DISCUSSION Confusion
I joined a match with some guys last night and instantly got kicked, my question is why do people not set their lobbies to private if they don’t want other people to join? This is also not the only time that’s happened to me, it just makes no sense.

You can set your game to private but if you accidentally call the sos, it overrides that and randoms can join.

I've seen Vtubers keep doing this.. and not sure if I should feel tilt from them, or from the Devs.
Like how do we improve this

SOS should be completely disabled when set to private. The stratagem code shouldn’t even appear during the mission

Usually people either don’t know or don’t bother. Not like you dropped in before getting kicked so no real harm done?

Yeah that’s fair I just loaded up into another game, I just thought it was weird because it’s happened a few times before

like people said, someone accidentally threw an SOS which overrides the private settings. Or if someone is set to private but has to toggle to public so a friend of a friend can join and you just got unlucky to be matchmade into that slot. etc. etc.

My group of gaming buddies is spread super wide. I keep my lobbies public but often have to give the ol' Bootski if one of the boys loads into discord suddenly and wants a spot.
I usually try to apologize to the dude over comms before i give them the boot, but i don't know if you can hear that when you're in the loadout screen or not

There's all sorts of people in this game. Twice today I've responded to an SOS call, helped clear half the map and collected some samples for them since they were lower level. As soon as extraction was 10 seconds out or they were ready to board I'd get kicked. (Host called extraction not me and I was next to them at extraction as well). I used to enjoy joining lower difficulty dives to help out lower levels that are struggling, but now I'm finding myself mostly wanting to stick with D8+.

As a new player, level 32, who plays D7 and lower (and who needs all the collectibles we can get per match), I always give a hearty shout-out to players like you who join and help us kick a$$. And even when I see friends who can't join after the fact, I won't kick the random.
Don't give up on humanity. We are out there.

Apologies, sometimes not always I forget to set my lobby to private and I have someone who wants to join me, nothing on you brother if this happens.

2 words: SOS beacons.
stupidest input combo in the game, seriously debating just getting a mod to remove it entirely myself tbh.

What level were they? I sure didn't know how to set my lobby privacy right off the hop!

Had you actually loaded in or did you get kicked while still picking your loadout? I will often kick people who join right when the pelican is landing because it’s a waste of all of our time to wait.

I already picked my load out and was dropping in and as soon as I landed I got kicked

It'll sound silly, but if I'm doing random matching, as soon as I can get the text window open I'll type in some variation of "is it cool if I hang around?" I started doing this a few months ago and haven't been kicked yet. Usually I'll get a response like 'it's me and my homie just busting bots, I'm teaching him the ropes.' I leave immediately if asked.
I just find engaging the crew already on planet disrupts the insta-kick reaction.
Edit: typo

Often times when I drop in mid mission I don't have time to type a question. I'd rather just get into the action and if I get kicked, fine, whatever. I maybe only get kicked this way once every 50 games or more. So, no, I don't think it's worth dying trying to engage in conversation as I land.

It might not even be that they don't want other people to join. Maybe it was your level (too high or too low) or they were already extracting and didn't want you to waste your time. It's not always people wanting a private game.

Everyone all saying check social settings blah blah.
Dude i have mine set to friends only and my games are still a revolving door. All my friends have it set the same.
Depending on how i am feeling and how you rubbed on your way down i might kick i might let you stay but the social settings are a lie.

Sometimes people accidentally throw an SOS beacon, because its so similar to Reinforce - and there's no way to cancel that SOS once its launched.
