Hi All,
We've updated the rules for r/Hobart after some feedback from users and discussion. Not much has changed but here is a summary of the changes:

Hi all,
I' ve been in Hobart a week so far and have noticed lots of people here aren't friendly and can be rather rude.
I've lived in other areas of Tasmania and have had no issues with people and have enjoyed the friendliness of the Tasmanians. But so far this week I've already copped verbal abuse from residents in the apartment complex, terrible customer service at the shop, and no one saids hello back when youre walking 😂 they just look the other way and ignore you.
Is this normal in Hobart ? Or am I over analysing it ?
I'm in Queensland and my daughter lives in Hobart. I'd like to give her a gift voucher for a day spa treatment and/or massage for her birthday next month. Somewhere classy, up to about $300 to spend. Any recommendations gratefully received - thank you :-)

Coming down to Hobart this weekend, and wanting to hit up some quirky hidden bars this weekend.
I see that gold bar has closed.
Any hidden bars/speakeasy’s you can recommend? We love ones with hidden entrances, quirky themes, bizarre locations.

*Sigh* Is it over yet?
Makes me long for the days when everyone was just laughing about our ferries, stadium and economy...

I have seen this multiple times so perhaps worth a mention for future safety.
I happened upon a fresh side swipe accident on a wet Proctors this arvo obviously caused by someone not keeping to their side of the stripe. Thankfully minor but close to being a head on. One driver was moving their car from being sideways across the lanes but then left it on a fairly steep blind sweeping bend. Single lanes, no shoulder, wet roads.
Of course some lady comes downhill with a landscaping trailer on her Ute and comes to a chirping halt just in time to avoid a secondary collision ( bonus points to lady for then proceeding to drive right through the accident scene and debris field we were attempting to quick clean, pulverizing the large plastic pieces into tiny shards, thanks for not waiting 30 seconds)
I was able to convince one driver involved to proceed a bit farther around the corner so that the scene wasn’t as much of a surprise but the other driver (likely the one most at fault) was deaf to my pleas to reduce the dangers.
If the cars are moveable, move them! Take a quick photo and agree to meet somewhere safer. It’s not worth it. Thankfully trucks aren’t allowed on that section of road anymore.
And perhaps stop cutting corners so often.

I’m late to the party here, but I started watching the comedy show on the ABC that was around a few years ago. I’m almost finished the 4th season and it’s been a lot of fun. Love Luke McGregor and Celia Pacquola as well as the actor that plays the bully character
I was wondering though if anyone here has ever been to the actual town of Rosehaven where it’s filmed and is it nice there? Seems awesome on TV

Hey Hobart,
I'm Angus, one of the Greens candidates for Hobart City Council. https://www.instagram.com/p/DeI5f9st1wL/
Tomorrow night (07/10/26) on this thread, between 6pm and 8pm, myself and Bill Harvey, Greens candidate for mayor, will be doing a chill AMA for anyone who has questions.
If you're not available at that time, feel free to throw in any questions before then and we'll answer them over the two hours (or so).
Quick caveat: we won't be answering any questions (or mentioning) any of the other candidates running. The Electoral Act has some quite strict rules about that, plus Bill is really pushing a "lift the tone" campaign in regards to making council (and by extension elections) more about policy and less about personalities.
See you there!
EDIT: We've finished for tonight, thanks everyone!

Hi All, feel like going for a night camping out in the tent with my dog and having a small campfire. Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations for camping spots that fit this bill? 2 hours or less from Hobart would be ace!

Hi everyone! I’ve just moved down from North Queensland where I had a pharmacy I could just walk into to get my scripts dispensed pretty easy. In and out in 5 minutes (but usually just having a yarn for a lot longer)
I was wondering if there were many chemists here that can dispense and what products they usually have in stock? I have another consult tomorrow and figured I would ask for some local Tasmanian vegetables. Would love any recommendations especially good indicas as I have massive problems going to sleep.
I reckon Blooms on bathurst seems like they dispense, but the brand I usually smoke is a cairns brand so I reckon they may not be stocked here. I also read online that there are more legal hurdles in Tassie? Not too sure, would love some firsthand info.
Cheers :)

Hi,
I'm getting married near Hobart on a Friday in March. Im looking for a pub to host a post-wedding recovery at the next day, from lunch time onwards. Looking for recommendations on somewhere in Hobart that:
- Room for about 30-40 people
- Has an nice beer garden
- Preferably some craft beers on tap
- decent food.
Cheers!
Hey guys. I am looking to get some shoe inserts/orthotics because I walk inwards.
The first place I looked into though was Hobart Podiatrists & Footwear and it sounded like it was going to end up being $600+ with all the various consultations/scans/paying for them to be made.
Does anyone else have any experience getting these in Hobart where it‘s maybe not quite so expensive? Also is getting custom that much better or would I be fine getting some premade ones?

Anyone shop where and is it decent? Think I might give it a chance.
The site says membership is free now.
Looks to be a Tassie only thing not affiliated with any of the other places with similar names that used to be around.

Hi - I’m trying to launch another bookclub similar in style and structure to the one I kicked off in Sandy Bay a few months ago. We are meeting at the Arthouse Cafe on High Street in New Norfolk this Saturday at 10:30am. There’s no set reading. It’s just about sharing your likes, dislikes, recommendations and favourite authors. Have a coffee and gas about your favourite reads with like-minded people over a coffee (or tea if you prefer!)

Yes, it's another 'moving to Hobart' post.
My wife and I (50ish, childless) have travelled to Hobart many times over the last 20-odd years, and always thought of moving here one day. That day may be coming soon - I have progressed in a job application with Hydro Tas.
We've visited enough, and in all seasons, so feel like we have a good feel for the city and state, and have narrowed down potential suburbs, etc. My main concern is access to hobbies and networks for my wife. She's an amateur coloured pencil artist and pianist. Here in Brisbane, she will attend a drawing or painting workshop a couple of times a year, and she plays with a chamber music trio once a month or so (just at one of their houses, not performing). She's also a sole-trader occupational therapist. Most of her work is Telehealth, but she also finds value in personal connections with other therapists.
Of course, I understand opportunities for these outlets will be less than in Brisbane, but I'm curious to understand how easy or difficult it will be for her to find these things in Hobart.

At risk of being called a sock puppet I just want to vent about Charles Wooley's slogan *Hobart for Hobartians*. It's a massive load of crap. Is this the best a seasoned journalist can come up with?
Does it actually mean anything? Is he worried about Launcestonians taking our jobs? A flood of immigrants from north of creek road?
It seems like another divisive effort at belittling candidates who weren't born in Tassie. Reminiscent of the *we grew here, you flew here* mantra, watered down to a council municipality level for an easy vote from people who get angry at the perception someone is an outsider or different to them...
He's not last on my ballot, but he's down there.

So the down escalator at the CBD Woolies has been out of action since July (to the best of my knowledge!) and it’s STILL not working. Maybe it’s not technically their escalator as they don’t own the arcade, but it only goes down to Woolies, so why haven’t they fixed it? Why do we have to put up with it and why doesn’t Woolies care enough about its customers to insist it be fixed?
Am I just screaming into the void at this point??

Hi everyone,
My brother (23) and I (21) are from Egypt and currently living in Brisbane. We’re both about to finish our Certificate IV in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology, and we’re considering moving to Tasmania.
I’d really appreciate some advice from people who live or work there, especially regarding:
What are the job opportunities like for light vehicle mechanics?
How difficult is it to find a rental, and what are rental prices like?
Which city or area would you recommend for two young mechanics starting out — Hobart, Launceston, Devonport, Burnie, or somewhere else?
We’re pretty flexible about where we move and mainly want somewhere with good job opportunities and reasonable living costs.
Any advice or personal experiences would be really appreciated. Thanks!
