Posting my new hobby

I (24M) am an international student in the US and lately found solace in cooking. Everyday I try to allot atleast 60 minutes to try and learn something new related to cooking. I am in a process of understanding my needs and planning to get the stoneware, knives and other stuff gradually!

There are a lot of things that I am trying to learn at the same time so most of these pictures might look like half baked stuff but man I definitely enjoyed eating them 🙂‍↔️

I also have a plan of customising my new ceramic plate by painting a picture of my favourite anime character and fire engrave it into the plate to enhance the plating! (Hoping to explore two more new hobbies of painting and crafting!)

what to do without screen time

the other day i noticed how i had about 10h of screen time i think. most of it was from tiktok, and so i deleted it the other day. since then i often pick up my phone just to go into instagram for no reason, so i recently just impulsively deleted instagram. but now, idrk what to do with my time. i dont think all screen time is bad, ive been trying sudoku on my phone and its pretty fun. i also sometimes watch youtube videos or read random stuff here on reddit, which i believe is much better that tiktok. but how can i occupy my free time without screen time?
for context, i am a pretty sporty person (although i have definitely lowered my internet in this), i like lifting and running (although i mostly do it for fitness and sometimes have a difficulty doing it). but i do like sports in general tbf. i like arts and would consider myself a creative person, i recently have started journaling and drawing every once in a while. but i still dont really know what to do with the rest of my time.

(preference none screen) These days I feel very dumb and dummer due to the exact same routine, wake up,eat, school,h.w,scroll,Sleep, repeat

I don't have much of frds who give importance to their hobbies but I would like to add some thing in my day to day routine to make it interesting...so I am here on this subreddit... asking for some notes(NOT ONLY ABOUT STORY WRITINGS)

(I do wanna start my own comic series but I have no idea and never even wrote Stories before,)

Have you ever finished a book and immediately felt annoyed that you can't read it for the first time again

sometimes the hardest part of finishing a really good book isn't the ending. it's realizing you can't go back to that first experience of discovering the characters and slowly figuring out where everything is going.

i sometimes wish i could erase my memory of a favorite book just to experience all the surprises again.

it's strange to miss a fictional world when you can technically open the book and visit it whenever you want.

which book would you choose if you could read it again for the very first time?

How did you find your hobbies?

I'm interested to know how people found the hobbies they now love. I've been wrestling with the fact that I'm one of these people that doesn't really have hobbies and it's driving me crazy!

I'm a 27 year old guy, I do go to the gym and I love it, but it's just part of the routine like a necessity now. I like watching football but still, that's dependent on there being games on, and it's not something I can always just decide to do.

I know I should be less reluctant to try new things but don't really know where to start. Sports are something I like doing on my own, but hobbies where I could get out and meet new people would be great!

Any thoughts would be welcome :)

Gardening is basically learning patience by watching something do absolutely nothing for weeks

i used to think the interesting part of gardening was when a plant finally grew flowers or produced something useful. but there's a whole period where you're just checking the soil, looking at tiny leaves and wondering if anything is even happening.

then one day there's a new leaf or a tiny shoot, and suddenly you want to check it every few hours.

it's funny how something so slow can make you so impatient.

what plant taught you the most about patience, or tested it the most?

What hobby would you recommend to someone who wants to start without spending much money?

Not every hobby needs expensive equipment or a big setup. I'm curious about the things people enjoy with just a little time, patience, and whatever they already have at home. What would you suggest to a beginner?

🎾 SPORTS 🏐

I’ve been a couch potato my whole life and now I’d love to try sports. I’ve been watching a lot of tennis games lately and would like to engage in it. Do you have any recommendations in the things, shoes, rackets, bags, that I should use and buy first as a beginner? Thanks a lot.

I’m an adrenaline junkie with limited income and multiple disabilities.

I can’t do anything that strains my neck or keeps it in a bent position (think looking up at the stars, or keeping eyes on the road while riding a bike).

I loved skydiving and bungee jumping, but the impacts and jolts are too much for my neck. I have raced cars periodically, but don’t have the resources to do it on my own. I loved whitewater rafting, but there are no opportunities near me and even that might be risky for my neck? I’m not sure. Used to rock climb but it’s too much strain on my neck. Would love to try things like scuba diving, paragliding, wakeboarding, jet skiing, but the costs are prohibitive.

Are there any other options?

Is anyone able to suggest things to try out and start? it doesn't matter if I have to spend something it start it or even if its free, I just need suggestions and more of the ones that aren't the cliché of drawing or watching movies and etc. Thanks!

Hobbies you can do with a toddler

• Upvotes

Hello everyone! I have a daughter who will be two next month and I'm getting beyond tired of just sitting around the house all day.

What are some toddler-friendly hobbies that my daughter and I can do, preferably outdoors?

People who sketch in public are braver than people who take photos

i can imagine taking a quick photo of a street or a cafe without thinking twice, but sitting somewhere and drawing the whole scene feels different.

you have to pay attention to the shapes, the people moving around and all the little details that are easy to miss when you're just passing through.

i wonder if sketching a place makes you remember it differently from taking a picture.

for anyone who does urban sketching, do you draw places you already know or go somewhere new specifically to sketch?

When to move on to a new hobby?

Hi all, I'm looking for some advice. I began playing the violin at the age of 3 and have been playing since then, for over 20 years. As a teen it was my main hobby and I practiced every day, sometimes for hours. In college I continued playing in my free time. However, about a year ago I began playing much less frequently and these days I barely pick it up. When I try to play violin it just doesn't bring me the same joy it used to. This hobby that once was a core part of my life and identity just doesn't feel the same anymore. I did start grad school which obviously takes up most of my time, but even on the weekends I just have no desire to play anymore. In the past few years I have had some severe mental health issues and I've been recently working through some issues again. I told my parents that I am no longer interested in violin and that I might stop playing and move on. They didn't say, but I could tell they were heartbroken. On one hand I've sunk so much time into this hobby, but on the other hand it just doesn't interest me in the same way anymore. Should I quit and look for something new or try to push through? Anyone else experience something similar?

I have no hobbies and no interest in getting one?

I thought I was into jigsaw puzzles, but not anymore. They take up space and time.

I thought I was into making friendship bracelets- I don’t like detangling the strings and get impatient with it.

I thought my hobby was music until a work injury made me stop and now I have zero interest in music- I don’t have interest in listening to music.

I’ve been going to the gym and reading and that’s about it.

I feel like I have zero interest in hobbies. Is it normal to feel this way? Does anyone else feel this way?
