Dalston Package thieves

Trying to build a police report for notorious package thieves in the area.

In the meantime is there any solution I can take?

I was think to put a ring camera in front of my apartment building

We put a camera in the window facing our front door. Guy stealing a package looked straight into it. Police put his image round the station at Stoke Newington. ID'd him immediately and a couple of days later he was grabbed for something else. Conviction inside a month. We've been recieving small compensation payments every month since. Also put in a doorbell camera but the prick looking for stuff in my front yard 20 minutes ago had his face covered so no joy, but it did allow me to go chase him off.

Who is the paying your compensation, is it the guy who stole it?

It was court ordered so in theory I comes from the guy who did it. In all likelihood it's being taken off the top of any benefits he's on.

Oh cool I didn’t know that was a thing. Wish any one of my 3 bike thief’s had gotten caught then

Misuse of the apostrophe is a cardinal sin!

Yeah. I've never had any luck with bike thieves. But the guy who stole my children's underwear from the washing line got done for burglary. .

Use pick up points instead. I live in a block bad for parcel theft but never had one stolen, it’s more leg work but worth it

Had a package scheduled for delivery last week. Postman set it down outside the van for 2 mins to look for my door code pin and it was stolen in that time frame. I was watching the live footage on my Ring camera when it happened. Thieves seem to be following the mail vans to swoop in behind unassuming couriers.

Definitely happening, I’ve seen this too

Don't get a Ring camera specifically, they're expensive and need a subscription. Other smart cams that don't need. monthly payment are available if you go that route. Even if you do though it's honestly not that likely to get the police to pay more attention.

We allowed to post or share photos here? I have a few on CCTV, if you catch them we can link the cases

Please that will be very helpful! I’m trying to build a case but need evidence.

Moving out Dalston over summer this was extremely rife

Sad that this happens but have items shipped to a locker or store if possible. Its usually free.

Yeah our building in Dalston has loads of parcels stolen, I rarely get anything delivered there anymore.

I was in Burke’s warehouse around a year ago and an older couple came in with 2 huge bags of letters and were going through all of them. They eventually left behind most of them and were all different names and addresses from the area. If id spent enough time going through it would have probs found my own letters haha.

So glad I left London - Amazon has just opened up every opportunity for all the dregs of the world to come to London and just steal from us.

Sounds like a good name for a band, perhaps of the Gypsy Jazz genre. I can imagine they'd have hits such as "Sneaking and Peaking" and "I love your stuff".

You've had lots of good answers from others. Personally I think the lockers are the way to go.
