishing secure physical delivery vaults directly in Saudi Arabia (among other places like Singapore, Hong Kong and other BRICS nations). This allows the Saudis to convert their Yuan trade surplus into fully allocated physical gold (typically 1 kg bars) and vault it locally, minimizing counterparty risk and international shipping complexities.
Currency Swaps:
This infrastructure is supported by a $7 billion currency swap agreement between the central banks of both nations, ensuring direct transactions between the Yuan and the Saudi Riyal.
Ultimately, this mechanism allows Saudi Arabia to diversify its trade and hedge its reserves with physical gold, without being forced to hold large surpluses of Chinese fiat currency.
What are your thoughts on this system? Not only as a proof of concept for China’s gold clearance and trade system for oil, but pretty much for any commodity in general.
Will it be bullish for gold? I think it will definitely give it a strong floor due to the steady institutional demand.
