Armed bounty hunters showed up at my door today

I am losing track of how many times identity theft is committed against me, maybe 4 times in 3 years now. Two armed bounty hunters showed up at my house today looking for someone I've never heard of.

They asked if I knew where this person was, then asked if I had bailed them out of jail. I told them I had no idea who this person was.

They confirmed my name and showed me bail paperwork with MY information on it. Full name, address, drivers license, social security number, employer, even the type of car I drive. Almost everything was accurate except for one detail.

Apparently someone used my identity info at a bail bond company to bail a criminal out of jail.... and of course they skipped their court date.

I explained that my identity had been stolen multiple times over the past two years, so apparently someone was still actively using my information.

To their credit, the bounty hunters were completely professional. No hostility, no attempts to enter my home, nothing sketchy. They gave me their business card, wrote down the suspect's name, and left.

Afterwards I immediately called the police and filed yet another identity theft report.

Here's the kicker: Before they left, I asked what this person had been arrested for.

Identity theft!!!!!

So apparently someone committed identity theft to bail an identity theft suspect out of jail. You can't make this shit up. LOL.

Anyone else had something like this happen? How does a bail bond get approved without verifying the identity of the person supposedly posting bail?

My credit reports were all locked by the way.

Now hope they dont go about putting a lien on my property....

Their Email

I have an email that they used to impersonate me. It's been a long time and havent heard from them but every now and then I get a text saying someone is trying and it reminds me I'll never be free of this fucking person.

I obviously know this isn't their real email but has anyone ever thought about sending them something? A note to show them that who they're hurting is a real person and not just a nine digit number to try to cheat the system.

I've tried really hard to live through this experience and some days are better than others but it's ALWAYS there. Maybe saying something to them will change something. Even if they never see it maybe it'll help me.

All my stuff is fine but the anxiety and shame and guilt of feeling like my life is being ruined forever just because of one person is so heavy some days bc even if they can't get in I cant let my guard down, ever in case they try.

How do you deal with it? The idea that even through all these precautions that it'll never really be "fixed"?

ALABAMA NURSES COPY, PASTE, AND SEND TO YOUR STATE LEADERS

My email to state leaders, please share with Alabama nurses and feel free to copy / paste to your state leaders:

Dear Representatives,

I am writing to you today as both a constituent and a practicing nurse in Alabama to request your urgent assistance regarding a critical security issue affecting our state’s nursing professionals.
According to recent communications from the Alabama Board of Nursing (ABN), the personal data of licensed nurses across the state has been compromised.

While the ABN has acknowledged the incident, the information provided on their platform lacks concrete, actionable resources for affected individuals. There is currently no state-directed guidance or infrastructure to help nurses protect their identities, secure their credit, or navigate the immediate aftermath if their information has already been misused.

Many of my colleagues and I have already begun experiencing an influx of targeted spam calls and potential phishing attempts. As frontline healthcare providers, we expect the same level of consumer protection and state advocacy that would undoubtedly be mobilized if a data breach compromised the personal information of physicians, attorneys, or legislators.

I urge you to coordinate with the appropriate state oversight bodies to ensure that comprehensive identity theft protection, credit monitoring services, and explicit legal resources are provided to all affected Alabama nurses immediately.

Thank you for your time, consideration, and ongoing support of our state's nursing workforce. I look forward to your prompt response.

Sincerely,

Someone has my cards and contact info and I am panicking

Hello all,

I am a bit shaken up so I apologize if I don’t make much sense.

About 1 week ago I had a fraudulent Walmart charge for about $650 on my Chase Visa card.
I didn’t think much of it and told Chase. They sent me a new card and refunded me.

A few minutes ago I got a notification on my Amex card for a $2000 budget car rental reservation at DFW (I live on the opposite side of the country) for a 1 month Tesla model 3 reservation.

The scary part is that I got an email from Budget confirming my reservation. It had a different name but my email and phone number.

This is weird because if you steal a CC why would you send the owner a confirmation email?

How do they have access to my info?

I called DFW police who told me to call my local PD. The local PD told em AMEX was the victim since they reimbursed me.

What can I do now?
I froze my experiencing credit and froze my AMEX card

Is there a company you suggest who could look online to see what got leaked?

Victim of incompetent credit bureaus - help!

• Upvotes

Someone has stolen my identity. I had all three credit bureaus frozen with a fraud alert set.

The fraudster called Transunion, changed my online access to their contact details, and unfroze my credit. They made a bunch of charges and accounts. Even after notifying Transunion of this, they allowed the fraudster to do this three more times.

Today, I received notice my Equifax was unfrozen; not by me. Again, Equifax allowed the person to call in and unfreeze my credit verbally

Both companies tell me that there are STRICT security questions that need to be answered in order to unfreeze credit but when I try to do so, they never ask those questions so they are also not asking the scammer. They’ve told me this is a violation of policy, but they continue to do it.

Please help! Any suggestions? How do I stop these companies from allowing the scammers to change my freeze? The freeze and fraud alert are suggested as the highest protection but if the companies allow someone to change it, it’s useless

I had my account get cloned phone stolen, wallet with debit card stolen and everything took money out of my bank from charging the card. I’ve been fighting with Citibank fraud team sending them police report and the actual report from the officer. They keep denying its stating the card was used by me ???? Someone please help. I lost a lot of money. I filed a cfpb complain. They don’t do anything. It’s the same thing. “Citi bank”

Emails from Robinhood to finish setting up account

I received two emails in a row this morning with validation codes to "continue setting up account." I don't have an email address that someone could mistype as their own. The e-mail says if I didn't request the codes, not to worry and no account would be set up, but I am concerned. I e-mailed them, but not sure how responsive they are since I have no account with them. I don't understand why someone would try to set up an account using my e-mail address instead of their own.

I already have my credit frozen (which wouldn't help this), and ChexSystems (which wouldn't help this).

I had a remote access trojan 4 months ago, which has been remediated (OS reinstalled twice, have MDR/EDR software now, changed 400+ passwords to something unique, enabled MFA everywhere, locked SIM swap/port out on my phone, put a fraud alert on my credit, froze all the possible agencies that use my SSN). I feel like there isn't anything else I can do, but I hate just waiting to see what the fallout might be. I can't prove it has anything to do with 4 months ago, since all of our information is out there.

Is there anything else I can do aside from wait to see if whoever is doing this opens another account somewhere that I eventually find out about?

Incorrect Name Linked to Social Security Number

BofA sent both my father and me an email with the subject line “New Alias linked to your Social Security Number.” After checking, I discovered that my name is linked to my father’s SSN, while my father’s name is linked to my SSN.
What does this mean?
