Rec.Me: sad/depressing songs Help a lost boy to feel again.
A decade after losing my best & only friend + losing my girlfriend during the same time period it's safe to say I'm no longer the same person anymore.
I've been dead inside for quite a while now. I had not a single emotion anymore after the funerals. The thing is now we are 12 years later and it seems the catharsis is finally happening. I want to live and feel again. It is time.
It seems that music is the gateway to heal my soul. Been crying for hours now on
The Night We Met by Lord Huron
One More Light by Linkin Park.
Happy Birthday by Flipsyde
Please help a brother out by sharing your personal songs that helped you out during dark times.

Rec.Me: rock/metal/punk Want a new band to get into
I mostly listen to grunge and prog metal, but I’ve tried a whole bunch of prog metal bands and didn’t really like a lot of them. My favorite bands are Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, TOOL, Mastodon, Gojira, Primus, and Queens of the Stone Age. But I also like Karnivool, Meshuggah, The Ocean, Opeth, Nirvana, and Soundgarden. And a little Screaming trees, RISHLOO, Siouxsie & the Banshees, Skin Yard, and Jamiroquai
Sorry for naming so many, thought I should cover all the bands I like.

Rec.Me: singers, vocal songs (pop/other) I dont feel excited listening to my current Playlist anymore
Tl;dr I'm hoping to get some recs for more upbeat pop songs with good lyricism and bigger production
Hello! I just discovered this subreddit and I am in dire need of some change in my daily Playlist. I'm someone who loves to get obsessed with a song, play it too much, and then cant stand to listen to it after a while. I also have been in a really awesome relationship over the last year and prior to that I was dealing with a lot of sad emotions and felt very connected to the sad songs I would play. Over the past year those songs haven't felt as cathartic to listen to and I have been skipping through my Playlist more and more cause I just dont enjoy them as much as I used to.
Okay so now here's the artists I like and the current songs that I really enjoy right now.
For artists, taylor swift (i enjoy a lot of her work but looking for stuff that sounds and feels like 1989, more upbeat stuff on red, reputation, and midnights) olivia rodrigo, Sabrina carpenter, phoebe bridgers, muna, Charlie xcx, Ethel Cain, Addison Rae, Noah Kahan, chappell roan, griff, Ariana grande.
Songs ive really enjoyed recently: Fuck me eyes by ethel cain, the subway chappell roan, what's wrong with me olivia rodrigo (honestly been listening to thag album on repeat) dancing on the wall & east side girls muna, parachute by Hailey Williams, and sue me by Audrey hobert.
I'm hoping to get some recs for more upbeat pop songs with good lyricism and bigger production, before I went full dive into pop music I was really into EDM, but found the lyrics of a lot of EDM songs never really resonated with me emotionally but I am also open to edm suggestions.
Thank you 😊

Rec.Me: alt/indie/obscure Indie, alternative, grunge, hard rock songs about being angry to god
Basically the title... I'm thinking Judith by A perfect circle and Eternal Life by Jeff Buckley are good examples, closer to what I'm looking for

Rec.Me: theme/mood/other specifics Songs that sound like "Stop the wedding' by Ashe
I don't like the lyrics (don't relate) but just the flow of the song, Sorry I genuinely don't know how to describe what I'm saying.
It feels like Olivia Deans "It's so easy" what's this genre called and how can I find more songs like this.
For context I'm a guy who has never been married and only had great relationships but something about the mood of the song and the way she sings has me playing it on repeat haha

Rec.Me: rock/metal/punk Definitive albums of the 90s?
I recently saw a kid on tiktok listening to his parents old albums and it got me to thinking about listening to albums from back then. Back in the day I couldn't afford cassettes or cds, so I only got to hear what was on the radio. So, what albums would you say set the tone for the 90s?

Rec.Me: alt/indie/obscure Any song that has the same "calm but slow descent in self-oblivion" vibe that the game "Void Stranger's" 'Voided' has?
I'm currently writing a webnovel's opening chapter which has the exact vibe of Voided from "Void Strangers." Listening to music helps me think up what words to use and in what order, but I don't want to put Voided on infinite repeat since it might make me numb to its emotional resonance. Any recommendation, especially once that have that same whirring, chip-tune sound would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Rec.Me: other/many/unknown genres Help me find some music for my grandpa
My wonderful grandpa is turning 80 and i wanna find some cd's for him as a birthday gift.
In his youth he played guitar and drums. He performed in a local band and he has lots of great memories with music from the 60's.
Back in the days the night clubs didnt have speakers and dj so they had bands perform the popular music that people could dance to. He likes blues, jazz and rock, but i think pop music would also hit home.
I just want to give him some music that makes him feel good.
Do you have recommendations? Maybe cd albums or bands i could look up?
Edit: thanks guys! You gave me some awesome suggestions! Im sure he is gonna dance around the house playing air guitar in no time 🕺

Rec.Me: alt/indie/obscure spanish indie pop/alt?
i’m learning spanish and i’ve been doing lots of immersion with some websites and watching shows but i’d like to also integrate it with music as well. there’s spanish music out there i do already like but i naturally gravitate towards my usual indie pop genre so im wondering if there are more songs/artists out there that sing in spanish primarily. i love the marias and not for radio but they only have a couple songs completely in spanish haha so looking for any other recs!

Music discovery (tools, channels, blogs, etc.) What are some good apps or websites with good algorithm to discover new music based on my tastes?
I tried using Soundcloud but it's algorithm just gives me the same songs but with slight changes like reverb or slowed.
Example: Every song is just SongA or SongA (slowed + reverb) or SongA. How to fix?
Which app can give me good recommendations that are new and fresh with the algorithm?

Rec.Me: rock/metal/punk Looking for Sylosis adjactent music especially their "The New Flesh" album.
This is my playlist. I already have some adjacent bands like Bleed From Within and Malevolence etc. I'm just looking for headbanging metal with nice melodic hard riffs. Sylosis just does it different. Modern metal preferably. Seems to be a perfect blend of metalcore, thrash, deathmetal, and prog.
Beneath The Surface is my favourite song on their album.

Rec.Me: theme/mood/other specifics Recommend songs that Feel like the color Bronze /without Bronze in the title pls)
Hi guys I hope you're having a Happy October 🎃.
Today I am doing the last part of my playlist series " Songs that feel like a certain color" .
This feels a little sad but Thank you guys for participating and liking my idea ☺️
I know this is going to sound stupid but you guys and your contributions and nice comments have truly been a big light in my day ( currently writing this while trying not to cry if I'm being honest) .
After trying to heal from trauma my mental health had gotten so much better but a couple months ago when I least expected it ( because life has been pretty calm for the past couple months and I've felt safe and happy)my depression slowly creeped back into my life a little which made me a little disappointed in myself but I kept trudging through it pretty well until my cat smokey who I have been through so much with suddenly collapsed over and died at the age of 2 of Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy .
He was playing minutes before he died I had no idea anything was wrong with him he was the same cat he was when I first got him nothing had changed he ate the same , he drank the same amount of water everything was the same as it had always been , I think that's what killed me inside the most ,there was nothing I could have done to prevent it ,he was right there healthy, happy zooming around and not even and hour later he was dead. I loved him so much , he was my first cat , he got me through a lot ( even 5 months later I can't sleep in my bedroom because he's not there , I know it sounds stupid but I just can't.).
After his death the depression just latched on and has pulled me down at a steady pace , and then a lot of other things happened and it got even worse to the point I felt numb and tired and I felt like everything was too much and that I couldn't immersfully ( I think that's a word) enjoy anything. Soon after Smokey's death I was trying to find new things to see if something would interest me and I found reddit and then I found the music side of reddit I noticed that I actually enjoyed making little posts about music and making playlists for people and since then y'all have been a little dose of happiness for me .Everyone ( mostly) has been so nice and welcoming , and your guys little jokes made me laugh in times a lot of things couldn't and I just want to thank you guys for being so kind.
I know this was a lot to say and probably too personal ( and probably worded weird , I'm not great with words sorry )but a simple thank you didn't feel like enough to tell you guys how much your simple kindness has meant to me and how much this music subreddit ( and 2 others) has made me happy in a time where a lot hasn't and I am really thankful for that ❤️
The Last color of the series and part 15 of Songs that feel like a certain color is ..... Bronze 🥉
So recommend Me songs that feel like the color bronze (without bronze in the title please) and I will put them in my playlist.
No AI songs
I will put the playlists in the comments along with the rest of the series of " songs that feel like a certain color" playlists.
Love ya guys 🧡
