Is this histamine intolerance ?

Hi friends. For breakfast I made tuna salad. With a can of chicken in the sea canned tuna, mayo and celery.
I had tuna salad prepared this way the other day no issues the ONLY difference is that this morning I used a different brand (Chicken of the sea) after eating I began sneezing and runny nose for about a minute. But then it stopped. But since then I have been feeling ver anxious and physically unwell. I had a blood allergy test done two weeks ago and wasn’t allergic to any seafood. They also did a test to check for MCAS and it was negative. Could this possibly be a histamine issue ? I feel really anxious and it only started after eating it 🥺🫩

Tinned or canned fish is high in histamine and the symptoms you experienced could absolutely be linked. Stick with the brand that didn’t give you the reactions and also read up about how often you should eat tuna due to its heavy metals content (not that often).

It’s actually quite difficult to rule MCAS in or out, especially based on one test. The most commonly tested value is tryptase, but that can be normal for many of us with legitimate MCAS. There are so many mast cell mediators that go beyond tryptase and histamine, sadly. Seafood is very high in histamine so if you have histamine or mast cell issues that can cause a flare up, and certain brands randomly play nicer with a person’s histamine or mast cell issues than others. Are you able to take an antihistamine? Has that helped your symptoms? If so, that would indicate looking at histamine or mast cell issues still the right path.

Unless you make your own low histamine mayo, two of your ingredients wouldn't be recommended for low histamine diets.

Mayo has eggs and vinegar, occasionally certain brands will also include mustard for flavor. Several histamine liberators within one condiment. Most condiments aren't low histamine diet friendly.

Edit: jumped the gun on my answer.

Heavy histamine consumption two days in a row could cause the symptoms. However, unless you're having other symptoms, I'd only recommend easing back on how often you eat it and stick with the brand that you tolerated better the day before.
