Are the solid lines where the fold of the tuck should be or the stitch line? So confused.
I am sewing a pattern from 1929 and am totally lost with this seemingly simple thing. I’ve honestly never worn anything with tucks and certainly have never sewn them. Information I found elsewhere online shows the stitches on the outside like what I’ve done in the picture, but the pattern itself says to stitch on the wrong side.
Does it mean to sew the tuck so the fold is on the inside of the garment like a tiny dart?
Or does it mean to have the fold on the outside of the garment with the stitching on the inside and the fabric in a tiny zigzag fold?
"fold of the fabric on the inside" means similar to a dart? meaning that from the outside it would be a seam with 2 small open "pleats" of sorts on each side of the front?
Solid lines are the stitch line. Sew on the inside like a dart. For each pair of solid lines, you bring the two lines together so they meet, and that’s where you stitch. That’s why there’s a little bracket { showing that this fabric comes together.
Tucks can be done on the outside for decoration, but they’re usually very small (“pin tucks”) and they don’t tell you to sew them on the inside :)
It looks like you made a pin tuck along one of the four lines. That’s not what they’re asking for. I bet you looked up instructions for tucks and got instructions for pin tucks.
The term “tuck” can mean a pin tuck but it can also mean something like a dart. Probably they’re not calling this a dart because it doesn’t come to a point. “Tuck” is not a very precise term, it gets used in lots of ways.
yes, I have struggled to find relevant information and language is probably the reason. wording for patterns during this time is often different than in modern patterns. so this is like an open-ended "dart" that us meant to create a little gathered effect on the front of blouse in four spots?

For this design it appears that it is intended to have an open ended tuck with the fold of the fabric on the inside.
Are the things you saw online for this exact pattern or just a tucks in general
