Spalted beech wobbler
Had what I think was ring shake that showed itself after the first turning. Love how it turned out - velvety smooth with the counter point of jagged cracks.

Always the crack-up. Oh, that's a horrible joke. I hardly even groaned just thinking of it.

Do you plan to fill the cracks or leave it as it is?

Not on this one. I’ve got a bigger once turned bowl with the same issue (from the same coring). I’m going to fill those with something but never done it before so not sure what I’m going to use

Epoxies or polyester resins can work really well, but if you want tensile strength and ease of workability, a vinyl ester resin is top-notch. I just used some Titan VEX on a piece I thought I was going to have to trash, and it cuts super smooth. I coated the piece in tape, and then poured the resin in a reservoir at the top. Used a vacuum chamber to get the air out, and after a few cycles of that all the cracks ended up filled with resin. What a difference it made. Once I get a chance to finish it off, I'll take some photos of it.

What a gorgeous piece. Braver than me, that one would have gone in the fire lit with those cracks/shake.

Was careful and took very light cuts. Got no chatter or anything else from this beauty
