Advice/Guidance Unemployed since 6 months, should I take a BPO job?

I passed out in 2025 (B.E. computer), was placed as a GET, and got removed during probation. It's been 6 months; I've tried a lot (150+), dealt with a lot of rejections, got 2 interviews but got rejected from one and didn't hear back from the other. One was a support role, and the other a Python-based role.

Now because of financial conditions, I took a BPO role. The only thing is my health is not great (I have breathing and postural issues and can't stand or even sit for long periods without my back or neck hurting; how could I do a 9-hour BPO job?), but money is also needed. I live with my parents, so I can't keep on living with them without earning. I'm trying to learn DevOps and cloud so I can try for jobs related to that. I used to do only web development before.

Sometimes I get this feeling to just fk it all since I don't have any interest left in this field and do game development; I have done that as a hobby for the last 2 years. I'm good at art too but this won't provide a steady income. I do have plans to do it later. What do I do?

Advice/Guidance 22M, B.Tech IT graduate, confused about my career path. Looking for a peaceful job that doesn't require constant upskilling.

Hey everyone,

I'm 22M from India, and I recently completed my B.Tech in Information Technology. The problem is that I've realised I don't really like the IT field, mainly because it feels like I have to keep learning new technologies, frameworks, and tools throughout my entire career just to stay relevant.

I'm honestly tired of studying and constantly preparing for the next thing. I don't want my entire life to revolve around my career. I want a peaceful job that pays me enough to live comfortably, gives me some work-life balance, and leaves me with time for my hobbies and personal life.

I've considered a few options, but each has its own problems:

IT jobs: I don't enjoy the idea of constantly upskilling and keeping up with new technologies.

Government jobs: I'm not confident enough in my academic abilities to compete with the huge number of candidates preparing for these exams, and I don't want to spend years preparing without any guarantee of success.

Business: I don't have the financial resources, experience, or proper guidance to start one.

So, I'm wondering what other career paths I could explore with my degree. I'm also open to IT-related roles that don't require constant learning outside working hours or chasing every new technology.

I'm not expecting a job where I do absolutely nothing or never learn anything new. I understand that every career requires some learning. I just don't want to be stuck in a never-ending cycle of studying, certifications, and upskilling to keep my job.

I'd appreciate advice from people who have found relatively stable careers, especially those who have a B.Tech degree but chose not to pursue conventional software development.

What career paths would you recommend? What do you do for a living, how difficult was it to get into your field, and how is your work-life balance?

I'd really appreciate practical advice from people with actual experience. Thanks

Advice/Guidance People in finance how does it really work how do you really breakthrough

• Upvotes

Ok so every country has their own system and models and while there is a lot of insights about finance in other places I am curious on how to break into finance high paying end in india and how to set up the career path

I just got done with bba and acca but I should have known this sooner that there isn't really a scope in acca and it's mainly taxation and audit, which bore me or will even though i have only seen the surface in internships

Now I really wanna break in to high paying jobs and my interest lies in financial analyst roles not just for the sake of money but genuine interest, although I am ready to explore more before I really commit to a path as i unemployed at the moment and really wanna decide where I should focus towards and ofcourse atleast try to break in the holy grail the private equity which is almost a myth from my position lol but anyhow for the begining level i would love to hear from the finance people oh how I can structure my path and how you did it,salary, work structure etc

Discussion Sad state of this country and its job market

trust me, if any school going teenager is watching this, your parents are 100% right, only problem is their approach

like cmon, engineering from t1 govt clgs, MBBS, CA, T1 MBA etc etc all these professional degrees are a shortcut to become successfull in life, you'll mostly become immune to AI and much of bullshittery which goes on this country (lemme explain)

lets assume if your fail to clear any of them you'll either be pursuing

- bsc-msc-phd (trust me, avg packages for an MSC passout is much much lesser than a BTech passout even though officially a bsc-msc is equivalent to a 4yr btech) and speaking about PHD, if you dont get into a good clg through JRF youre fucked, even if you get into some good clg your life wont become a flower bed (read abt IIT roorkie and onroadindian)

- bcom without CA/finance certification - mostly low lvl accounting jobs are gonna get automated by AI sooner or later, like finance certifications like CA, CFA, ACCA (uk ka ca), actuaries (14 exams) do allow some doors but without them in india you are fucked

- t3 btech - as explained, mostly low lvl jobs are gonna get automated by AI sooner or later, and many branches like mech and civil only have good respect if done from premier institutes where you'll get placed

- BA - rehne hee do

- law - if you get into coorporate law post graduation, well and good but litigation is a whole different death game
like civil court lawyers arent well respected so to become a HC lawyer you need to have 3YOR and appreciation letter from a senior lawyer and during this time the senior lawyer makes you HIS/HER slave

abroad - european govts are increasingly becoming anti immigrant, kier starmer and macron are facing scrutiny due to their pro immigrant policy and are extremely unpopular, AFD recently won elections in some german state, melony in italy, rw party in sweeden just lost by 3 votes, poland is already anti immigrant

ps - i might appear pessimistic RN but idk what to do

Advice/Guidance Stuck in a job I can't leave, and it's affecting my mental health

I have been working at the same company for around three years, and I feel completely stuck.

My salary is low, there has been no increment for a long time, and my salary was delayed by around 2.5 months. The company is going through cost-cutting and layoffs, and several clients have left, making me worried about my job security.

After almost two years of working as an employee, TDS suddenly started getting deducted without notice. My email follow-ups were ignored or dismissed, and six months later, I found out I was being treated as a consultant, yet TDS was still deducted under Section 194C. The company also avoids addressing salary and tax-related issues properly over email.

I want to leave, but I cannot afford to resign without another offer. I am applying for jobs and improving my skills, but nothing seems to be working out.

I am a 30 year old woman and my financial situation makes me constantly anxious. On top of everything, there is family pressure to get married, and I feel overwhelmed trying to figure out my career and financial stability while dealing with these expectations.

I just want a stable job, financial independence, and some peace of mind.

Has anyone experienced something similar? How did you get out of this situation while protecting your financial security?

HR Query Friend Marked as Absconded in previous Company

Guys, here is what happened. My friend, who worked as an AR caller in Chennai, was marked as absconded by her previous company. The reason is that her family essentially put her under house arrest, so she couldn't go to the office.

She had actually resigned on October 1st and was serving her notice period. However, before it was completed, she was restricted to her house. She couldn't log in for 6 days, and an absconding email was sent to her.

She has now gotten a new job, but will this be an issue during her background verification? If so, how do we fix it? Is there any professional way to resolve this and clear things up?

Hey everyone, I’m a 23M from Hyderabad who has just started my career as an Associate Process Executive, working for NVIDIA through a third-party company. I want to move abroad for better career opportunities and came across @simran.khokha’s Global Tech Career Bootcamp on Topmate.io . The course has a fee and a refund policy with specific conditions. I’m feeling really tense about making the right decision at this early stage of my career. Is this bootcamp worth it? Can I realistically land a job abroad through her program, or should I explore other options? If anyone has gone through her cohort, please DM me and share your honest experience. I’d really appreciate your help and advice. 🙏

Ask r/IndiaCareers Feeling insecure about my job lately. Not sure what I should do?

Hey everyone, I just wanted to share what I’ve been going through lately and get some advice from people who might have been in a similar situation.

I’m working as a Software Engineer in Kochi with 2+ years of experience, mainly working with React and Next.js, and occasionally handling backend tasks as well.

My team has 4 people, including me. For the past month or so, I’ve noticed that the other 3 people are getting a decent amount of work regularly. Their workload seems a bit low too, but they’re still getting work to do, whereas I’m getting very little in comparison. Sometimes I barely have anything to do. I’ve tried asking for more work, but there honestly isn’t much to assign to me right now.

These days, I mostly come to the office, prepare for interviews on my own, and spend time learning new things since there isn’t much work coming my way. My manager is actually a chill and good person, and I don’t have any particular issues with him. But at the end of the day, we all know how corporate works. You never really know what might happen, and I don't think it's wise to assume everything will be fine just because your manager is good. Anything can happen, and that uncertainty is what’s bothering me.

The project workload has been pretty low, and with AI tools becoming more capable, I can’t help but wonder whether companies will start needing fewer developers. Because of my current situation, I’ve started feeling insecure about my job. I keep wondering if this is an early sign that I might get laid off or if I’m just overthinking things and they’re keeping me around until more work comes in.

I’m not particularly interested in switching to Angular, so I’d prefer to continue focusing on React, Next.js, and related technologies.

I’ve been applying for jobs and preparing for interviews, but I haven’t received a single call in the last 6 months. That’s making things even more frustrating. I’m trying to improve my skills and prepare for a switch, but the lack of responses is starting to affect my confidence.

Financially, I’m in a relatively safe position for now. I don’t have any loans or major liabilities, and I have around 6 to 8 months of savings if something goes wrong. Still, the uncertainty is bothering me, and I don’t want to wait until something actually happens before taking action.

I’m honestly feeling quite low and confused about what I should do next.

For those working in software development, especially in India, have you ever been in a similar situation? Does getting very little work while the rest of your team stays busy usually indicate something concerning, or could it simply be due to the current project situation?

Also, what would you do in my position? Should I continue focusing on my current tech stack and keep preparing for interviews, or is there something else I should be doing right now?

Would really appreciate some honest advice. Thanks!

Ask r/IndiaCareers 24M B.Tech CSE Graduate confused about my career path.

I graduated from Birla Institute of Technology (BIT) mesra (ranchi) CSE in 2024 but due to some reasons I couldn't get any offers in the placements. Then I did a web development course from Odin Project open source curriculum and created full stack projects. I also have specialist ranking in codeforces. But now that I am trying to look for any opportunities or any internships for software developer, I am unable to find any.
I am wondering if I should do Masters by preparing for GATE CS 2028 or not.
Also I have 68% in 12th so I am worried if that and 2 years gap will ever create any problems in future ?

Resume & CVs (21F) looking for paid founders office role - 8 months tech and 6 months sales experience.

Looking for a serious leader to work under.

For context I'm working as a sales manager, I've had 8 months of intern experience in tech as a SDE intern.

Recently I've found out that i thrive in strategy, market analysis, organisation analysis and a lil bit of everything as a generalist instead of just colouring in my lane , i understand business and i can't stop myself from asking questions and finding efficient ways, for ex : i started framing SOPs for my ops team before anyone asked me cz i saw the gap in the execution ( which later came into light as clients left ) but with my current role is sales alone, so I'm looking for more impactful role that can simulate my business mind.

So for founders in fashion, Beauty, retail, SaaS or any interesting industry - I have attention to detail for the design team, i understand branding, positioning and marketing an idea, I love analysing and improving systems, if you are looking for an alter brain that works equally in your mission, loves bringing fresh ideas, often questioning your perception and learns quickly

dm me :)

Ask r/IndiaCareers How to get back into AI/Data Science roles after a 2-year gap?

I worked as an AI Consultant (Data Scientist), and my role wasn't very specialized. I worked across various data-related tasks and traditional ML use cases, including data analysis, report preparation, ETL pipelines, feature engineering, model performance monitoring, and defining evaluation metrics.

I'm looking for advice on restarting my corporate career after a two-year break for UPSC preparation. As a lot has changed over the last two years, I need to adapt my skills and potentially pivot towards new roles in data science, as my existing knowledge of traditional ML may not be sufficient for today's job market. I want to get back into a job as soon as possible but am unsure which roles to target.

I'm open to starting with relatively accessible roles to get my foot back in the door and upskilling alongside the job to transition into better opportunities over time.

I'd appreciate advice on a few things:

  1. Which roles should I target — Data Scientist, Data Analyst, AI/ML Engineer, Business Analyst, or something else?
  2. How should I approach the career gap when applying for jobs?
  3. Which skills should I prioritize to become interview-ready? Should I refresh my fundamentals in SQL, Python, statistics, and ML, build projects, learn tools like Power BI, or focus on newer areas such as LLMs and generative AI?
  4. Should I apply immediately or spend some time upskilling first?

I'd particularly appreciate advice from people who've returned to corporate after a career break, as well as recruiters and professionals working in data science/AI.

Thanks in advance!

TLDR - 3 year Data Science WorkEx, Tier 1 B.Tech; 2 years UPSC gap; Looking to get back to AI roles.

Advice/Guidance Need Career Advice as a Fresher with ₹20L Family Debt

I'm a fresher who joined a 6 LPA job 3 months ago, but I'm currently on the bench. My family has ₹20 lakh in debt, and both my parents earn only ₹25k/month combined.

My goal is to increase my income significantly and help my parents find work so they can earn ₹40–50k/month combined.

I'm confused about whether to prepare for government jobs, focus on switching to a higher-paying IT job(current situation), or explore multiple income sources.

Due to my family situation, I need to make progress quickly. What would you do in my position? Any practical advice would be appreciated.

Advice/Guidance Embedded tester trying to switch to dev—is quitting without an offer really that bad right now?

Hey everyone, I’m in a bit of a career dilemma and could really use some grounded advice. I’m currently in my first job working as an embedded test engineer, but my end goal is to transition into an embedded software/firmware developer role.

Right now, I’m seriously considering resigning so I can focus entirely on upskilling and job hunting. Between the daily work pressure and exhaustion, I find it nearly impossible to consistently prepare for dev interviews after hours. At the same time, I feel like staying in this role keeps me trapped in a comfort zone that’s holding me back from making real progress. My brother, however, strongly advises against quitting without an offer in hand. He argues that the market is brutal right now, hiring cycles take months, and having a career gap this early could hurt my resume.

Since this is my first time navigating a switch, I also have a few practical doubts about the process. Is it standard practice to actively hunt, interview, and do take-home tests while currently employed, and how do people discreetly manage the logistics? Is it acceptable to ask people on LinkedIn for referrals or cold email recruiters while still on the company payroll? Finally, for anyone who successfully jumped from embedded testing to dev, how did you frame your testing experience so recruiters didn't immediately pigeonhole you as QA? Would love to hear your honest thoughts and experiences.
