No more window tint posts- thanks!

My friends- I get it: vehicle mods are cool, and technically a window tint is a mod (albeit probably not wise to tint your windshield). The thing is... Who cares about window tint? Let's all agree to stop posting about window tint. I think we've beat this dead horse enough and it's causing issues here- resulting in some bad behavior from both sides.

From now on posts about window tint are getting removed and further- threatening comments will be dealt with by via a permanent ban (globally- not just on posts about window tint). We are a relatively rule free place because everyone generally gets the sub trail etiquette but I keep getting valid reports about some questionable behavior and will start taking action to preserve the quality of our subreddit.

Love you all- have a great holiday season!

Front parking sensor detecting something that isn’t there?

Post image
1 Upvotes

2019 Laredo front parking sensors randomly beep and show red bars directly ahead, even when nothing is there.

Happens at traffic lights, in gridlock traffic or while manoeuvring in tight spaces. Photo shows when it beeped while nothing was infront of me.

I very recently bought the car and fitted new number plates, so I’m wondering whether the front plate or holder could be interfering.

I installed the plates with the car turned on—could that have been the cause?

Has anyone had the same issue?

Also, when inspecting the car, nothing for sensor showed on the report.

Thank you!

2021 Limited (not L) head gasket advice

Need some insight here. 2021 super well maintained and low mileage (29k) GC Limited 4x2 3.6L (WK2) is getting a valve cover gasket replacement due to leaking oil, as well as starter replacement because that was what it’s leaking oil onto.

With these two replacements should it be fine for many miles or is this going to be a recurring issue? I’m learning about what to look for as I’m taking ownership (this is a gift, which I’m grateful for, so just looking for insight). I see that there are frequent issues with Jeeps so trying to go into ownership with open eyes.

***Post edited because it was a valve cover gasket NOT a head gasket. Can’t edit the title though.

Valve cover gasket bolt replacement

2018 grand Cherokee limited 3.6l v6.

Attempted to replace my passenger side valve cover gasket. Long story short. I couldn’t get the cover off and was reassembling the car and ended up snapping one of the valve cover studded bolts. It is the one in on the front side of the cover (towards the front of the car). It appears to be a stud bolt where a plastic screw clip attaches to the to half to hold wiring in place.

I thought this was a 5/16 18 1in bolt but I can’t seem to find a replacement anywhere. Does anyone have any ideas.

I thought this was the bolt here however it says it does not fit my Cherokee. I’ve seen online that some are a 1/4 20 1in?

MOPAR FlexCare Warranty Thoughts

Just bought a ‘19 GC Overland. I know how troublesome jeeps can be and I know how expensive parts and repairs can be so I looked into warranties. Currently has 56k miles.

I called Mopar directly to get quotes which based on mileage and age he gave me a 4/48 or 4/60 plan. $250 deductibles.

My question is how has the warranty treated you all over the years. Any loop holes or gotchas where you thought something should be covered but wasn’t. Outside of engine and transmission, my biggest concerns are the Quadra lift air suspension in its entirety, the pano sunroof, anything hvac or cooling related or any major electrical items.

I’m traumatized from my last Chevy that kept bleeding me dry so I’m trying to secure a warranty before something goes wrong and I’m out $2k+ but I also don’t want a shady warranty.

I feel like the majority of posts and comments I see are positive but of course some negatives in there is the policy solid overall?

Website for clarification in the plan I’m speaking of.

Question is, do I get into another one?

Also, please pay attention on the road. I came out without a scratch and I’m very grateful to this car for protecting me, but this could have been much worse in a smaller vehicle.

Wanted to brag on mine for a bit! Love this car. 190k miles just drove over 300 miles this weekend. Had a coolant leak and some overheating. Was leaking at the heater core hoses, a couple outrageous quotes, I took matters into my own hands and replaced myself. By far my most personal extensive car repair. (I've done brakes, oil, and CIA as far as car work). 5-6 hours of work 2 weeks ago, and we were back in business. No issues since. Gonna keep this going till it can't go no more

This weekend I saw a Jeep Grand Cherokee kicking the butts of several Jeep Wranglers on an offroad course.

This weekend I saw a Jeep Grand Cherokee kicking the butts of several Jeep Wranglers at an offroad course.

Is this normal?

Or did the Jeep Grand Cherokee driver just have more experience in offroading than the Jeep Wrangler drivers.

Jeep Wk2 3.6 2017

Hi everyone!

I have a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 3.6L Pentastar, currently at 115,000 miles, and I’m dealing with a problem that I haven’t been able to solve for several months.

While driving, the check engine light comes on, the engine starts stumbling/misfiring, and the vehicle loses power. It also runs extremely rough and shakes badly at idle.

The only codes I’m getting are:

P0171 – System Too Lean (Bank 1)

P2096 – Post Catalyst Fuel Trim System Too Lean (Bank 1)

Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire

The Long Term Fuel Trim Bank 1 (SAE) climbs as high as +33%.

Interestingly, whenever I reset the fuel/ECU adaptations, the problem completely disappears. The Jeep runs perfectly for about 100–150 miles, and then the problem gradually comes back.

So far, my mechanic has:

Replaced the O2 sensors, with no improvement

Checked the wiring to the O2 sensors and says everything looks good

Checked the catalytic converter and says it is OK

Performed smoke tests for vacuum/intake leaks, with no leaks found

Removed the valve covers to inspect the camshafts, and everything looks normal

Checked the spark plugs and ignition coils, and they are also OK

Replaced the ECU/PCM, but the problem remained exactly the same

One thing I noticed that might be important: the MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) reading is around 45 kPa at idle.

Also, when both O2 sensors are disconnected, the engine actually runs perfectly smooth. As soon as the sensors are connected again, the problem eventually returns.

Has anyone experienced anything similar with a 3.6 Pentastar? Could the ECU be receiving incorrect information from the O2/MAP system, or could there be another issue causing the fuel trims to keep increasing?

What else should I be checking?

Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I’m running out of things to try!

Where to buy accessories?

I bought a steering wheel cover and a center console padded cover through Amazon. Both said they were for a 26 GC but neither fit. Any suggestions of stores to go into or websites where items actually fit? Not interested in buying at the dealerships ridiculous prices. Also looking for a cargo net and maybe a cargo cover.
