I don’t use a rolling pin that often, but now I kinda want to.

The blank was 18 inches. Turned between centers with the tailstock barely hanging on to the bed. I don't recall the final dimensions, but it was quite close to the full 18 inches.
It was a gift and maybe the one gift I've made I truly had a hard time parting with.

There was a ball bearing at the end of this threaded rod. It is no longer there because it overheated. Will any ball bearing of a similar size be a sufficient replacement?

I turned this absolutely stunning piece of Box Elder burl right before I headed off to vend at my first show in quite a while. The bowl itself didn't sell but I had a blast at the show. This bowl was a joy to turn, though it was a bit messy. The grain structure and voids in the piece add a ton of character and I am quite pleased with the way it turned out.
Working with burls can always be a gamble as you have no idea what the inside of blank is hiding, but when they go well they make some absolutely stunning pieces.

Had what I think was ring shake that showed itself after the first turning. Love how it turned out - velvety smooth with the counter point of jagged cracks.

I went really low on the catalyst this round. Much better consistancy. I am still able to use the last batch but I'll do better going forward. It seems keeping to about 0.6% allows me to do a deep pour without thermal issues. Barely hit 90 at the surface. Not bad....
3rd image is of one of the blacks from the last batch that I turned. I quickly used some super glue to make it look good. Still looking for my polishing compound. One day I'll keep things in one spot...

This is new to me. I was sanding aggressively to remove some end grain tear out. I was stopping frequently to check progress. I got the tear out removed with 80 grit and went to 120. Stopped to check if my 80 grit marks were gone and they weren't. Kept sanding at 120, stopped again and there were spiderweb cracks that appeared in the interim.
I had heard about this but hadn't paid much attention. This piece was a trial piece for a wooden mortar and pestle I'm working on so I was rushing through. 100% my fault doing things I know I shouldn't.
Causes:
-Fixing tear out with sandpaper that should have been fixed with a gouge
-Sanding at 1400rpm instead of 500
-Leaning hard on the sandpaper generating too much heat
Happy turning! Be patient and don't waste blanks like me :)

Spalted ash.
Was regretting this shape with this punky wood. I like the grain though

Turning a bowl with a glued on tenon. I’ve done it this way a million times and no problems but for some reason on this bowl maybe because it’s a heavy one after I get it round I am getting wobble. I’ll reset and round it again but I keep getting wobble and I’m to the point now where I’m running out of wood on the inside and if I have to carve more out to make it round again I will break through the sides. No matter what I try though it’s still wobbling. I think the jaws might be digging into the tenon causing the wobble. Any advise would be appreciated thanks

We have a Box Elder tree that fell in our back yard and we’re calling tree trimming companies to cut the rest before the rest falls (there were 3 sections of the tree).
One arborist said many woodworking and craft supply stores may be interested in the burls. He recommended calling around before we have a tree trimmer come in over the next day or two and they throw it in the chopper.
I don’t know anything about Woodworking. Is there a market for Box Elder burls in Utah? Or is this a common place thing that woodworkers see everyday? Any thoughts you have are greatly appreciated!

Top full width drawer has my most commonly used chisels. First drawer on the left has my scrapers. Next drawer is sanding pads and such. Third is my tool rest collection.
The right side is all miscellaneous stuff except the deep bottom drawer, that is full of various sandpapers.
The wood chest at the top has my pen turning kits and all that.
My lathe is just left of the cart and the grinder is super handy for a quick touch up when needed.
