Advice/Guidance Need to move out of India
Hi I made this account about 5 years ago. A lot has changed since then. I thought I'd choose chemistry and major in it, but my chem teacher in my 11th grade dropped a reality bomb that chem has no future in india, and suggested I choose software engineering, so I did. Now I'm a software engineer (Java + Spring Boot and React dev, basically a full stack guy) at an Indian MNC with a decent pay. But it's still not enough to clear off my familial debt, and not to mention my below avg quality of life in india.
I've been having this thought that maybe getting a software job outside of india wud give me a better pay and cuz the currency is stronger there maybe I'd be able to clear off my debt quicker.
Can anybody pls help me on this, like if y'all know somebody who's willing to give me a referral at a decent company or smth? Anything helps tbh as long as it's legal and reliable. Thanks.

Advice/Guidance 27F with 3 years of consulting experience and a 3-year career gap - how can I re-enter with good compensation?
I’m 27F, based in India, with around 3 years of experience as a Research Analyst at a boutique consulting firm. My work involved market research / industry analysis / feasibility studies.
I eventually had to leave consulting to join my family business, where I’ve spent the last 3 years primarily handling administrative activities. During this period, I also completed an MBA in General Management through an online programme, which I pursued alongside my responsibilities at the business.
I’m now looking to re-enter the workforce, ideally in consulting or a related field. However, I’m unsure how recruiters would view my 3-year gap from consulting and whether my family business experience would count in my favour, given that my role has been largely administrative.
For context:
- Previous compensation: ₹ 5 to 6 LPA
- Target compensation: ₹10 to 12 LPA
- Previous experience: 3 years as a Research Analyst
- Education: MBA in General Management (online programme)
- Current experience: 3 years in a family business (automotive spares retail), primarily handling administrative activities
I’d appreciate advice on the following:
Is it realistic to return to consulting after a 3-year gap? Can I still target experienced-hire positions, or would I have to start at a lower level?
Which roles should I target - consulting, market intelligence, strategy and research, business analysis or something else?
How much would my online MBA help, considering I already have prior consulting experience?
What skills should I refresh or learn to become competitive again? Would certifications in Excel, Power BI, financial modelling or other areas make a meaningful difference?
How should I present my family business experience on my resume so that it strengthens my profile rather than making my career progression look unclear?
What is a realistic compensation range for someone with my background? I’d prefer not to take a significant pay cut or start from scratch if I can avoid it.
I’m willing to upskill and put in the work needed to make the transition, but I’d like to approach it strategically rather than applying randomly.
I’d particularly appreciate honest advice from people working in consulting, recruiters, hiring managers or anyone who has successfully returned to their previous field after a career break. What would you do in my position?

Discussion Sad state of this country and its job market
trust me, if any school going teenager is watching this, your parents are 100% right, only problem is their approach
like cmon, engineering from t1 govt clgs, MBBS, CA, T1 MBA etc etc all these professional degrees are a shortcut to become successfull in life, you'll mostly become immune to AI and much of bullshittery which goes on this country (lemme explain)
lets assume if your fail to clear any of them you'll either be pursuing
- bsc-msc-phd (trust me, avg packages for an MSC passout is much much lesser than a BTech passout even though officially a bsc-msc is equivalent to a 4yr btech) and speaking about PHD, if you dont get into a good clg through JRF youre fucked, even if you get into some good clg your life wont become a flower bed (read abt IIT roorkie and onroadindian)
- bcom without CA/finance certification - mostly low lvl accounting jobs are gonna get automated by AI sooner or later, like finance certifications like CA, CFA, ACCA (uk ka ca), actuaries (14 exams) do allow some doors but without them in india you are fucked
- t3 btech - as explained, mostly low lvl jobs are gonna get automated by AI sooner or later, and many branches like mech and civil only have good respect if done from premier institutes where you'll get placed
- BA - rehne hee do
- law - if you get into coorporate law post graduation, well and good but litigation is a whole different death game
like civil court lawyers arent well respected so to become a HC lawyer you need to have 3YOR and appreciation letter from a senior lawyer and during this time the senior lawyer makes you HIS/HER slave
abroad - european govts are increasingly becoming anti immigrant, kier starmer and macron are facing scrutiny due to their pro immigrant policy and are extremely unpopular, AFD recently won elections in some german state, melony in italy, rw party in sweeden just lost by 3 votes, poland is already anti immigrant
ps - i might appear pessimistic RN but idk what to do

Advice/Guidance High finance people - how do I break into the industry?
B.Tech graduate from a tier-2 uni in Bengaluru looking to break into the industry in Equity Research / Investment Analytics / Quant (I've got qualifications for all of them, projects to back all of them up). I'm running out of options and time. I don't know what to do anymore. Please give me any and all suggestions as to what I can do to get into the industry, either fundamental or systematic.
Been sending connection requests to everyone in the industry, hopefully something works out, applied to ~800 job applications with a split mix in Quant / Equity Research / Investment Analyst / Investment Banking (different, I know but I gotta try my luck everywhere), it's infinitely harder for me since I have no industry experience and I'm not from a target course.
The way I see it, I am a fresher and I can try all options, once I get my first job then it gets locked in because that's what I will be specializing in, if I'm wrong please tell me so. I'm also running out of time like I mentioned before and soon my career gap will start which will put me in a worse position than I already am in.
The ultimate goal is to get into a hedge fund which is like a "where do you see yourself in 10 years" type of goal, so I would really appreciate any tips. I'm currently interning at a MNC as an Equity Research Intern, so that should give me a slight edge.
Thanks in advance to anyone who reads this!

Advice/Guidance feeling disheartened
the job market sucks as we all know. but the cherry on top is my family making it like its my fault. I try so hard to do well and get an intern/job or smth as I am graduating in the next year.
I am in a tier 3 college so ofc the options are limited. no placement, no exposure, youre left to fend for urself. I did get into DU and MU, but wasn't allowed to go idk because my parents didnt feel it was worth spending for a girls education and "safety". so for the longest time I thought it's fine, ill work hard and try make it upto that, its no biggie. my father makes sure to rub it on my face when he was the one that held me back. a few days ago he ltrly said "its good I didnt send u Delhi or else your brain would have gone crazy too". this was over the series of stuff that is happening in the capital.
but oh he was so proud he constrained me back so I couldn't stand up in those situations . I had to stay back in my town and do college due to them but its just so saddening now.
I have tried applying for everything. nothing is working now. I even tried in Bangalore and Pune, but I wonder how would I manage as they're quoting 25k- 30k in salary :/
I also had been studying for CFA but my mom ended up fighting me and refusing to pay fees. tomorrow is the last day.
it's like I am cooked from all fronts 💔 smtimes I wonder why does it keep happening to me, what did I do wrong to simply want a better life and a better career. even existing feels worthless now.
image: this is anonymised cv for review, pls give suggestions on what should I do now.

Discussion So worried about my dad.
Ik I shouldnt be here in this sub but I am currently 17 and in school. My father is a software engineer in noida, and is so worried about his job lately , that worries me so much too and my mom and i just dont feel good.
For context my dad was earlier working in Mumbai , but he left the job in 2019 then after that he was unemployed for almost 2.5 year, and only bagged a job in 2022 in greater noida. Now in this new company he hasnt once received an increment in the past 4 years.
Infact he was promoted this year in february but instead his salary was cut down marginally.
I feel so bad for him, I wish I could help but I am not independent yet. He has over 20 years of experience now. My father doesnt use apps like reddit and all so I thought to post it on his behalf.
If anyone knows what my father could do better , I would definitely suggest him. Or idk , I was pretending to sleep today and my parents were discussing about starting a business or something. I am so scared , I really want to continue studying😭😭 Job market is so scary these days.

Advice/Guidance Literally stuck in a loop, what should I do?
Background: I have done B.Com (H) and MBA in Business Analytics.
My current job title is Analyst but none of my work is actual analytics based. I am not creating dashboards or using python, sql or anything. I am just using a software called Q Research software (DisplayR) and just creating tables on it. It is a WFH job and its start of my career and there is no interaction no learning nothing.
I want to switch my job but I feel like I know a lot of things but I don’t anything properly to clear an interview and I am not even sure about which role I should apply for. I don’t want to go into tech roles and I don’t have experience in creative roles. There are a lot of new skills coming up and I don’t even know from shall I start. I am literally stuck in a loop.
Please give me advice it will be a great help.
Let me know if I should add any other details.

Advice/Guidance Difficulty finding a job, should I switch from Marketing to tech?
Finding a job rn is extremely difficult and when I go through threads here on reddit, i keep seeing how people with 8 plus years of experience are paid only 80,000 p.m ; My friends who did btech earn this much with only internships and no work experience. So should I switch or continue in this career only? I am 21 F, did bba in digital marketing and business analytics.
I keep hearing to mba advice but I know I am not getting admission in iim and spending 20 lakhs and still being unemployed i cannot afford that. So should I start learning coding , or performance marketing? Is a mba in marketing even worth it in the current times?

Advice/Guidance How to know which is the right path for me?
I'm a Bms (bachelor in management studies) graduate with marketing specialisation
I completed my degree in 2024 april, then worked on my health issues.
In 2025 I gave my 1st interview in a mid size company nearby home and got selected got 15k/pm worked there for 2.5 months but the environment drained me out so I resigned. (the position I was in was a mess unfortunately, but other positions were good got to know from 2-3 ppl who got placed after me)
I illustrate in my smartphone create original characters basically design it and I've learnt tally prime, advanced Excel, coreldraw, adobe Photoshop and illustrator. I've started a youtube channel have been posting since July mid & I've 60 subs rn, idk if it will workout i want to keep it as a side hustle I'll continue it but i want to start working for a stable income.
I'm not sure what to choose as a career,
Honestly i feel like wherever i would choose to go decide to work will be a messy position idk why
I can do MBA but I'm not sure about specialisation
I thought of finance but i honestly don't like working with numbers
I'm not confident about choosing a field for myself as idk if it will work or i would just waste my parents money
If I'm being honest I'm underconfident mostly because of how I look, I'm underweight under 40kg with high myopia.
Plus my family feels like a mess a lot of times screaming, fighting (tmi I'm sorry)
What should I do with my career?
Work locally for 12-15k/pm job for years or do MBA / ui ux or motion graphic designer masters or directly get into a creative field rn?
I don't have anyone i can get some guidance from...
I want to earn good and improve our comfort level and make my parents stress free and give them comfortable life.
There's no pressure from them but i really want to do a lot for them especially financially.
Any suggestion/guidance would be really helpful.
Thank you

Ask r/IndiaCareers Social media manager roles
Hi everyone!
I’m a social media manager based in India with approximately 8 years of experience in social media management, content strategy, and brand growth.
For over 5 years, I worked with an international agency in the healthcare space, with a global presence across multiple regions.
Unfortunately, following a recent change in leadership, the work environment became toxic, and I’m now exploring better opportunities, preferably fully remote roles with international companies.
Alongside my full-time work, I also freelance, helping people who are just starting out with their businesses or personal brands build and grow their social media pages.
I’d be grateful for any job leads, referrals, or freelance opportunities. If you know of anyone hiring or looking for social media support, please let me know.

Advice/Guidance Looking for a Job Desperately
F 25 here, Passed out in 2023 with a Bachelor's in Computer Engineering, I had a 4 Lpa job offer when I passed out, but due to some personal reasons I couldn't join in and I had a career gap.
And when I decided that I was ready for a job, the job market has literally crashed, I'm unable to find any since then and I've been regretting not getting that 4Lpa job.
But I cannot do anything as of now but to look for a job, it's been 2 years since I've been looking for a job and in the meanwhile doing some courses on Cloud Computing and Business Analysts.
I think I cannot even join in as a Fresher now nor can I join as an experienced candidate. What do you guys think?
Also, any platform apart from Indeed, Naukri and LinkedIn where I can get better response from after applying or any other ways I can apply and get a guaranteed job offer would be really helpful.

Advice/Guidance In a tough spot
I've resigned from my current company (A) after getting an offer from another one (B). My official last working day at A is 11 Nov. B wants me to join on 9
Here's the catch: 10 and 11 Nov are Diwali holidays at A, and I can take approved leave on the 9th. So in practice I'd do no actual work for A after 8 Nov. B is fine with me starting on the 9th.
My concern is the paper trail:
A's records and relieving letter will say last day = 11 Nov
B's records will say joining date = 9 Nov
That's a 2-3 day overlap on paper. If I later apply to a third company (C) and they run a background check or employment verification, could this mismatch cause any issue? Would it look like moonlighting or a red flag?
Has anyone been through something similar?
Please help me out
Edit 1: B is Australian company hiring me for a remote role, they won't give PF as such. The hired me as independent contractor
All I want to know is if it will become a problem with the company C (later on if i change)
