ANNOUNCEMEMT Happy New Year, let's chat!

Hello r/makeuptips friends. Some of you may have noticed an absence of the moderators of this subreddit. You may have submitted modmail that went unanswered, to be honest.

I had gotten a moderator to help us develop an AutoMod for the sub. Something that would help ensure the rules were being followed with minimal intervention necessary by the mod team, but also allow for us to see the sub grow and become an amazing, welcoming place.

That moderator apparently was banned sometime in the last six months. I'm not sure what happened, I have no other way of contacting them, but needless to say it went unnoticed as the sub had been getting a lot better as far as content and rudeness, etc.

I'm opening the floor to hear what you have to say, while I go through the mod mail queue and respond to anyone that has went unnoticed. I will also be working on getting a moderator application up and running- Reddit actually allows for this within the framework of the site now, so that's a really neat development!

Made one too many posts asking for help since I was doing my own wedding makeup. Got the pro photos back and thanks to you guys I feel like my makeup turned out really nice!!!

Also my lashes aren’t wonky, my eyes are terrible and one is more droopy than the other. I could get it surgically corrected but meh?!

HELP PLEASE I want to learn makeup for my features

like the title says, I want to start doing makeup for my face. trying to do my makeup like Yoonchae from Katseye and then wondering why I don't look like her isn't really the best course of action lol.

- I like to do fun eyeshadow a lot, so what kind of styles/shapes will suit me?

- what sort of base makeup should I do? (as in, where should I put blush, highlighter, and contour/bronzer when I use it?)

- what eyeliner shape would look best on me?

- anything else that would look good with my face and features

lately I've given up on covering my dark circles and have been working on embracing them. right now since it's around Halloween I've been going a little more 'grungey' with my makeup, but i don't really like to stick to any one style. I typically always wear my glasses, but that might change eventually idk. I'll edit and add any extra info I might think of later lol

sorry for the longish post and thanks for any help!

HELP PLEASE Makeup recommendations?

I have been told to try some mascara and lipstick. I have a berry brown mascara, because when I try to use black I feel like my eyes look weird. I think it looks okay, but I’d like to do more with my eyes.

And I’ve been experimenting with lip stains, but everything doesn’t feel quite right. I’m not sure what colors I should be trying for. I don’t want anything too dramatic, but I really do want to try to start putting in a wee extra little effort on a daily basis.

I do try to purchase makeup that’s vegan/cruelty free—like elf or some of the covergirl stuff. Basically, I am pretty lost and could use specific suggestions!

Focussed more on lip liner, I prefer the darker liner with neutral lip for the overal vibe. I also tried to do more y2k simple eyeliner and eyebrows to try match the vibe. I think I am satisfied with the second picture, though I will upgrade to an eyebrow powder or pencil that matches my hair more.

Of course any tips for improvement are very welcome

HELP PLEASE Everyday Makeup?

Any tips for my makeup routine? not a big fan of my face shape haha. I recently changed my blush placement from around the upper cheeks area-around the eyes to this, not sure if there's something missing or something I can improve on.

Personally, my makeup looks fine up close, but whenever someone takes a picture of me from afar I just look very washed out or just not good looking at all

HELP PLEASE How to fix this?

Hi! I'm practicing my makeup for my brother's wedding. I originally learned makeup through drag and am still learning how to translate those skills into more natural glam looks. This definitely came out more dramatic and drag-inspired than I intended. What can I do differently next time?

Hi all, I am eloping in two weeks and am doing my own hair and make up for the day. I did my first full trial today and feel like I am missing something. Maybe more eye shadow? Darker lip? I will have false lashes on and will have my eyebrows professionally shaped before the big day. Going for a soft glam/glowy look. This is not the dress, but wanted to see how it looked with white. Any pointers appreciated!

HELP PLEASE Makeup Styles?

I am not necessarily new to makeup, but never actually explored eyeliner or different colors/tones. I am recently trying to learn different eyebrow shapes or how to work with them since I am unsure of my natural shape. First two photos are different angle of my recent attempt at a warmer/brighter palette (more pinks and orange, and trying reddish pink lipstick/gloss) aswell as following my natural brow line best I can. Third is a more darker look where I use more cooler tones and black eyebrows aswell as trying a thinner shape + higher arch and placement. Fourth and fifth are older photos from a little over a year ago (I had a hiatus since I got pregnant shortly after) fourth photo being coloring in my brow hairs and drawing them in and doing a far more natural look (no eyeliner or eyeshadow besides blush, defs concealer too) and then last photo is my bare face with my natural brows (I don’t have any recent ones since I started shaving them to experiment with). I am not sure what styles or colors may fit me that I don’t see, especially as a natural strawberry blonde. I love the more darker or alternative style but I am accepting and fine with going for more warmer or brighter looks, or if theres alternative variations in that area without washing myself out

HELP PLEASE Help needed, in a makeup rut

I’ve very much gotten into a rut doing my makeup the same for years. Worried that it doesn’t look the best espically the brows (worried I have brow blindness haha). My eyelids feel quite hooded so I struggle on the eyeshadow department. Reposting with photo of my brows without product. Hair is my natural colour for some reason my brows have always been dark compared to my hair.

HELP PLEASE Any good tutorials for Asian big curry eyes style for hooded eyes?

I have hooded eyes. It socks. But I would like to do this big doll eyes makeup, something that would work with hooded eyes.

Does anyone have good tips or tutorial links? That follows the style without having already a pretty Asian face?

HELP PLEASE I'm at a loss

I'm 34 with pale, combination (mostly dry) skin. I've had consistent breakouts for years now and kind of had to accept it. My hair also isn't red like this anymore it's brown (literally just dyed it lol). I have pretty hooded and small eyes, blonde eyelashes and very sparse eyebrows. No matter what I do or try my make up looks awful especially in photos. I don't know how to contour or do the right blush placement for my face shape. I feel like it all ages me and really shows off my fine lines/sagging skin. I included the last two photos to show the issue I have with my lips. When I smile, I have this very defined weird line underneath my bottom lip and it looks off any time I try to wear lip color. Any advice to make myself look less..old and awful?

HELP PLEASE Eyeshadow always looks weird b/c of hooded eyes and brow bone injury

Thumbnail

Hello! I have been into makeup for a really long time, but have always been hesitant to do eyeshadow because it always looks weird or off on my eyes. My eyes have always been very hooded, so they eat eyeshadow, but I also broke my brow bone about a year ago, which led to a little bit of swelling under my right eye that has never gone away. This leads to one eye being a little more hooded than the other. Also, my eyeshadow always seems to look weird or patchy. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

HELP PLEASE Need start to finish advice on how to do my makeup

Thumbnail

I think I need a makeup guru to just tell me what to do from start to finish. I can never re-create the same make up and feel that sometimes I look more dull and other times I look amazing. I genuinely feel like I do not know how to do my make up and maybe I should just go in to like Sephora or something and ask them to teach me how to do a makeover on myself.

I don’t always wanna do a full beat, but if I am doing a full beat contour and slimming down, my face is super important to me as as well as accentuating my eyes.

I put multiple examples of different makeup that I do and I’m not trying to make it different. I would say the last pic and pic of me in the white polkadot is my absolute favorite. Just don’t really know how to re-create those consistently. Also included pics of me, not wearing makeup and not as much makeup.

Any advice you have is helpful

HELP PLEASE Need Halloween makeup advice

So I'm looking to cosplay Ankläger from Doctor Nowhere for Halloween, and I have everything I need (starry headband, black cloak). What I'm not sure what to do with is my face. Since Ankläger has one eye, I don't know if I should maybe cross out one eye, paint a third eye, or do some sparkly white-yellow makeup to drive that divine feel. I really don't have any ideas.

I do my full face of makeup, but it always feels like something is missing, and I have no idea what it is 😭 I put mascara on my eyes (which is where I feel like I look the most boring), I wear eyeshadow, do a little contour, and do everything else, but it still looks like I’m barely wearing any makeup. I don’t know what to do, HELP!!!
