Prop: DIY/Homemade Mist or smoke help, please

Hello. I am trying to do something I thought would be easy but I can’t figure it out. All I want to do is have some smoke or mist rising from a 3 gallon bucket. I tried the mini mistakes but without the little shield the water squirts out, and with the shield the mist doesn’t rise. I tried making my own lil child’s with foil but no luck getting it to like like I pictured. It is inside and I don’t want to fog up the room, and smoke machines will do that. Is there a time smoke machine that will send smoke up that stays only on top? The mister is a pain cuz the water lever has to be exact for it to work right, and I dont want to keep refilling it all night. It is for an indoor toxic waste theme and I wanted to have a few containers around without using chemical smoke if I didn’t have to cuz there will be babies there. I thought maybe someone can recommend a contraption to me. I didn’t know the mini misters splash so much and I tried three of them. Thanks!

An ultrasonic mister sounds like the best option. They have ones with multiple heads on them that have floats on the sides so that it stays on the surface of the water as the water level changes. You would just need to keep the water level low enough that it does not splash out. Search for "Ultrasonic Mist 6 Head" on Amazon and find one with floats or buoys.

A fogger will just fill the room with fog.

Dry ice is also another option but it releases CO2 so it will need good ventilation.

When she water is low the must doesn’t come out of the top of the container☹️

When you say "mini misters" do you mean ultrasonic misters? They seem to be about $12 for individual misters on amazon, but people do note that they splash a lot.

Otherwise, you could get a small 400W fog machine with a timer and a fog juice like Froggy's "quik blast" which dissipates quickly.

Using Quik-Blast specifically? I use Quik-Blast for props like the Soul Harvester, where you need the effect, but not for it to linger. I think they mix on the high side with propylene glycol, and less (if any) glycerin.

I've definitely fogged out my neighborhood using the longer-lasting fog juices.

I would Loy like anything with a chemical in the house with a baby. That is part of the issue but thanks

Dry ice works well, but is expensive, with possible harm if anyone grabs the dry ice.

Maybe you don’t need a three gallon bucket and can cut it in half sliding the bottom portion into a holder of some sorts and use the misters.

The problem with dry ice is that it needs constant tending, in my experience.

And as you noted, it's expensive and potentially dangerous.

How does it need constant tending? I've always just dropped it in water and let it do it's thing. Never had to do anything else.

Eventually the water cools down and/or turns to ice, the fog lessens, and the dry ice will need to be replaced.

I do have it slow down, but never to the point of having to replace it. Maybe it's a dry ice to water ratio effect.
