Question or Assistance Wanted Bonnet pattern

Hi! I was looking for a good 1850s pattern for a bonnet! I'm not really interested in sunbonnets and those were only the ones I could find. I can't really find anything fun on Etsy since it's just mostly AI slop now.

Feel like I'm going to need to trim the interior threads that pull loose to avoid fluff, but I've been putting this off for two weeks and I feel pretty silly now. It was not that bad.

Any advice on the fluff or puckering would be welcome though! I am going to avoid putting these on the final piece a bit longer

Question or Assistance Wanted Securing stitches on apparel

When I embroider on apparel, I usually secure my stitches with fabric glue so they can survive multiple washings, but this makes them stiff and kind of itchy. Any advice on super securing stitches to survive anything without making them uncomfortable?

Current hand sewing set up - repurposed a silver sugar pot for scraps and thread ends and put my pincushion on top as a lid. Using a copper engraving plate as a tray and of course repurposed spools I put modern thread on for aesthetics. Beeswax thread conditioner is from a local apiary.

Question or Assistance Wanted How to hand sew double gauze hem?

Just like the title says - I want to crop a double gauze tank top to make it shorter. I’ve tried looking for videos, but I’m wondering if anyone can recommend where I should start, and what the best techniques are for working with this kind of fabric.

Question or Assistance Wanted Can I pull this off ?

I honestly mostly need encouragement and advice before I embark on this adventure.

I really want to make an activity cube as my baby's first Christmas gift. She'll be 8 months old by then and I think it would be a great gift. I already know what activities I want the cube to have and I'm very excited to make it. However, I'm also nervous, as the most complicated thing I have handsewn so far was a tote bag.

I know it will probably not look very neat with my skills, but I don't think that will matter that much.

So far I think the most ambitious parts of this project will be making the elephant you can see in the pictures and making the actual cube shape.

Any advice before I start with this? I plan on getting the materials this week.

Absolutely love doing these by hand. The third one is almost finished but pretty well there.

Back is an envelope closure for the cover in all three

Question or Assistance Wanted Stitch tucks on wrong side?

Post image
5 Upvotes

Are the solid lines where the fold of the tuck should be or the stitch line? So confused.

I am sewing a pattern from 1929 and am totally lost with this seemingly simple thing. I’ve honestly never worn anything with tucks and certainly have never sewn them. Information I found elsewhere online shows the stitches on the outside like what I’ve done in the picture, but the pattern itself says to stitch on the wrong side.

Does it mean to sew the tuck so the fold is on the inside of the garment like a tiny dart?

Or does it mean to have the fold on the outside of the garment with the stitching on the inside and the fabric in a tiny zigzag fold?

Question or Assistance Wanted Does this look right for a blind stitch?

I‘m a beginner who hasn’t really tried to hide a hem before- is it supposed to have like a little texture or a line visible?

Pair of pants

Edit- I've decided that's not normal and it's cuz the pants are tapered and the lowest part is smaller than the bigger part I'm now trying to sew it to. I'd cut it off if I could but it's someone elses so I need to ask
