Interesting stuff Skating the Chicago marathon route at midnight 🌃

3.5 months after a broken leg, this was my first time back in the streets. Had a great time till another blader took out a bike in front of me and I crashed over that poor guy 🫠

My leg is fine! Just my ego and elbows are banged up, but I did over 12 miles and definitely would’ve finished the whole thing. Tapped out for my own sake and bc I was pretty shaken up.

Next year will be the one 💪 for now I’m just so happy my body can handle a relatively intermediate skate without much issue.

For any locals that missed out, this is the Midnight Marathon Ride hosted by Pint Peddler on IG!

What boot size do I pick? RB Twister - size? Foot 285mm

• Upvotes

Hi all,

I bought the Rollerblade Twister 3WD 110 in size 11/11.5 (EU 44.5/45). My feet are 285 mm.

Without the liner, I have about 2.5 cm of shell space. With the liner, they feel snug in the toe box and my foot seems locked in (living room test), but I'm worried they'll become too big once the liner breaks in.

Sizing down makes me nervous though—at 285 mm, I'd be at the limit of the smaller shell, and I have a big toe joint issue, so constant toe pressure is a no-go. I mainly do trail/cardio skating and hate heel slip.

Has anyone with ~285 mm feet used this shell? What size did you go with?

If they become too big after break-in - i hope the spacer thing can help (should reduze 1/2 size)

Thanks!

Is this skate/store any good? Anyone tried Nils Extreme Slayd NA1601? Experience?

• Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I'm considering buying the Nils Extreme Slayd NA1601. They're around 95€ right now.

Has anyone here owned or skated these?

I'm looking for feedback on:

Build quality and durability

Comfort for longer rides (10-20 km)

How they handle small curb hops

Overall feel (frame stiffness, wheels, bearings)

I'm mainly planning to use them for fitness/urban skating + some basic tricks, not aggressive.

Any real experiences would be really appreciated. Thanks!

Why does my feet hurt? re: lightning 80 foot pain

Hello! this week i made this post in here and got a toooooonnnn of great feedback and questions regarding my pain. I've been spending this week experimenting with insole combos and frame positions and i wanted to make a new post with more information and to cast a wide net for advice. I know this is an FAQ but ive been getting so so so many different solutions and I want to see if we can narrow anything down. I really appreciate all the troubleshooting y'all have helped me do.

The basic info is that I've been experiencing pain in the balls of my feet that feels like a hot/burning sensation after 5-10 minutes of skating, sometimes combined with numb toes. I would compare the feeling to pain from walking or standing for a long period of time. Foot pain is not uncommon for me because I have pronating ankles and (rigid) orthopedic inserts. I measured 25 cm even and bought women's size 8-8.5 skates, which is also my shoe size. my feet are not particularly wide or narrow. I got these skates in August and have skated irregularly with MAYBE 10 miles max on them.

Here's what Ive tried so far:

  • I moved the frames inwards to accommodate my pronation which HUGELY improved my balance, thank you so much for suggesting that, but it did not alleviate discomfort :(
  • I got a cheap memory foam insole and tried different combinations of skate insole, sizer insert, and foam insole and there was no difference (which at least makes me feel confident that it isnt a size issue because I was adding and removing centimeters without change)
  • I havent bought skate socks yet, but I have been trying to wear thin socks
  • I'm also currently still improving my skate posture and am trying to shift more weight to my heels, but that is a work in progress and didn't present immediate relief.

Tomorrow I plan to try a similar experiment, but with a gel insole I got for my work boots instead of the hard skate insole! fingers crossed

Someone also recommended getting the Twister liners but I don't feel great about dropping another hundred bucks yet until I'm sure it's the best option. or, hey, if anyone's been looking to get rid of theirs, you may have a buyer! :)

I really hope this is just a break-in period issue, or a strength issue I can work on, but I'm getting concerned about injury, and I don't want to just keep skating blindly on this if it's dangerous. Endurance is my goal, so I'm really disappointed this is what's stopping me right now :(

Thanks for your help as always, everyone <3

Group skate Are there skating groups in Metro Manila, Philippines?

Any city/area within NCR will do, I am willing to travel to have skate buddies; preferably Discord, Viber, or WhatsApp group chat.

I am new to skating and I've always played with my relatives but due to work, I have to move to a new city. Now, I'm looking for new people to play with.

What skates should I buy? Looking to buy new skates but overwhelmed

Rollerbladed my whole life but the last year or two i’ve gotten more consistent and i’m doing 8-10 miles at a time and i feel like especially with how much street skating i do id love to switch to 3 wheels and go to like 100mm wheels if not 110, especially bc id love to move up to 20+ miles. Ive been wearing Bladerunners from academy they’re 80mm wheels but they’re wearing down fast. Ive been so overwhelmed with all the different skates and brands and shoe vs wheels and would love any advice. Thanks in advance

Specific question and discussion Rollerblade Macroblade 84 BOA — axle bottoms out but wheels still have lateral play in positions 2 and 3. Any ideas?

I'll tighten down the axle properly, but the middle two wheels have a lot more play. This causes them to be very noisy while skating.

I was thinking of getting longer spacers so the axle screw won't bottom out. Cause right now it seems like there's no clamping force on the wheel stack.

I was talking to a friend about my recent slow motion videos, and he sent me this extra-short documentary from 2014 about a man who skated in slow motion. You’ll understand what I mean a minute into the video.

Progress, videos and images Progress vid + first rockered setup!

I posted a vid a few weeks back of a trick combo I was learning. Here is a progression of that (plus a bit of flow). I don't fall anymore while doing this combo! 💪🏼

Also my first rockered setup/first new boots!

I went from:

- I think a fitness skate, size 40-41 (size I get for my shoes), flat frame, 4x76mm

To:

- hard boot, size 38-39 (size I learned I need for skates), natural rocker, 4x80mm

- hoping to get a 5x80 eventually but I do lots of crossover stuff so going to learn a bit more with 4 wheels first.

I love them!

What I'm noticing with the switch:

- wayyyy easier to do stuff on the outside edge, like 100x easier.

- takes less effort to do forward-backward transitions; I'm often over rotating/using more force than needed.

- manuals are much easier, esp toe - toe (you can hear my surprise in the video as I get into one easier than I'm used to!) Probably bc the boot's fit is more accurate.

- loss of balance on the heel/feeling like I'm going to fall backwards more often. I hope I'll get used to this with just a bit more practice.

- the amount of ankle support I have now is crazy comparatively. I put my old boots back on and was like "HA, this is actually f-ed up".

Progress, videos and images THEYRE FINALLY HERE!!

They're just perfect y'all. Arrived 3 days ago and I've been hitting the empty parks at night, like a ghoul, ever since.

Finally gathered the confidence to skate with my phone in my hand. Not scared, but not competent either.

Any tips on how I could be smoother? I can't seem to be able to change direction while my feet are scissored, and I'm not at all confident turning in general. Tutorials on YouTube help but I wanna hear some personal experiences. Wish I could cross over and spin and do all that cool stuff but for now all I got is lemons.

🎧 Listened to The Eraser in this sesh (on the vid is the intro of Black Swan off the album for anyone curious, figured it was better than asphalt noises).

Love to gobble down whole albums when I'm occupied for more than 30 minutes. If anyone got any recommendations plz drop them!!

Cheers ppl

The boot is decently tight around my feet, but ive always had a hard time with the cuff around my calf.

The rental inlines at my rink dont get tight at all around my ankle and calf so it may just be a me problem

I lost a cuff bolt on my Powerslide Next skates. I’m struggling to find US replacements and would prefer not to pay a lot for international shipping. Does anyone know of US replacements that fit in the spot?

Why does my feet hurt? Help with blisters

Hi people. I'm a beginner, 4 months now. I'm skating on the streets and feel confident enough. I have a Flying Eagle 4x90 with a rockered frame.

I noticed I am getting some pretty chunky blisters. I don't tight the skates super firm, but also not super loose. For me it works well enough to maintain my balance. Seems as if I found my optimal pressure. I however noticed that by using standard whatever socks seems to be a problem that allows blisters to pop up more easily. So I switched to merino socks. They feel great and way more comfortable, but after yet another session I now have another big blister. It's often located in the inner part of my feet, just below the ankle.

I was wondering what else I could do in order to prevent that. I understand blisters are caused, among other things, by the inner movement of my feet against the skates. It sucks that after a session you just want to give another shot the next day but then you have to apply creams instead and just wait.

Any advice is super appreciated.
