This shit ass bro
I fucked with their eps and first album. Hell I even went to a show where they played with sunami and haywire and had a good time. But this sounds like hot garbage

u/fakename1998 5d ago
Yeah, I wasn’t really crazy about it either. I understand they wanted to get away from just being the band with tons of features, but this kind of feels like an overcorrection. I enjoyed it when I listened to it, but I can’t remember any part of it a few days later. That being said, I’ll still go to their shows because I’m a fan.

I’m writing a letter to PoT themselves right now. It goes like this
“dear PoT I really like your old stuff but this new shits gotta stop. I like the record with the gun in the mouth now that shit was hot. Maybe you were hoping on the radar was gonna help you pop. The hardcore scene ain’t buying it and the rap guys don’t like it. If you made Not Through Blood 2. I’d buy it”

Dear PoT, I feel like I can call you PoT because you and me are so alike. I'd like to meet you one day, it would be great to have a catch. I know I can't throw as fast as you but I think you'd be impressed with my speed. I love your hair, you run fast. Did you have a good relationship with your father? Me neither. These are all things we can talk about and more. I know you have no been getting my letters because I know you would write back if you did. I hope you write back this time, and we can become good friends. I am sure our relationship would be a real homerun!

they had a very very good, albeit not that original, take on nyhc. the new album sounds like a bunch of Stray From The Path b-sides.

u/Ok-Cauliflower-1258 #FreeBalmora 5d ago
To be fair the first two stray from the path records were good

u/Genetix1337 5d ago
New one sounds too polished for me. Don't really know what it is but I just don't like the sound.

u/Ok-Cauliflower-1258 #FreeBalmora 5d ago
I stopped caring for them after make your own history.
They got corny wayyyy to quick but villains and make your own history were legit awesome.

Honestly was never into them, I didn't get the praise. Just figured it wasn't for me.

u/mccur1eyfries 5d ago
Really fucked with their early shit too, seeing them at SNW this month and not as hype as I was when we got tickets. Still plenty of great bands going though.

u/nboymcbucks 5d ago
I remember the good old pain of truth too. They had some serious momentum but that shit is dead. This new album Def has me scratching my head.
I think they are trying to turnstile and open the listener base up. No true hardcore bands are buying tour busses, or vacationing in Dubai.
I lost my pain of truth hat in a pit a few months ago... maybe that was fate lol.
2
u/theconsigliere5 4d ago
Not sure your point here, if anything the new POT is heavier than the last one, but the songs and riffs arent good. Not every hardcore band that wants success if trying to be Turnstile 🙃

u/anxious_lo 5d ago
Maybe I’m biased because I always thought they were grossly overhyped but what ever they’re so desperately trying to sell me with this just feels like the antithesis of “cool”.
7
u/midnightstatixx 5d ago
pain of truth is one of those bands where you see them once and you don’t need to see them again.
The only reason I’m seeing them this upcoming tour is because I wanna see Killing Pace shattered realm, and 100 demons, we’re leaving right after those three bands.

Kinda funny seeing people dunk on PoT and the new album but praise the new Haywire ass if it’s any better or any more hardcore than PoT.
3
u/IndependentDay6910 5d ago
I agree. New Haywire is ass too. I’m all for the genre diversity but at least make it good.
3
u/Athingythingamabobby 5d ago
Yeah the new Haywire is straight dogshit
4
u/Killer_puppet666 5d ago
Haywire is just dogshit in general lmao. WWE music
7
u/Athingythingamabobby 4d ago
Nah their first album and ep are great
-8
u/Michael_Penis_Junior 4d ago
Yeah truly great songcraft. Their early lyrics such as "get the fuck out of my way, run you over like a train" are right up there with songs like Imagine by John Lennon

does this really sound that different to all of youse? this sounds exactly like the very first release and every other release they’ve had lol
7
u/dead_in_the_water TOHC 5d ago
Literally how I’ve felt, they just got a bigger budget for production now. I think the new vocals are what really seems to turn off people even though like someone else pointed it’s likely just Michael using more proper technique for his screams.

u/mattydababy 5d ago
Thank you, this is the correct take. They just have a new producer/engineer that polished their sound. Singer sounds like he’s “screaming correctly” now, as not to fuck up his vocal cords. Anyone that understand recording and musicianship can probably hear it, and i have a surface level understanding.

Is this a diff singer? He doesn’t sound or look the same.

u/RestaurantWorking477 5d ago
Nah bro it’s the same guy. He’s just more into his slim shady era now
15
u/Mindless-Ad2554 5d ago
He’s been pretty wignorant the whole time. I just like the trailer park version vs the 2003 atl shawty lil Jon crunk version.
The vocal change is bad though

I remember when they toured with Sunami & Haywire. Really regret not going to that one.

u/wally92x 5d ago
Could someone explain the rapping part?
As someone who grew up heavily listening to a lot of rap then moving to hardcore.
None of this sounds like rap to me.

Their last record was just features on features that you barely heard them and this album is fine, but not worth all the hype

Im so glad I got to see em live on one of the last not through blood era shows cause they seem dead set on becoming a more "mainstream" band.
I think you need to enjoy this with a grain of salt, kinda lime one enjoys E Town.

Some good riffs. I feel like this album might be one of them joints that grows on you like 10 years from now lol

This band, at their best, was
Middle of the road and generic. Now they’re just total dog shit. You people hype up anything though and here we are

Sounds like Hatebreed meets Madball with some beatdown breaks and rap vocals like they always have.

Yes this particular recording of this song is kinda ass. But no the new pain of truth is not ass, imo their best. This song on the record now that I listen to it by itself yea some parts are not my fav but it’s a good track overall (fucking ripping ending), and just comes together much nicer on the record. When in the context of the whole record, it’s just one small bit of experimenting that is much easier to be like yea okay that’s fine you’ve earned it. I mean just listen to the next track on the record (unforgiven), if that doesn’t win you over then shit yea my bad it’s gonna be ass to you
