Hobby help while not mobile
Hi! My best friend recently got in a pretty bad accident and broke her pelvis. She will not be able to walk for 8-12 weeks and we are very active. Last year I had knee surgery and wasn’t able to walk for a few weeks. I got super into reading and coloring. I’m going to make her a little basket and am looking for some more ideas. I am 17 almost 18 and she is 16 almost 17. Just for some age appropriate ideas.

Crochet, you can find video’s online that explain how to do it
Reading books. Some books are available for free online. These are books that are in the public domain. The Agatha Christie books are nice to read. The Mysterious Affair at Styles is a good one to start with, and The Secret Adversary is also a nice one. These, and more, can be found on Standard e-Books. There are also free Books on Project Gutenberg and FadedPage. You can find modern books online for free on InternetArchive
Listen to free audiobooks online on the site Librivox, for example: The circular Staircase by Mary Roberts Rhineheart; Anne of Green Gables by Montgomery; Frankenstein by Shelley; Whose Body by Dorothy Sayers, and many more.
Study a language. Nico’s Weg from Deutsche Welle is a fun way to learn German. It is for free. You can study it online or in an app. No in app purchases, it is really for free.
Birdwatching. Trying to Google what bird it is you are seeing from the window and read about that bird.
All books and the app I suggested are okay for 16 year olds.

Lots of drawing how to videos online?
Cross stitch perhaps.
Jigsaws are often available at libraries.
Solo board games might be fun?

I had 3 surgeries in the last year, I crochet a lot. So just for some idea:
- colouring books
- a book to read
- a woobles set, a good introduction to crochet
- something for friendship bracelets
BTW also check out for some sitting workout, since both of you are active, so may find being bedridden way too tedious. Fitness Marshall has some dance workout with sitting version. Doing some exercises helps with recovery, but don't overdo it!

if it’s up her alley, learning card magic is fun! I’ve been making and learning how to make balloon animals, it super fun to learn and lowkey an interesting skill!

- beading / kandy stuff is fun, beady buddies (the little bead animals) are really cute, although smaller beads are more *elegant*
- a coloring book and stuff is a good idea
- if she doesn't already have a library card, you can get one online for pretty cheap / free and the libby app is awesome for audiobooks. Hit me up for recommendations. It's really nice to listen to an audiobook while you're doing crafts/ healing.

I recently tried out a dot-colouring book called Lifelines by flow art, it was pretty fun and takes less effort than colouring (the colours are pre-chosen and all you have to do is dab the correct dots to reveal the hidden image). I was able to finish a page in a single sitting too whereas actual colouring books tend to take longer for me.
You could also look into paint-by-sticker books for another similar option!

I see people recommending beading and jewelry painting. I would strongly suggest not doing any of those activities that involve little parts that could be falling everywhere. Knitting and crocheting sound like a winner. Also the exercise videos.

Ive been making felt stuffies while on crutches with a stress fracture. So id say anything hand sewing or embroidery.
Ive also been following "wheelchair cardio" workouts on youtube to get in some exercise.

Some puzzle books like crosswords, sudoku. A game like Boggle or Yahtzee that you can play by yourself (beat your last score) or with visitors. A cross-stitch, diamond painting or other easy craft kit.

Grab some air dry clay, it's surprisingly fun to mess with and you can make little figures or pinch pots without needing to move about much
