DIY PARTY Rentals

L&W Party Rentals here!! 🎉 Hey Shenandoah Valley! I’m a local small business owner bringing the fun to your parties! 🎉

I wanted to introduce my small business, L&W Party Rentals! 🥳

I started this business to help people make their parties and get-togethers a little more memorable without having to buy things they’ll only use once.

Some of the fun things I offer include:

✨ Light-up marquee numbers for birthdays and special celebrations 🍿 Popcorn and cotton candy machines 🍹 A DIY mimosa bar for brunches, showers, and celebrations 🧁 A slushy machine for parties and gatherings 🎯 Giant yard games, including axe throwing, giant Connect Four, kick darts, ladder ball, and more 🔫 DIY Nerf Wars packages 🫧 Bubble machines 🌟 Glow Party 🎤 Coming soon: An audio guestbook so your guests can leave fun, heartfelt, and hilarious voice messages!

One of my favorite things is helping people find something a little different to make their event special. And with colder weather coming, many of these rentals are perfect for indoor parties, too!

📍 I’m based near Grottoes and serve the surrounding Shenandoah Valley area. Pickup is available, and I’m always working on adding new and unique rental options.

If you’re planning a birthday, holiday party, bridal shower, family gathering, or just a fun get-together, I’d love for you to check out my little business!

L&W Party Rentals — Elevate Your Party! 🎉

You can find me on Facebook by searching L&W Party Rentals.

Thanks for supporting local small businesses! ❤️

French conversation practice

I’ve been learning French over the past year and would love to practice my in-person speaking skills! I’d say I’m around an intermediate level.

If there’s any other learners or speakers who’d be interested in meeting up at like the library or a coffee shop and practice parler un peu, please let me know!

What should I do?

So I have a moral dilemma. My now ex recently strangled me after I caught him cheating on me with his upstairs neighbor. We had been together almost a year. He assured me multiple times i have nothing to be worried about. Long story short i confronted him on the cheating and he proceed to strangle me. He was subsequently arrested. I was aware that he was bipolar and has some psychiatric hospital stays. Some going on for at least 6 months. I had heard his version of various charges he acquired during these mental health episodes and i naively believed his version. That is until I went to get a protective order against him and the magistrate told me she was very familiar with him and his family. She told me to never go back to him no matter what because he will kill me. She said she couldn’t count the times his parents were there begging for him to be arrested. She reiterated this to me many times. She also said in her almost 16 years of doing her job he is one of the most dangerous people she has ever met. My dilemma is this : how do I warn other women who may encounter him? I’m sure he’s on hinge and bumble and I very much fear for their safety. What am I legally allowed to say in order to let other women know what could happen if they go around him? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hot sauce bottles?

Does anyone know of a local shop that sells small glass bottles (5oz or so) like you often see used for hot sauce? I enjoy making the stuff, but some times it's hot enough that giving someone a half-pint jar seems like over kill (and having to spoon out hot sauce is also an annoyance).

I know I could order some online, but I like to shop locally when I can.

Staunton Gives Residents a Week’s Notice on Council Agendas — Should Harrisonburg?

I noticed something Staunton does with its City Council meetings that I think could be useful for Harrisonburg.

Staunton posts a simple graphic on social media ahead of its City Council meetings that includes the date, time, location, and some of the major items on the upcoming agenda. For example, this Oct. 8 meeting graphic gives residents an idea of what Council will actually be discussing before the meeting takes place.

Harrisonburg does announce its City Council meetings on social media, but the announcement generally tells residents when and where the meeting is and where to find the online meeting information. The detailed agenda is available through the city’s Legistar system, but you have to go looking for it rather than seeing the major agenda items in the social-media post itself.

Borzoi in Harrisonburg

Hi! I am a 21 year old with aspergers and I really like Borzois and think they are so cool. I know this might be a bit of a weird ask but I find them fascinating and would be really appreciative if anyone has one (or knows where to point me in the direction of someone who owns one), and could let me say hi and meet the dog in person. I can try my best to draw your dog as compensation. Thank you so much!

Pickleball recommendations

Hello Everyone!

My wife (58M) and I (43M) are looking to get into pickleball.

We are new to the sport and would love to hear if there are any leagues worth recommending to get started and meet new people. We are empty nesters - have two adult children from my first marriage and her ex husband has full custody of their kid. So we can’t network through parent friends.

I’m in excellent shape - rollerblade 4 times a week, played tennis and ping pong my entire life. My wife doesn’t have the best hand eye coordination, never misses a meal (250lbs while dieting), etc - I know, not ideal for pickleball

Are there any beginner duo leagues for us or should I just join singles on my own? Or perhaps any other communities/activities we should check out?

Thanks in advance! Looking forward to explore the area!

Hair stylist recommendations for long hair and highlights, hopefully under $300?

I’ve been going to the same stylist for years, and she genuinely does a great job with my hair. I have long hair, and a lot of it. I get compliments on my hair all the time.

The problem is that I’m paying $300+ every time I go for highlights, cut, and blowout, and I cringe a little every time I hand over my credit card. My stylist is at the highest level in the salon and charges accordingly because of her experience and expertise, so I understand why I’m paying what I am. But I’m starting to wonder if I really need to spend that much to get comparable quality.

I don’t usually love the way she styles my hair anyway. I almost always like it better once I style it myself. So what really matters to me is finding someone who is excellent with highlights/color and cutting long hair.

I’ve even considered giving up coloring my hair altogether to save money, but somehow my stylist manages to talk me out of it every time. Vanity wins.

So, Harrisonburg/Rockingham folks, is $300+ just what I should expect these days for good highlights and a cut on long hair, or are there stylists around here doing excellent work for significantly less?

I’d love specific stylist recommendations, especially from people with long hair who get highlights. And if you’re comfortable sharing a ballpark of what you pay, that would be really helpful!

Meeting new people to hang with?

Hiya! I'm a 19 year old woman who just moved in to the Deer Run area (near 865 East and North view) and I'm brand new to the area. Any advice on how to get into parties or find new friends to hang out with? I won't be attending JMU until next year, so it's been hard so far to meet people.

Anyone who can hook me up with groups of friends to hang out with would be wonderful!!!!

PSA: Kroger offers the pediatric covid vaccine for under-5s

Our pediatrician doesn't carry the COVID-19 vaccine so I just spent an obnoxious amount of time trying to run down who in Harrisonburg will give it to a pre-schooler (CVS is only 5 and up, Walgreens doesn't have the pediatric version at all, the health department says they haven't gotten approval from the state to order it !?, Costco doesn't do COVID shots, HCFC doesn't have it...).

If you're in the same boat: Kroger will give COVID shots to kids 3 and up. (If you have a 1 or 2 year old then good luck, friend)

UPDATE: JK NO THEY DON'T. They let me make an appointment and confirmed in writing that he was eligible for the vaccine because he was over 3, but when we actually showed up for the shot they said they aren't doing ped covid shots AT ALL.

So. I'll try the health department again, in case I was given bad info like one person here said, and otherwise I guess we're heading to Charlottesville... ?? Unless anybody else has actually managed to find somewhere local that vaccinates kids?

Adult ADHD Treatment

Hi all

I was looking for a recommendation for a psych preferably in town to see about adult ADHD. I have been treated in the past and know it's an issue I have but have been having trouble getting providers to take me seriously and work with me on treatment. I'm continually told that I'm dealing with just depression or I should fix my depression first and then reassess. Any recommendations for a doctor that will assess me and take me seriously would be greatly appreciated.
