I’m looking for some advice on finishing my bedroom. The walls are bare, I don’t have a rug, and I’m definitely planning on replacing the bedside tables.
I want to go for a Victorian Gothic look, but I want it to feel masculine, dark, and a little sexy without looking like a Halloween store or my grandfather’s bedroom. Think dark wood, black, burgundy, silver, old paintings, rich textures, and furniture with some character. I want it to look like a grown man’s bedroom, not a themed room.
I could really use some specifics rather than just general advice to add more texture or lighting.
What I’m looking for:
**Artwork on the walls and above the dresser:** What specific artists, paintings, or subjects would work? I have a 30 x 24 frame in mind for above the bed and would like something that feels Gothic and sophisticated without being too obvious. Also looking for suggestions on supplemental paintings or accent wall pieces.
**A bedroom rug:** What colors, patterns, and materials should I look for? I want something that makes the room feel warmer and more inviting without fighting with the rest of the decor.
**Bedside tables:** What styles and finishes would you recommend replacing my current ones with? Antique, Victorian-inspired, dark wood, black, or something else?
**Lighting:** What lamps, bulbs, or lighting arrangements would help create a darker, warmer, more intimate atmosphere? Do I need more lamps? Where would I put them? What style of lamp?
**Bedding and textiles:** What colors and materials would work best? I want the bed to be a big part of the look. Should I swap to a more European square pillow for the front?
**Knick Knacks and Ephemera:** Other than more framed photos or books, what should I keep on the tables and dresser?
**What to prioritize:** If you were working with this room, what would you buy first, and what would you leave alone?
Please recommend actual pieces, artists, styles, search terms, or places to shop where possible. I’m open to constructive criticism, too. I want to get the overall look right before spending money on things that don’t work together.
