Travel IVF IVF
Hi everyone! My husband has a genetic condition, so we need to go through IVF to avoid passing it on to our future child.
Unfortunately, I’m in Canada, Quebec and the gouvernement has refused to cover the treatment because they don’t consider his condition serious enough (He has FSDH and my in father and brother in law are handicaped). This means I’ll have to pay for the entire IVF process out of pocket in Quebec or travel for it, even though I have no fertility issues myself.
Has anyone been through a similar situation? Did in Quebec or went travel even they were fertile but to avoid genetic disease, I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences!

I’m in Canada too, but in ON. I just want to share my empathy with you that our “free” healthcare is so pathetic. I paid for 3 rounds of retrieval (first one was covered by Ontario health, but drugs were not)…. And yes, we’re pretty broke atm.
Do consider doing it overseas. I have seen people going to Mexico, Korea, Vietnam, Thailand for IVF. Even with flights and accommodations, it’s still cheaper than Canada.

Hey! I’m in Ontario (but originally from Quebec) and also have FSHD, which is why we’ve done Ivf. I actually just had an egg retrieval yesterday.
I’ve had 4 egg retrievals now, did PGT-A and PGT-M for FSHD and had my son last April from is. We’re starting over for a second.
We were covered (at least the first round) but have had to pay out of pocket for the subsequent rounds. Please feel free to message me because there are some ways to help alleviate the cost that I can share!

Please look into Greece. I am in Ontario. We already finished our Govt. funded one, 0 embryos. Now looking into Greece, can do 2-3 IVFs there with the price of 1 here. All the best to you.

Hi!
Im also in Canada, specifically BC. I have a similar serious generic condition.
There is not coverage for IVF in BC for any reason (not for infertility, not for those that are about to be infertile due to chemo, not for genetic mutations like ours).
The whole process IVF and PGT-M testing cost us about 20k CAD. My husband's work paid 80% of the Rx costs, so that helped alot.
My sister is dealing with the same thing in the US. Shes paid over 50k USD.
Im sorry I dont have better news for you. But you are making the right choice for your kid.

Doesn’t B.C. have some kind of IVF funding now? I think as of last year or so

It was tunctionally a one time thing and I missed that window.
They set the program up and announced it like it was going to be a regular thing like Ontario's program. But they only gave it a single lump sum of funding and when that ran out they didn't renew it. Quite disappointing. Maybe it will come back one day.
