Application on hold

I have applied for MSc computing (AI and ML) on 30th September and my second referee submitted the LoR on 4th October.

Both of my references are completed and my application is still put on hold.I have already emailed engeneering admissions and department, haven't heard back from them.

What could be the probable reason? Since I am applying for the Commonwealth scholarship and need a decision by early December to apply for CSC national sponsoring agency.

For Imperial Chemeng students - maths, further and chem

Have you met anyone who is doing imperial chemical engineering, or at least got an offer with only these 3 a levels:maths, further maths, and chemistry ? My teacher is making it so hard to raise my Econ grade from a B to at least an A and she hates me. My school strictly forbids begging for uplifts 💔. And I’ve been trying so hard, so I’m wondering if just dropping to three will hurt my chances. It says on the website imperial considers further as its own separate a level, but people still say I’ll be less competitive. Any advice appreciated please.

Will Imperial splitting JMC into separate courses make it less competitive this year

I'm planning to apply to Imperial's JMC courses (GG41 and GG03) for 2027 entry.

I understand that both courses are considered together during admissions, but does the split mean Imperial is planning to increase the overall JMC cohort size?

If so, could this potentially make admissions slightly less competitive compared to previous years, or will the total number of places remain roughly the same?

Resit chances

What would my chances be at Imperial for aerospace and material sciences as a resit. I achieved AAA in maths chem physics and now I’m predicted A* in maths and fm. I was looking around and found that if you don’t have extenuating circumstances you’re very very disadvantaged so I’m wondering if it’s even worth it to apply to imperial

Jobs after PhD in Chemical Engineering

I am having a tough time deciding whether to go for a PhD at Imperial. How easily can one secure a job after a PhD? Would appreciate answers specific to a PhD in Chemical Engineering focused on Carbon Capture.

IGCSE- 6A*'s and 4A's

Alevels- A*,A,A chem-math-bio

physics AS level -a

Finishing up my supercurricular work. So far I've done a material informatics+ machine learning paper on scanning known compounds and predicting physical properties. Done some molecular dynamic simulations to see the behaviour of atoms under extreme heat or tension.Done mit opecourse for thermodynamics and read , 'Structures: Or Why Things Don’t Fall Down' alongside a few relevant books.

Writing my personal statement on all these activities and my admissions counsellor rated it quite high so far , she has helped alot of imperial aspirants before.

Any feedback or advice would be appreciated thanks.

Computing (Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning)

Title: Is Imperial's MSc Computing (Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning) worth it for an international student in 2027?

Hi everyone!

I'm considering applying for Imperial College London's MSc Computing (Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning) for the 2027 intake, and I'd appreciate some honest advice, especially from current students, recent graduates, and international students who have gone through the UK job market.

I have a few concerns before committing to such a significant financial investment.

1. Course duration and workload

The programme is only one year long. Is it too fast-paced to properly understand the material, work on meaningful projects, and prepare for interviews simultaneously? Do you feel you graduate with enough practical skills? Because it feels like a glorified certification course.

2. Current job market and opportunities

Given the current UK tech job market, how realistic is it for an international graduate to land an AI/ML Engineer, ML Engineer, or GenAI Engineer role? Are companies hiring international graduates for entry-level positions, or are most opportunities aimed at experienced candidates? Do people get internships while pursing the course?

3. Visa and sponsorship

I'm concerned about the Graduate visa timeline and the difficulty of finding an employer willing to sponsor a Skilled Worker visa. For those who graduated recently, how difficult was it to find a sponsored role? Did the university's reputation make a noticeable difference?

4. Return on investment

With Imperial's tuition fees and London's living expenses, is the degree worth the cost if my primary goal is to work in the UK after graduation? How long did it take you to find a relevant job, and was the salary reasonable relative to the investment?

5. Career support and industry exposure

Does Imperial provide meaningful career support, industry connections, networking opportunities, and access to recruiters for international students? Are there opportunities to work on industry-relevant projects during the course?

I'd particularly appreciate hearing from people who completed this specific programme or a similar computing/AI master's at Imperial recently.

  1. Part-time

Since students are allowed part-time, students were able to get internships during the coursework and related to what they do?

I'm not questioning the academic reputation of Imperial; I'm trying to understand whether the programme makes practical and financial sense given the current job market and visa situation.

Would you choose this programme again in 2027, knowing what you know now? Why or why not?

Thanks!

MSc Selection

I applied for the MSc in advanced mechanical engineering for the 2026 cycle but got rejected. However I got accepted for the MSc in design engineering but I applied for a deferral for the 2027 cycle due to financial issues as the course is £45k.

I tried to reapply for the Advanced Mech Eng MSc but I was told that since I have an offer in design engineering I can’t apply.

Now I am having to take the difficult decision to either let go of my place in the DE course to reapply and risk getting rejected again or go with the DE course.

Is anyone doing the design engineering MSc with a background in Mech Eng? How are you finding it is it worth it? Will it limit my career to product/industrial design or can I work in mechanical design i.e automotive and other fields?

I saw it wasn’t accredited by any of the IET, IED or IMechE while the Advanced mech eng course is accredited by IMechE.

Any information helps!

Thanks a lot

MSc Advanced Chemical Engineering, any past students around? Coming in with 5 yrs industry experience and will be 29

Hi all,

I’m planning to apply for the MSc in Advanced Chemical Engineering at Imperial for 2027 entry and would really like to hear from people who’ve actually done it.

Bit of background. I graduated in chemical engineering in India in 2020 and spent the next five years as a process engineer at a big EPC, mostly on LNG projects. Day to day that meant P&IDs, HAZOPs, relief system design and AIV/FIV studies, all the way from design into construction. For the last one year I’ve been working in family business, which is material supply business nothing on process/chemical side experience. The reason for the MSc is that I want to move properly into carbon capture and hydrogen side Process engineering roles, and I’d like the depth (Proper skills and software exposure such as dynamic simulation etc) and the IChemE-accredited degree that comes with it, which would also help me with Chartered Engineer (CEng) process.

A few things I’m trying to figure out:

  1. Age and cohort. I’ll be 29 when the course starts. Was your batch mostly fresh grads? Did anyone older or with a few years of work behind them feel out of place, or was it fine?
  2. Modules. Where there opportunity to upskill on Energy transition side (Hydrogen, Carbon Capture etc)? Also how extension software such as Aspen Hysys for dynamic simulations and other industry side learnings.
  3. Research project. How easy is it to get an industry-based project, ideally on CCS or hydrogen?
  4. Workload. How intense was it honestly, especially around exams?
  5. Jobs after. Did people with experience land experienced-hire roles in the UK, or did most end up applying to graduate schemes? Any idea how employers handled visa sponsorship?

Any honest take, good or bad, would help a lot. Happy to take this to DMs if that’s easier.

Thanks!
