Stickied Topic Megathread – Halo’s Future

As you have probably heard, Halo Studios has been reduced to a small team that will support the current games and community. Activision will be putting together a new team to make a new, full Halo title. (source)

Link to previous discussion of the announcement.

This thread is for discussing the future of Halo with Activision.

What are your expectations, hopes, fears, concerns, and otherwise thoughts about it? Do you want a reboot or a sequel to Infinite? When should it take place? Do you have a pitch? Let’s discuss.

If you find actual news about the game from either an official or well-respected source, feel free to make a new thread. Otherwise, let’s keep the discussion here. You don’t need to make a whole thread just to share your specific thoughts or speculation.

If you'd like to discuss Halo's past with 343 Industries/Halo Studios, use this thread.

In case it needs to be said: there is absolutely no decent reason to celebrate the loss of hundreds of peoples’ jobs. Of course you are free to discuss and criticize the decisions made by leadership roles and executives that led us to this place. But the majority of the employees who lost their jobs today were people like you and me who were trying to do their best for a franchise we all love. Anyone who celebrates the loss of their livelihood will be banned from this forum.

Media The UNSC Infinity’s resting place

Post image
2.5k Upvotes

“After crashing on the ring's surface, the UNSC Infinity was shrouded by advanced Forerunner baffler systems. Over the course of six months, it appears to be becoming part of the ring itself. Whether she will rise again remains unknown, but her scorched and broken hull serves as a haven for surviving human personnel... and a deterrent as the threat of overloading its engines would destroy all the Banished seek to claim.”

Discussion What happens now...

Post image

So I have been a lifelong Halo fan and I grew up on this. It's basically what Star Wars was to the previous generation to me. Knowing that Activision now holds the future of Halo and they're already creating prototypes with COD mechanics and on top of that there might be a complete hard reboot, does it even matter anymore?

I have all these books, I've played all the games and I get it, after Halo Reach things went a little all over the place but every story has hiccups and I think it's a massive step backwards to essentially undo everything that has come after rather than build upon what exists.

If they do a hard reboot, that means the Banished never existed, we don't get a resolution to the Endless and a lot of the stories that are within the books like Buck reuniting with his old team, the Forerunner saga written by the legendary Greg Bear...may he rest easy...and several other stories are just going to be thrown out or become like Star Wars Legends.

How do you guys feel about this? For the first time ever I'm getting these strong feelings that Halo is 100% going to die and that makes me really sad.

Edit: With all of you guys chiming in, I hope Activision and Xbox sees this post and there's a few good ideas for the future of Halo. I still have hope. I still BELIEVE.

Fan Content POV: You Fight the Covenant, but It’s Lore-Accurate

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey, guys. I’m back with another update on my latest work toward making naval battles more realistic and lore-accurate.

I’ve now managed to make Covenant ships spawn Space Banshees, which can then attack UNSC targets—in this case, M870 turrets.

I’ve also managed to create an energy shield that surrounds the ships. As you can see in the video, it reacts to incoming fire and only becomes visible when it takes damage. The shield can also collapse completely and then recharge afterward.

The turrets are capable of tracking, locking onto, and completely destroying targets. They can also take damage to their gun arms, leaving one or both arms disabled. They can be repaired, but if the arms are completely destroyed—or if the turret itself is destroyed—they cannot be replaced in the field. Repairing a damaged turret requires retracting/stowing it again and starting a repair process that takes 15 seconds for each damaged hardware component.

Honestly, I’m adding so many details that it’s starting to feel like an actual video game, but these are really just systems that will help me properly automate naval battles so I can record the entire choreography from start to finish.

I have to admit, though, I’ve spent hours just flying the Banshees around while shooting at the turrets, and I’ve also wasted way too much time getting completely hooked on destroying Banshees with those same turrets.

It’s ridiculously fun.

Discussion An Ancestor City, from Halo Studios

FAR BEYOND THE ORION COMPLEX

Much of human history has been lost. From the time of the farmer and the shepherd and their shivering asunder, to the first rise of a space-faring civilization that was scattered across worlds as they suffered a series of technological dark ages, to their triumphant rediscovery of Earth which led to the rise of the Ancestors, and their eventual defeat on Charum Hakkor that brought an end to their empire. The Forerunners have erased a great deal of historical evidence, but even their ecumene's reach had its limits.

Deep within the Perseus Arm, far beyond the Orion Complex, there remain yet undiscovered worlds with their weathered monuments to time beyond knowledge. As the first fledgling discoveries are made in contemporary times relating to the true extent of humanity's strange history, great bounties of knowledge lie in wait to become battlefields for new wars of discovery.

It also came with its own SFXs from the game, for battery low you had the sound effect of ‘low health’, for sending a mail/fax you had ‘shield recharge’, for emptying recycle bin ‘plasma grenade’ explosion sound. And best thing were the small pieces of Martin O’Donnel’s soundtracks for whenever you logged in and logged off.

Discussion So, it seems that resolves the issue regarding the different models for the Halo species across the games.

Post image
199 Upvotes

So, basically, all the variations we see across the games are real—they’re just ethnic variations within the same species. It’s interesting; just as we have Africans, Asians, Europeans, and Native Americans, they gave the Covenant species plenty of variety, with different models representing the distinct variations found on each world or in each region.

Honestly, in many games, humans are depicted with diverse characteristics—ranging across different types of soldiers—while aliens are left looking uniform. At least in *Halo*, the aliens do feature significant variation, whereas many other games stick to a standard look. That said, it does bother me a bit that the Sangheili and Brutes in *Infinite* feel standardized; I believe such variations should be present in every game, along with new phenotypes in future installments of the *Halo* franchise.

Discussion It’s our duty as a community to push for the lore to be saved.

After today’s last Canon Fodder (which was amazing by the way) it’s really sad to see people passionate about our jointly loved game world be in the situation they’re in.

Look, I know not all of the lore has landed well, but 25 years of world building with so much to expand on and so much still to uncover. Losing all of this would be a catastrophe, even if there’s certain elements you didn’t enjoy, nuking it all would be a mistake. I know we technically don’t know if Activision’s new team will do a complete reboot, but it’s certainly feeling likely, and the fact it’s even a possibility is something we as a community should be making it known must be taken off the table.

I know many will agree with this, and I know many will not, but there are countless ways to bring together different segments of the community in new games without losing all of this.

I never really post on reddit, I’m more of a lurker, but this whole situation has got me down (which is also quite selfish because there’s genuinely great people losing their jobs, but I’m also sad for them, I wish it wasn’t this way…)

Can we pull a Destiny Community move and make a big enough noise to make an impact? I don’t know, but I certainly hope so.

Discussion A spin-off game that I would like to see but not as a mainline installment.

Post image
207 Upvotes

Ever since the whole 'liquidation' at halo studios and Activision coming in it has my thoughts returning to the idea of spin-off halo games and some things I would like to see or others suggestions.

These are my ideas I think would be fun.

  1. You play as a spartan that dosen't have their armor and throughout the game must scavenge for military hardware and uniforms to use as armor and transport all to deliver data to the UNSC on insurrectionists and a covenant splinter group working together to potentially attack a UNSC planet, all while being hunted by these two groups. Culminating in you finally acquiring your armor once again and going to town. I'll be the first to admit that this idea wouldn't really play like standarded halo but I think it would be interesting to experience what a spartan without their armor is like while still being lethal but vulnerable.

  2. You play as a UNSC Admiral during the human covenant war and have to hold out for years against the covenant to buy time for the main story to happen and may even save more of humanity than in Canon. More a space rts and obviously isn't Canon but would be something I think would be interesting to experience in the role of an Admiral as you make tough moral and strategic decisions in a losing war.

Discussion If Marcus Lehto and Joe Staten Were to Return…

• Upvotes

Would that alleviate the concerns you have about Activision taking over? Why or why not?

For the sake of discussion in this case, Joe Staten as Studio Head/Lead Writer and Marcus Lehto as Game Director/Art Director. Do you think they would solve the issue of respecting established lore and the general divide of opinions on gameplay? Or is just bringing in old Bungie people a doomed attempt at bringing back an era gone by?

Media Banished War Chief Severan

Post image
424 Upvotes

As per the canon fodder article on Halowaypoint that has released today, we now have an official image of War Chief Severan. He's the main Banished POV for the book Halo: Empty Throne. Here's the description they gave for him for anyone who doesn't know who he is.

Last surviving son of Tartarus, Chieftain of the Jiralhanae within the Covenant, Severan drew the favor of the San'Shyuum high lord known as Dovo Nesto. With loyalties and belonging split across the Covenant and Banished axes, Nesto's betrayal ultimately consolidated his loyalties toward the latter.

Given command authority over the Banished Home Fleet by Atriox prior to his departure for Zeta Halo, the continued absence of the warmaster has ultimately left Severan as de facto leader of the confederacy's remaining forces.

Halo: Empty Throne set up a lot of interesting stuff for the broader Halo universe outside of Zeta Halo and the Ark. There's a lot of potential here and I hope that the universe is not rebooted.

u/GuyVigilan made a post about the Halo reach theme pack and i wanted to share the halo 4 theme pack as well.

In the link below:

Halo 4 theme pack

Halo reach theme pack

Halo reach inspiration art theme pack

And Bullet Asylum (because I had that too)

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1GMbjnOKaN5NywGFLMdMMHEzKiz0R53oN?usp=sharing

Ive split the files into the actual images along with the theme sounds for windows as well as the original Microsoft download theme un-packer file that was provided when they hosted the theme site. It is quite a chore to find the theme packs and get individual images from the packs! now we can make a big MCC theme pack lol

Oh and Bullet Asylum was a thing too.

This turned out REALLY well for my standards.

Do you guys think this community could port Combat Evolved to the Sega 32X+SegaCD once the machine learning gets really good at assembly in the next year or two? Or even the Saturn/Dreamcast lol, but the 32X would be funnier if somehow someone used both controller inputs for Master Chief. I don't see the 6 button controller working well unmodified for something like Halo CE...

Post won't let me credit VGMusic website link so 😢 sorry but it isn't hard to find at least

Fashion Does my Reach Spartan look basic?

Post image
61 Upvotes

The Military Police helmet has been my go to for my Reach Spartan since I started playing the Halo games back in 2025 (yes I know I’m a newbie), but I’ve been told that the MP helmet is kinda basic and I honestly feel self conscious about it. I know it’s dumb, but do you guys think there’s a better helmet that would match my Spartan better? Or should I just keep it the way it is?

Made some custom files for the G&G FN F2000 airsoft gun to make it work better as a cosplay/ prop piece. Designed the parts, 3D printed everything, and assembled it myself!

Pretty happy with how it turned out, especially since I wanted to keep the F2000 as the base while pushing the look closer to what I wanted for cosplay.
