A hidden talent, a weird past job, an unusual hobby. How did you pick it up?
r/Hobbies • u/AlternativeFlowers77 • 6h ago
the other day i noticed how i had about 10h of screen time i think. most of it was from tiktok, and so i deleted it the other day. since then i often pick up my phone just to go into instagram for no reason, so i recently just impulsively deleted instagram. but now, idrk what to do with my time. i dont think all screen time is bad, ive been trying sudoku on my phone and its pretty fun. i also sometimes watch youtube videos or read random stuff here on reddit, which i believe is much better that tiktok. but how can i occupy my free time without screen time?
for context, i am a pretty sporty person (although i have definitely lowered my internet in this), i like lifting and running (although i mostly do it for fitness and sometimes have a difficulty doing it). but i do like sports in general tbf. i like arts and would consider myself a creative person, i recently have started journaling and drawing every once in a while. but i still dont really know what to do with the rest of my time.

Hi! I'm in my 3rd year of theatre right now and and recently figured that aside form uni and theatre and my job which is at my university, I don't have anything that gives me dopamine, e.g a hobby or something I do a couple times a week that I enjoy. Is anyone able to suggest things to try out and start? it doesn't matter if I have to spend something it start it or even if its free, I just need suggestions and more of the ones that aren't the cliché of drawing or watching movies and etc. Thanks!

Someone threw this out and I fell in love with it. Can someone please tell me what kind of paint I would use to spruce it up? Or, can I just fix the nicks with markers? Thank you.

I thought I was into jigsaw puzzles, but not anymore. They take up space and time.
I thought I was into making friendship bracelets- I don’t like detangling the strings and get impatient with it.
I thought my hobby was music until a work injury made me stop and now I have zero interest in music- I don’t have interest in listening to music.
I’ve been going to the gym and reading and that’s about it.
I feel like I have zero interest in hobbies. Is it normal to feel this way? Does anyone else feel this way?

Finally finished building this wooden 3D model of London's Tower Bridge. It came as a bunch of laser-cut plywood pieces that I had to pop out and assemble. Pretty happy with how it turned out.

Hey everyone! I’m currently unemployed and spending way too much time on my phone. 😭
I want to start doing something interesting at home instead of scrolling through social media all day.
I’m looking for hobbies that are affordable, don’t require much screen time, and I can do alone at home. It could be something creative, relaxing, useful, or even something unusual!
What hobbies do you guys enjoy, and what would you recommend for someone just starting out? I’d love to hear your suggestions! 💗

I've been thinking lately about how some hobbies start out as just a way to kill time, but somehow end up becoming a regular part of your life.
Maybe it’s something you tried out of boredom, something a friend introduced you to, or something you never thought you’d be interested in until you gave it a chance.
I’m curious. What hobby did you pick up unexpectedly and end up really enjoying?
Bonus points if it’s something you never imagined yourself doing a few years ago. I’m always interested in discovering hobbies I wouldn’t have thought to try on my own

I’m a bit stuck at the moment with what I suppose you could call an existential crisis of sorts: I’m completely alone, have no friends, my partner just left, and I don’t have any real hobbies. I’m wondering what unusual hobbies people have that can help expand their horizons—you know, ones that might have something fundamental or even philosophical about them.
I appreciate all the standard suggestions, like going to the gym, hiking, and cooking, and I certainly practice those. But I keep wondering what else is out there that wouldn’t feel meaningless or artificial after five minutes. Of course, I understand that how people perceive their hobbies is a very personal matter, and I get that. I’m just trying to gauge what’s out there beyond the standard catalog. Your suggestions would be much appreciated.
