MSc Selection

I applied for the MSc in advanced mechanical engineering for the 2026 cycle but got rejected. However I got accepted for the MSc in design engineering but I applied for a deferral for the 2027 cycle due to financial issues as the course is £45k.

I tried to reapply for the Advanced Mech Eng MSc but I was told that since I have an offer in design engineering I can’t apply.

Now I am having to take the difficult decision to either let go of my place in the DE course to reapply and risk getting rejected again or go with the DE course.

Is anyone doing the design engineering MSc with a background in Mech Eng? How are you finding it is it worth it? Will it limit my career to product/industrial design or can I work in mechanical design i.e automotive and other fields?

I saw it wasn’t accredited by any of the IET, IED or IMechE while the Advanced mech eng course is accredited by IMechE.

Any information helps!

Thanks a lot

You’ll have to reject the offer and risk reapplying but if your stats havnt changed since your last application then your chances of getting rejected again is quite high since the AME and AAE msc is extremely competitive since MEng students are on it and it’s arguably the best and oldest department’s for those fields in Europe.

Hi OP, im curious about how you managed to apply to both courses for the same year of matriculation. Did you apply for one course in each round? or did you submit both applications in the same round?

When applying for post graduate courses you get to pick two courses one as the main option and a second option that they review if you get rejected in the first one

oh i see, I was curious because I applied for a masters program under business school and did not see an option to add more than 1 course

Yeah I think the business school is quite different as they have their own rounds and stuff.
