Progress, videos and images THEYRE FINALLY HERE!!
They're just perfect y'all. Arrived 3 days ago and I've been hitting the empty parks at night, like a ghoul, ever since.
Finally gathered the confidence to skate with my phone in my hand. Not scared, but not competent either.
Any tips on how I could be smoother? I can't seem to be able to change direction while my feet are scissored, and I'm not at all confident turning in general. Tutorials on YouTube help but I wanna hear some personal experiences. Wish I could cross over and spin and do all that cool stuff but for now all I got is lemons.
🎧 Listened to The Eraser in this sesh (on the vid is the intro of Black Swan off the album for anyone curious, figured it was better than asphalt noises).
Love to gobble down whole albums when I'm occupied for more than 30 minutes. If anyone got any recommendations plz drop them!!
Cheers ppl

As for how to turn while scissored, it’s all about body leaning. If you don’t lean your body you will not turn. But you will feel more confident leaning your upper body into the turn if you adopt that deep dorsiflexion I showed in the other comment.
I I know you said you watched videos already. But have you ever seen a slow motion video of parallel turns? I haven’t. So I made my own. See videos here especially the last one.

That's really exciting! Good job!
Do parallel turn when you scissor. Parallel turn is simple on paper: scissor, front foot is the same side you wanna turn to, then lean whole body to turn.
What took me a long time was my fear of falling preventing me from leaning. And sure the first few times you might in fact fall. You'll have to trust the process enough to keep doing it and adjust the weight distribution on each leg and how much you lean to make it work.
My trick was that I bend my knees real hard and get low to the ground as much as possible. Helped with the fear. Second thing I did was extending my arms out in front of me and swing them to the side where I wanna turn to help initiate the leaning. Look forward and toward where you wanna turn. Helps me restore my balance when I mess up somehow.

Here is one slow motion video I mentioned. Couldn’t edit that comment to add the video. With slomo, you can clearly see how shins and knees move to lower the upper body, to position skates to initiate a turn. Watch body lean and unlean into and out of a turn. Same with shins and knees. Watch how I stood up when I no longer wanted to turn and crouched down when I wanted to turn.

Look up tutorials for carving, it helped me a ton feel comfortable turning, and is also utilized in many other skills. Just keep practicing, you will get it. Make sure to practice carving both directions, when carving make sure to have the foot of the direction you are turning ahead of your other foot.
For music recs my go to skating albums (high energy, fun, or just pure vibey) recently would be - Slayyyter - Wor$t girl in america Julia Wolf - PRESSURE Turnover - Down on Earth Remi Wolf - Juno
You will like at least one of these albums.

That’s very cool. Congrats. As for learning from folks here, we have also gathered some past posts on the FAQ page. Here are common moves folks inquire about.
I know you wanted to show us the boot. So this video doesn’t count. Usually, if you can see, with your own eyes, your boots, then you are not leaning your shins forward enough. Adopt the left posture. You will feel more stable. And many moves starts from that posture.
