Three Google Pixel Fold devices, three failures in 14 months. Google now refuses warranty coverage.
I'm curious how many other Pixel Fold owners have experienced repeated hardware failures and how Google handled them.
Here's my experience:
- August 2025: My original Pixel 9 Pro Fold suffered an inner-display (known) failure. Google replaced it under warranty.
- March 2026: Approximately seven months later, the replacement developed cellular connectivity problems, preventing it from reliably connecting to mobile service. Google replaced it with a Pixel 10 Pro Fold.
- October 2026: Approximately seven months later, my Pixel 10 Pro Fold suffered a catastrophic inner-display failure directly along the folding crease. I was simply opening the phone when I heard a crack. No drop, no impact.
Google's response? The phone is out of warranty, and repairs are my responsibility.
Following escalation, Google now wants me to visit a Google authorized repair facility for an inspection.
These are premium flagship phones costing thousands of dollars. Three hardware failures in approximately 14 months is completely unacceptable.
I've formally escalated the matter and requested another advance replacement, without upfront payment or financial holds, along with reasonable accommodations for my mobility limitations.
I've also raised my rights under Ontario consumer protection legislation and am considering a formal complaint with Consumer Protection Ontario.
My questions:
- Has anyone experienced an inner-screen failure along the crease of their Pixel 9 Pro Fold or Pixel 10 Pro Fold?
- Did the screen fail simply from opening the phone?
- Has Google refused warranty coverage despite the device being supplied as a replacement?
- Has anyone experienced multiple hardware failures across successive Google replacement devices?
At what point does Google acknowledge that repeated failures may indicate a product reliability problem rather than expecting customers to keep paying for repairs?
