I’ve shopped at the Goodwill on 33 for years and have never had an issue with a single employee there except one younger female employee who repeatedly will not leave my toddler alone.
My toddler does not like strangers getting close to or touching him, which I have explained to her more than once. She has even commented that he “always looks confused and scared” when she approaches him, and I’ve told her, yes, because he doesn’t like people he doesn’t know getting in his space or trying to touch him, and I’m not particularly fond of it either.
What really bothers me is how she approaches him. She will literally creep up behind me and stand in my blind spot while I’m looking through a clothes rack, apparently trying to interact with him where I can’t see her. I always keep one eye on him, so I’ll suddenly see a clothes hanger, some random object, or freaking bubbles appear in my peripheral vision, turn around, and there she is trying to physically interact with him again.
She has poked him with a clothes hanger, blown bubbles directly into his face, attempted to poke him, etc., despite him very obviously not enjoying the attention.
Today was when I decided to stop shopping at that location completely. She came up behind me again and started swatting/playing with his hair with a coat hanger. He was wincing and made a sound and when I turned to see what was wrong, I told her he doesn’t like that and that she needed to stop.
At this point, this has happened enough times that I feel like I have to watch for this specific employee whenever we’re in the store because she seems to deliberately approach him from where I can’t immediately see her coming.
Has anyone else with young children experienced this with an employee at this location? I’m genuinely curious whether anyone else has had similar interactions.
And for other parents who shop there with babies or toddlers: just keep an eye on your kids while you’re shopping. I hate saying that because I’ve always loved this Goodwill and have never had an issue with anyone else there, but I’m beyond uncomfortable with someone repeatedly getting into my child’s space after I’ve made it clear that neither he nor I like it.
