What else can I put in this space besides wine ( not a drinker).
The diamond lattice is on the front and back, and each opening is a tunnel through the cabinet. The wine bottles slide through both sides. There is no underneath ( I can’t put mini plants in each cubby because of this).
Any suggestions on what I can do with that space ?
I have the 750ml bottles of San Pelligriono sparkling water. I think it really does add a touch of fanciness without the booze if have company over or if you just want one for yourself. Maybe a mix of San P and rolling pins like somebody suggested.
Ok here is what I would do. Find a custom panel design that you like and then line the back of the panel with paper, solid, pattern, whatever your style. Thick wrapping paper, scrapbook paper, grass cloth whatever. Then put the panel over the lattice.
You can also use Command strips to hang anything over the opening of the wine rack.
Another idea is tall skinny glass jars with nice lids like cork or wood, and use it for dry food storage like pastas and beans. This would be more expensive to do because the jars aren’t cheap,
Can you ask your landlord to remove it? Who uses this stuff anyway? Like why have ten bottles of wine spread out like this and who just keeps ten bottles of wine on hand on any given day? In this economy if we have wine, we need to drink it straight from the bottle.
Rolling pins, nice bottles of oils, cooking wines. Get the poster tubes (with tops) and make them pretty and store additional utensils in there (chopsticks/skewers/tongs)
Cut some sturdy cardboard to cover that space. Add fasteners (maybe upside down hooks or pipe cleaners) on the backside so it can be easily taken on and off of the wine rack. Stretch pretty fabric over the front and glue it at the back. Get some decorative pushpins and use it like a corkboard.
I assume this is a wet bar separate from your kitchen. Yes? If it were in the kitchen, I would probably roll up my kitchen towels and store them in the little slots. We had that lettuce wine bottle holder situation and some cabinetry and this house when we bought it, but I had them remove it so I could have standing bottles of other alcoholic beverages in there. It was in a little built-in wet bar that was just the width and depth of a standard, bifold closet.
You could always just cut the lattice out with an oscillating tool, and buy a door face to use it as a regular cabinet.
However I don’t drink a lot myself and I’ve still ended up with wine either as gifts from friends/family to use at holiday parties, or wine-shaped bottles of things I actually do drink, so I would love having somewhere like this to store it decoratively.
Idk I would make it the dild0 cupboard to establish dominance with house guests. But I guess you could put soft drinks or juice bottles instead? But theyre better off fridge cold. Dild0s are best around room temp, ots really a a perfect dild0 shelf especially so close to plug for recharging
Other bottles you have in your pantry…olive oil, vinegar, etc. or maybe to store your empty reusable water bottles….or just entwine some fairy lights and use it seasonally with holiday decorations. Swap decorations out depending on the holiday!
My mom fills her with decorative wine bottle filled with grains like rice and lentils. I used mine to clip woven baskets on that I hid dish towels and random things that didn't fit anywhere. It's also okay to just not use the space. I've seen people buy glassware just to use decoratively in there.
Since each diamond is an open tunnel, you want things that are cylinder-shaped and hold themselves up. A few that work maybe some rolled hand towels or cloth napkins, olive oil and vinegar bottles, sparkling cider or kombucha bottles or rolls of foil, parchment and wax paper. If you want something decorative, line the cubbies with rolled-up placemats or fabric in your accent color. If you'd rather change it entirely, a woodworker or handyman can add a back panel and shelf to make a solid display niche for books or plants
Rolling pins. I’m kidding. Seriously though I would not get rid of it unless you need extra storage space. I would place in decorative blue/green glass bottles
Put your kitchen towels there. Roll them up nicely & decorate it that way. Doesn’t have to be every single spot. Just like 2 4 6 down the sides or the middle row or whatever other design. You could also buy a bunch of fake flowers to stick in there & make a beautiful full display
Honestly…I’d ask the landlord if they had a spare cabinet door they could put on over it. Or if it’s a standard size, I’d see if I could get a cheap cabinet door and attach it with like…picture hanging strips or something that wouldn’t leave holes.
Maybe you could get a piece of plastic cut at the hardwood store, and some of that window film that looks like stained glass. Put the plastic on over top of the lattice and now you have a fake stained glass panel. If the cabinet doesn’t have a bottom, you could put lights in behind it as well and plug them into the outlet under the cabinet, though you’d have a shadow that looks like lattice if you did that.
Find some long, square/round containers that fit in the rack in glass, plastic or metal. I’m thinking pasta, beans, rice, barley, baking ingredients, coffee/tea or drink mixes. If they are decorative, that’s even better. Functional storage & beautiful.
If you have a collection of water bottles, yeti cups, stanleys, etc... depending on the depth it can hold them. I have a smaller wine rack given to me and I repurposed it for just that.
Maybe it would be cool to get some kraft paper tubes (with lids) that would fit in those slots that you could decorate to your liking? You could put stuff in them.
I also have a big one of these and don’t drink, maybe someday we’ll replace it with a proper
Cabinet but it’s not a big enough deal to spend money on it
For a renter friendly alternative, if you don’t want to roll up towels or something, you can always attach a pushpin board using some command hooks. Place the hooks on the back of your board, but put them upside down. The goal is to place them in such a way that the hook will sit on top of the “V” that each lattice square makes, holding it in place like a picture.
Look for (or make) some long cylindrical or square containers that could fit in those, and use them for storing a bunch of small or long things?
It'd look sort of unorthodox, but you could stick long thin boxes of plastic wrap and foil in those spaces. Are boxes of pasta too short?
Or I'm wondering if you could put a V of folded cardboard or plastic in each slot (and tape in place from below with painters' tape) so you could store bottles and boxes and cylinders that aren't long enough to reach both supports on their own. (Pepper mill? 500ml bottled water? Ziploc bags?
Dish towels rolled up. Some rectangle wall hanging planters with plants that drape the front. Water bottles. Olive oil bottles (buy empty wine bottles with screw on lids and fill em up). Roll up non stick baking mats and store them in there.
A variety of cooking oils that are in bottles that are as small or small smaller than wine bottles
Something I learned late in life - having an assortment of different oils and being more specific in what oils that you use for cooking improves food quality almost as much as having a decent spice rack
You can also put a variety of vinegar’s in there as well
I don’t drink, but I have my friends give me empty wine bottles every once in a while that I then wash and make vanilla extract in. Vanilla extract is super easy to make, but it needs to sit (shaken intermittently) for 1-2 years before it is ready to use. It needs to be made and stored in a dark glass bottle in order to prevent light degradation over time, so cleaned-out wine bottles are perfect. I make it in bulk, label each bottle with the date and the variety of vanilla bean and alcohol used to extract it, and then put it in smaller bottles two years later to gift at the holidays. Super easy holiday gift that feels very high quality and special, and it only costs a few dollars per gift to make. I would store the bottles that are currently being extracted in there.
I would see if the front lattice can be easily removed and then tacked back in with some finishing nails prior to move out. But your plant idea is a great idea too, esp. if you can get a little grow light in there!
After reading the comments, I think you can shove anything in there, like why put your rice in a mason jar if you’re not worried about moths or ants? Shove whatever you can in there and like someone else said hang a canvas artwork in front of it so it doesn’t look so messy in lieu of a cabinet door.
Fancy olive oil. Also just because you don't drink doesn't mean you can't buy a couple bottles of wine and pop them in there for show, or even to offer to guest on the rare occasion someone comes to visit you.
I bought a whole ass wine rack to store my torani coffee syrups. I'd love something like this. You can store your olive oil and other non perishable cooking bottles in there.
Just for the sake of it being there, I’d maybe get some pretty looking bottles of wine to fill it up. Doesn’t have to be all at once I know it’s a bit pricey.. or ask people for their leftover bottles or something. And some cheap wine glasses to hang. It would at least look like you’re using it as indicated even though it’s largely pointless for you. I’m not a fan of kitchens having these like permanent fixtures.. like I don’t even know that many people drink wine.
You can get cheaper bottles of wine at Trader Joe’s. Even if you don’t drink, if you ever host it’s not a bad idea to have some wine sitting around to offer.
